Ailing Banks Caught Between Regulators' Competing Visions
This is why Citigroup needs to be shut down. We really do not want regulators running business' except for the purposes of keeping them from endangering the public. When they are capable of creating this much damage you can not allow the same mangement to keep having a chance to wreck the train again. You get a whole new crew. W/ financial institutions that means a FDIC liquidation, a sale of of the assets, a takeover of the bad shit by the taxpayer and the deposits go to other institutions. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar...

This headline says it all "Compensation Is the Symptom, Not the Problem" Basically the argument is that in dealing w/ corporations, we the public rely on the board of directors to keep the company honest. If they do not we get what we have seen the last 35 years. Grand theft by executive order.
...investigators found a note in the car James von Brunn drove to the Holocaust Museum, which said:
"You want my weapons -- this is how you'll get them. The Holocaust is a lie. Obama was created by Jews. Obama does what his Jew owners tell him to do. Jews captured America's money. Jews control the mass media."
I guess all those people who said the attack on the museum was Obama's fault were right... but not in the way they thought.
I'm not a hell kind of person. Catholics aren't big on hell; in fact, we don't believe in hell. (And don't let someone bullshit ya about that; it's not part of the theology).
Now - I'm looking for a place to put Mr. Scott Roeder and specifically - Mr. James von Brunn who I just learned Mr. Stephen T. Johns opened the door for Mr. von Brunn and von Brunn shot Mr. Johns in the chest - full out. Mr. Johns saw an 88 year-old man and von Brunn - a black man who needed killing.
That fucker is lucky I'm not working in THAT I.CU. Might be tempted to stumble over the respirator cord.

Wow, things have changed alot then because I remember those nuns and priests teaching us all about going to hell!
I read about Stephen Johns opening the door for an old man because he thought Brunn needed help. Stephen Johns didn't have time to react. Mercy!

Dems Vow To Make GOP Rep Pay For Questioning U.S. Credibility The other day, GOP Rep Mark Kirk of Illinois seemed to say that he told China not to trust the United States. Kirk said that he’d told a meeting of Chinese leaders “that the budget numbers that the U.S. government had put forward should not be believed.”
Despite this apparent undermining of the credibility of the U.S. government to foreign leaders, the remark has gotten almost no attention in Washington, much to the frustration of Dems.
But now Democrats are signaling that they’re going to use Kirk’s flub against him in the race for Barack Obama’s old Senate seat, should Kirk run, as seems possible. The leading Dem candidate for the seat, State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, has now uncorked a scathing statement hitting Kirk over the China gaffe, in previewing a possible 2010 Senate matchup:
“In the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, Mark Kirk is essentially telling China, which holds more U.S. debt than any nation on earth, not to trust the American government, and by extension, the American people. This puts the full faith and credit of the United States at risk and threatens to permanently wreak havoc on the credit markets that are essential to our recovery and our economic future.
Rep.Kirk is a Lt Commander in the naval reserve.President Obama is his CinC.For him to undermine his commander that is a court martial offense.Jus sayin.

Supreme Court Nominations Well-Wishers Can Virtually Sign Sotomayor’s Cast
Those wanting to send good wishes to Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, can now take a virtual sharpie and pen a few words on her cast.
Organizing for America, a spin-off of Obama's presidential campaign, has launched a cast-signing page and according to the Kansas City Star's Stargazing blog, invited some 1.3 million Twitter followers to send positive greetings to the 2nd Circuit Judge.
The page recounts that Sotomayor fractured her ankle Monday after stumbling at New York's LaGuardia Airport.
"Despite the injury, she attended a meeting at the White House and met with senators on Capitol Hill. She didn't skip a beat," the DNC's site notes.
The virtual cast is displayed in the form of a word cloud in which the most popular terms are larger than the rest.
Supporters are invited to fill out an online form. There's no word on what will happen to ill-wishes. But well wishes will be displayed on her virtual cast for everyone to see.
Rihanna Subpoenaed to Testify in Chris Brown Case By Ken Lee
Los Angeles prosecutors have subpoenaed Rihanna to appear in court to testify in the assault case against Chris Brown, her lawyer tells PEOPLE.
The "Umbrella" singer, 21, was served in person Tuesday in Los Angeles with the subpoena for the June 22 hearing in Superior Court, her lawyer Donald Etra confirms.
Brown, 20, has pleaded not guilty to two felony counts following his alleged Feb. 8 assault on Rihanna.
"Rihanna was served at my office by L.A. DA investigators," Etra says. "If the preliminary hearing indeed goes forward, she is now legally required to be there, she will be there, and will answer all questions truthfully."
The purpose of the hearing is to determine if there's enough evidence to bind Brown over to trial. Rihanna will also be subject to cross-examination by Brown's attorney Mark Geragos. The case could end any time with a plea deal, making the hearing unnecessary.
"Rihanna's testimony can make or break the case," says L.A. criminal defense attorney Jeffery Rubenstein, who's not involved with the case. "Her willingness to testify and be truthful about what happened is a step closer to convicting Brown. On the other hand, if prosecutors fail to present a case, Geragos can seek to dismiss or reduce the charges on the spot."
I something that she has enough sense to testify against him. If she doesn't she'll forever be a mark.

Bill Would Give FDA Broad Powers to Regulate Tobacco By Lyndsey Layton Washington Post Staff Writer Thursday, June 11, 2009; 3:24 PM
The Senate approved landmark legislation today that would give the government sweeping new power to oversee tobacco, a centuries-old product used by 20 percent of Americans yet largely unregulated in this country.
The bipartisan measure, approved by a margin of 79 to 17, largely mirrors a measure passed by the House last month. The House will now review the Senate's version before a bill is sent to President Obama, a smoker who has struggled to quit and who has said he is eager to sign the bill into law. It comes 50 years after the surgeon general first warned of the health effects of tobacco.
Congress has been trying for more than a decade to regulate tobacco, coming close several times but faltering in the face of opposition from the tobacco lobby, the White House or procedural hang-ups. But in the years that the debate has raged, changing social attitudes toward tobacco helped transform the idea of regulation from controversial to common sense.
The first thing the FDA should do is declare tobacco a known carcinogen and remove it from the market. Tobacco farmers should not be compensated for their loses, nor should tobacco companies. And Duke University should give their endowment to charity.
