How convenient that Gibson let the Bushie have the final question with only 3 seconds left in the program. And no questions about the public option?
Disney/ABC....WE SEE YOU.
MoObama
I forced myself to stay up for the town hall meeting. The general question that was asked several different ways was, will I or my family members be able to control the level of medical treatment under the government plan, (such as who will decide the termination of medical treatment). The president was not really able to answer this question because he can't. Americans have never really come to grips with end of life issues. I work in the medical profession and you would be surprised how much money is spent in the ICU on patients that are dead on life-support, or patients that have receive all that medicine can offer for a terminal illness but are still treated as though they are in the first stages of the disease with much of the cost being absorbed by the hospital.
It would be a mistake to believe the government healthcare plan would not limit the degree of medical treatment and even determine if medical treatment is warranted. I will give you an example. A patient with end stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who has repeat hospital visits for respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation. As it stands at this point, the doctors will do all to revive and sustain this individual knowing his life expectancy is slim. The cost of medication, oxygen and 3-5 week stays in the hospital are enormous. Under the governmental healthcare plan, I foresee a team of doctors concluding the extraneous and repetitive treatment is not conducive to the quality of life and should be terminated. Can Americans deal with the change?
NMP
Can you control the level of treatment under a privately insured plan? No. Insurance companies and doctors decide on the termination of medical treament whether they inform the patient and family expressly or not.

Pete Williams - Justice correspondent
WASHINGTON - The FBI has arrested one of the nation's most provocative white supremacists, the host of an Internet talk show and Web site, for saying that three federal judges should be killed.
Hal Turner, 47, was arrested Wednesday at his home in North Bergen, N.J., and accused of posting statements on his Web site calling for the murder of three federal appeals court judges in Chicago who recently ruled on a gun rights case.
"Let me be the first to say this plainly: these Judges deserve to be killed." He included their pictures, phone numbers, work address and room numbers along with a photo of the courthouse in which they work and a map of its location, the FBI says.
Way to go, Hal.

I hope they put him in general population with notorious drug lords.

yeah a night in Rikers, a night in Graterford and a night in Cook county the Fedds will know all there is to know about these hate organizations.
Charlie Gibson STILL sucks. I'm surprised Obama didn't learn his lesson from the debate.
happycozy
That's what I was thinking, too. I could only watch fifteen minutes of it because Gibson was pissing me off. Did they ever have any patients ask questions? From what I saw it was only healthcare professionals grilling the prez.
I know, what is the purpose of having 164 people there? Charlie keeps asking all the questions himself and not letting PBO answer.

Pastor Hattfield the fade went out of style in the 90s.

What we need to solve our healthcare problem:
1. Single payer system 2. Control cost with ability to negotiate costs with hospitals and pharma companies 3. Promote evidence based medicine- if its not evidence based then its very expensive and you must pay out of pocket if you want it 4. Reform tort system so medical malpractice premiums arent sky high 5. Make doctors salaried 6. Limit the tuitions at medical schools ie use the state school systems as models
whiterosebuddy
Great, except three. Evidence based is wonderful, when there is evidence, however evidence has to be collected so if ppl can only use it by paying out of pocket, the likelihood of obtaining evidence is slim.
Trumystique
Actually one could use the National Institute of Health ( NIH) for comparative effectiveness research and in the absence of evidence-based research you could gather expert panels that would come up with consensus guidelines. Further, the FDA could be instructed to add an additional phase of research before a new drug or device is allowed on to the market. Its absolutely possible to do this where there is political will. The only people who would be against this are special interests that profit from completely non-rational medical practices.

Umm it still weak and still trying to scare us away from the public option.
rikyrah
They are doing more questions for The President on Nightline right now.
It's like 2 minutes of him answering ONE question and then 5 minutes of commercials. What a crock.
Trumystique
My eyes!!! I am blind. Whats up with the Gatorade shirt! Good question though
spirit_55z
LOL!
Trumystique
This Town hall is totally weak. I am not impressed. Can we actually get some people who know what they are talking about asking questions??? Havent these questions been asked a million times?
How many times can the Pres say "If you like your healthcare you can keep it". I changed my mind. I guess this is good for the uninformed who are afraid of "socialism", Uncle Sam in the room and "public options". How come no one has asked if seniors feel if Uncle Sam is preventing them from getting good health care. Argghhh I really get ornery about these health care discussions cause too often people are acting knee jerk and not from facts.
That was a waste of my time. The REAL townhalls he does are MUCH better.
spirit_55z
Agree. It's blatantly clear these folks are regurgitating the same tired ass lines. That means you Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson. ABC just wanted some attention because NBC got to report from the White House.
At least President Obama gets to speak about healthcare to the American people. ARGGGGH!! I hate the MSM talking heads and so-called journalist
You know, if they didn't take so many COMMERICAL BREAKS they could have probably fit the whole thing in the hour. Obama answers ONE question and it's time for another commercial break. SMH
Did Charlie Gibson just tell Obama he shouldn't insure the uninsured because then more people will be going to the doctor? WTF? This program might as well be on FAUX. And where the hell are the REGULAR people. The PRESIDENT of the AMA? Seriously? Ugh.
MoObama
Who chose this audience the Media or the President? The doctors were asking loaded questions that would discourage having a public option.
spirit_55z
Charlie is a PRICK! the people aren't upset about gubment insurance. What "poeple Charlie?
Gotta pack for my DC trip. Anyone live-blogging the healthcare thing on ABC. I'm gonna bring my laptop and try to get some intrneting done.
spirit_55z
Mayo Clinic is the best, and if any of my family ever needed serious medical treatment, that's where I'd encourage them to get treatment. Been there and it's top notch!
And are they only going to let doctors ask questions? Even if they do, they are still better than the MSM questions.
Trumystique
I am a doctor and I am sick of doctors asking questions. Too many of these docs are sold out AMA shills.
Look at the single payer systems in other countries. Government isnt in the room saying you cant prescribe this drug. The system gives limits and if people want something they pay for it or take a trip to go where they can get what they want!!!
spirit_55z
I'm a retired nurse, and I know how some of these shills operate.
No one has asked about single payer option yet.
Bottom line. It's all about the benjamins.
Trumystique
I wish some one from the NMA would stand up. Cause unlike the AMA the NMA supports a single payer option. I am from Massachusetts and at first I was all excited about the plan for universal insurance. It was an experiment but it failed cause it doesnt address the underlying issues of access and cost. The insurance companies are still making money hand over fist providing care that saves them money but doesnt make anybody healthier. The health insurance model is a failure. Health is not like getting a car- and we shouldnt use the same crazy ass model that we use when you get in a fenderbender.

