did anyone hear the response that barack made about afr. amer. unemployment rate? his once again non response shows me that he has no intention of doing any thing to help our community it is the over all community which never benefits ours until he addresses the real issues in our community which is unemployment redlining sub-prime lending and education we will never get out of this rut

I guess no one has a response to the question about afr amer unemployment this president has no intention of helping our community it's always my programs will help everybodied yeah right just like bushes, clinton and the rest he's only helping himself will not vote for him again yes we got an afr amer president so we no now noone is going to help our community and this little self responsibility thing only goes so far if you are unemployed not everyone that don't have a job are not not qualified

I also had a situation where I had a medical issue recently. It cost me $5000 out of pocket, even with the most comprehensive plan I know of out there, and my surgery wasn't super expensive as they go. Healthcare reform is a tough and complicated issue but we must continue to seek answers for our country.

I also had a major surgery and could have found myself in rough shape. As it was, I spent $5,000 of my own money even though I had the best healthcare coverage I know of today. Reform is not an easy task for the government or any of us but something we must all focus on today.

I think Jill's ideas are noble! By giving a Congressional style health care to eyeryone will not only illustrate a turning point in America's health care system, but also guarantee its access to anyone. Approximately forty million American's don't have health care insurance. May God forbid anything bad happens to someone, the health institutions cannot afford to treat them for free. So if anything is going to be accepted, I think Congress should work with PBO to find a permanent solution that will fix the broken health care system.

Kudos for the great job on the live appearance. It irked me when he cut in over you since you were nice enough to let him finish all his points.

As we just had a work-wide 'staff' meeting regarding changes in our health care policy last week, I can tell you NOT many were satisfied AT ALL with what we have. Our HR director was saying 'Blue Cross' - 'Blue Shield' - and one other, United Healthcare? wouldn't even "bid" on our coverage. I know I'm not. The deductible alone is $750 (single = emp. coverage) and - at least, $1500 for family. I can't remember; I only cover myself on my work policy.

That sounds a little steep. I pay $900 per month family, $375 single for all my employees, decent deductibles. BCBS is pretty decent about how they handle catastrophic stuff, but they really try to stick to the contracts tightly.

Okay - I asked. My deductible is $750 as employee only; family is $1500. I didn't know that until our staff meeting and thought THAT was incredibly steep. I'd no reason to pay attention prior to that, and still don't.

Exactly -- I don't believe that statistic. Most people I know (including me) have serious concerns about their health insurance. Isn't everyone terrified by the financial impact one could take in a serious health incident?

I thought I had pretty good health insurance coverage until I got seriously ill 5 years ago. I needed medication that cost $500/ injection. I needed one injection for 6 months prior having life saving surgery.

My insurance would not coverage the injection. My doctor got samples from the drug companies and kept them in her office. She'd give me the injection during my appointments. My doctor literally saved my life.

My husband and I aren't rich by any means, but we do well. Between the deductable and paying for drugs, we could have been on the brink of some serious financial shit.

Thanks, Jill. I've seen it on both ends. The patients having to make tough choices, especially the elderly. Some of them take upwards of 4-8 different medications per day.

It doesn't even have to be a serious health incident. It could be something minor or that's not actually life threatening at all and you wind up owing a couple of thousand that you THOUGHT your insurance would cover. The costs of medical care for the most basic stuff is ridiculous.

I know that's right! A perfect example: basic routine blood tests.

I'm regularly complaining about the President not being more pro-active in dealing with the press--to control the news cycel--but if I had to deal with these idiots, I probably wouldn't either.

The government has proven continuously for 200+ years that it can take big checks and turn them into small checks with little to show for it. I like Jill's idea of Congressional style health care being available for everyone. But I want a coverage mandate for everyone too.....