Urban Gardeners here is an organization that promotes the raising of chickens for food and eggs in the cities. They work closely w/ senior citizen organizations and school children. This strikes me as a brillant idea for synergy. http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=...

Please, check the lead level content of soil in urban (and suburban) farming! It only cost $20-30 for the test.
(I know you are talking about chickens, but I thought this info was relevant...)

It reminds me of Mao's great leap forward.

During the Great Leap Forward everyone was carted out of the cities to work in the fields. I think you are looking for something else.

The Ensign affair - Fox News had Hampton’s letter earlier than it said
Fox News received Doug Hampton’s letter about Sen. John Ensign’s adulterous affair three days earlier than the network reported, according to information obtained exclusively by the Las Vegas Sun.
Fox said it didn’t receive the letter until June 15, when it arrived as an attachment to an e-mail. But FedEx tracking of a “priority envelope,” which a reliable source said contained the hard copy, shows it was delivered on the morning of June 12.
That would mean the national news organization had additional time to investigate and report Ensign’s affair before the senator’s own admission of the relationship with Hampton’s wife, who worked for the senator’s leadership political action committees. Full Story: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/jun/24/fox...
If Obama didn't have such an "exotic" wife, Sanford would have never been tempted to try another flavor.
spirit_55z
Give it a minute., isonoprize...... it wll be PBO's fault real soon.
Anything to try and distract from the healthcare bill.
isonprize
The affair and the gossip around it is just silly fluff stuff, but it's not the real issue.
The real issue is that he left SC without turning the government over to his 2nd in command. The real investigation is who was in charge? If no one knew where he was, who was running the shop?
Just like the NJ gov who resigned after saying he was gay, I could care less who Sanford is sleeping with. In Sanford's case, I only care if we paid for his Argentinian hookup, just like I cared that NJ gov put his boyfriend on the payroll.
The hypocrisy of 'playing marriage' for the public while doing all of this is just lame. Hateful and lame.
Sigh...child psychologists will have jobs for the next few years...sigh...
spirit_55z
Keep saying that!
What I care about is the children SC schools getting that stimulus money.... Ya know Ty'Sheoma Bethea.
So yes, I too would like to know if that mofo Sanford use his states tax dollars to go on his fuckfests?
This just popped up. Fading of the Dollar's Dominance Other Nations See Opening to Boost Their Currencies
I know we are in trouble. President Bush sold the country down the drain to loot and rob it for the very wealthy and large corporations by having extremely lax regulatory enforcements. It is so bad we have had to borrow over 2trillion dollars to stabilize the financial system alone.
The very wealthy recognize that this amount of borrowing and proposals for the future mean that the value of their wealth is being diminished. It is why there is all the fuss about inflation.
The problem is you can get around inflation by holding assets like oil, gold, wheat and rare industrial metals. In a disaster they become hard to manage and move. That is why people like banks and currency.
For banks and currencies to be effective people have to believe that they will receive their money when they want it. If you can find another country right now where you believe that can happen let me know. In ten years let me know.
So the real issue is to keep the wealthy from losing their minds by trying to transfer their wealth into the assets mentioned earlier. Again we control the means. You really going to buy a oil contract in Russia or even England and expect to take delivery if you end up jacking up the price of oil beyond what their economy can tolerate . It is why you see the PRC buying up the companies or making deals in Africa and Asia w/ the national company. But outside of the elites hiding the money w/ them(and it is in dollars) do you see the currency being convertible even in the nex ten years?
So start ignoring this talk unless you see another country having a rule of law like ours.
I have often suspected that the Bush administration favored a soft dollar in order to boost exports.

The President will be on ABC tonight from 10 - 11 pm EST, answering questions about Healthcare from the American people.
Yeah right. Likely more prearranged softballs and sad stories that fit the agenda of government controlled healthcare. America should be able to offer reasonable health care solutions to all its citizens......lets talk about what's reasonable. No one has yet, so I will be paying attention tonight to see if this is the start of something good.
texascowgirl
I guess you preffer insurance controlled healthcare. If the private sector had a way to offer affordable healthcare to all of it's citizens it would have done so by now. They've had 30 years to come up with an answer. Their time is up.
