SB, I'm not disagreeing with you, but Cornel, Mike Dyson and Tavis all act like Obama owes them something when the fact is, he doens't owe them jack.

If those brothas were in and about the Black Community they profess to love so much, their haterade of the POTUS would be legit and warranted, because there has been no bigger critic of the POTUS's stance (or lack thereof) than ME.

I screamed holy hell about his appointments of Geithner to Treasury; keeping that warmonger Gates as DefSec, and Hillary's Hankie Head getting appointed to the State Department. He won't stand for very much - Glen Ford and Bruce Dixon have been singing this tune for six years and we haven't bothered to listen, but if the economy gets worse, I can guarantee the O-Aid is starting to wear off and everybody is sobering up.

If Charles Ogletree was doing the talking, I'd have pause. But it's coming from Cornel, Mike Dyson and Tavis - all who are only trying to get their hustle on and call it "Love for the Black Community" under the aegis of "Community Activism and Service". They hustle books that cost $25.00 at your local Barnes & Noble. They take payola from corporations like Wal-Mart and Wells Fargo, who, BTW, actively gave home mortagage to Black Folk with the intent of bankrupting them and foreclosing on their homes. When Tavis, Mike and Cornel justify taking checks from those who are doing the most damage to Black Communities on an economic scale, they would be totally justified in their criticism of the POTUS. But their hands are dirty and they should not be considered as giving legit critiques.

I hear you on the POTUS's adherence to an insensitive corporate agenda and if he insists on adherence, his ego is going to take a major hit when he's shown the door of the White House in 2013, as oppposed to settling in for a second term.

Always good to hear from you, SB.

Hearing some of y’all rant and rave about the gratuitous “haterade” on our beloved President is both amusing and disconcerting. It is as if y’all have been oblivious to the feel good fiction spoon fed to a naïve public in the course of the last campaign. Disappearing Acts is not only Terri McMillan’s best novel; it could also be the title of any serious examination of the President’s record on issues important to progressives of any stripe, especially the working class and people of color.

There are many things I could say: indefinite detention, escalation of the Afghan War, dropping cluster bombs on Afghan civilians, preventing the victims of Bush-Cheney torture from suing for redress, failing to prosecute CIA torture and those who ordered it, but I’ll just stick to the economy.

Granted, it ain’t been but four months, and he will be president for more than three and half more years, but our Commander-In-Chief has been gettin’ busy and doing the nasty. Not with some empty headed ho, but with the Gucci wearing corporate whores that comprise the Administration’s high-ranking financial officials and their coterie of advisors.

This Administration has thrown away trillions down a bottomless rat hole to bail out the white investor class and the financial institutions that they control. These are the people whose speculative greed and racist indifference destroyed our economy. Ain’t y’all been paying attention? The civil rights establishment that you gleefully malign has filed landmark class action lawsuits against the sub-prime lending industry that deliberately targeted Negroes, Latinos and anybody else deemed ignorant enough to believe that deceptively marketed exploding adjustable rate mortgages were created to help the colored working class achieve the American Dream of homeownership. What they were really meant to do is generate windfall profits for the white investor class that they could pass down generation after generation.

Our Commander-In-Chief has not directed his Justice Department to join the NAACP in the class actions against some of his more generous campaign contributors. This goes to the heart of the reparations argument being advanced by the Black Intelligencia—people like Cornel West and Michael Eric Dyson. Black Harvard Law Professor Charles Ogletree, who ain’t got nothin’ but love for Barack, has written extensively and persuasively on this topic. The President told us over a year ago in the You Tube debate that he opposed reparations.

Honest white progressives like Krugman and Stiglitz and Warren have been eloquent about what this Administration is not doing to hold crooked speculators accountable for their unconscionably racist greed. Real reform of the banking system is not in the works.

CPL, rikyrah, I love y’all with all my heart and soul, but attacking Cornel for some insignificant off handed comment is totally off base and changes the debate to who is hatin’ on Obama instead of what he is surreptitiously doing policy wise that the black community should hate. We should be mindful of something that Maya Angelou said. When people tell you who they are, believe them. The President’s adherence to an insensitive white corporate agenda will not change.

I find it so strange that all these years these Black men and Women have been working towards and coming together for the promoting of Black leadership; yet when we finally get it they seem to become embittered because maybe they thought that they would be the chosen one. I have never seen so many Black men who are publicly rolling out on the subject of President Obama and what that see as his shortcomings. If he is not doing and saying what they want him to do and say to uplift their personal egos, then he is doing nothing at all for Black folk. They know that his man is the President of America not the Civil Rights leader of the Black community. What do they want of him? I think that the President is wise enough to know that he will never satisfy them unless he was to make them all heads of departments in the government so that they could see themselves as idols for the work done in the community. It's such a shame. The thing they thought they wanted so badly is not what they wanted at all.

I would like to know what they think getting into bed with the self serving Tavis Smiley is going to accomplish. The man has always been a snake. A lot of it seems to me like classic attention seeking to me. As much as Dr. West and Dr. Dyson make salient points there are many times I often feel as though they are speaking to hear the sound of their own voices.

CPL,

I hear ya. I'm really hear you. When I read that over at The Black Snob, I was like, you gotta be shytting me. When will it stop?

I don't remotely understand what the President's staff was thinking about DOMA. They threw away a 'gimme'. I told you, it's the ' gimmes' that just don't make any sense to me. It's preposterous.

I tell you, Ed Schultz is the voice of sanity and righteous anger when it comes to healthcare and he's not backing down, and I'm glad he's not backing down.

I was nodding in agreement the entire post, CPL. I'm definitely feeling you.

The Soul Patrol needs to pick an issue or two, present concrete solutions to those problems that they then can go to the White House and argue about, or they need to sit down. We all know the problems in the Black community; stand up with some solutions.

There is a long and glorious history of debate among the black intelligentsia. This has always occurred and when everyone is in agreement, something went wrong. I have to say this type of debate in today’s "black intelligentsia" is low brow on both sides. The idea the some of the “brightest” on both sides are debating "IF the President of the United States should be criticized, what he should be criticized for"…. doesn't make sense to me..at all.

We have had Marcus Garvey v. Dubois. Malcolm v. King, Booker T. Washington v. DuBois, Baldwin v. Harold Wright Cruse, Baldwin v. Baraka ect… seriously debate the direction of the black under, middle and upper classes. We now have Melissa calling people Soul Patrol and Dyson whining about not being invited to the White House. Let’s say the Dysons, Tavis’ and West’s care about themselves more than the masses of black people, on the other side we can say the some of the black intelligentsia critics of these men care more about carrying water for Obama than masses of black folks.

Marcus Garvey and W.EB Dubois did have some name calling because on some level that despised each other, but I don’t think they didn’t care deeply for the struggle and liberation of black folks. We now have people with questionable motives…..questioning others with questionable motives. Huh?

Two things happened to invalid both sides. Stomping for politicians instead of policy, somewhat undermines ones creditability. I could be wrong (people will let me know....lol), but MLK never directly endorsed anyone and that allowed him to stand on the moral and political high ground to challenge everyone. The other is ego….Really, how many people who endorsed him can honestly say when he’s screwing up? Why?...because they will be accused of hating or being upset Obama did not cater to them. What bothers me is the “new thing” of addressing the people rather than the criticisms.

You mad, huh? - Saaphyri

LOL, I swear that's the first thing I thought of when I read this! We are :here:

But what's amazing to me is the lack of press that the act of terrorism that happened this past is getting. I mean, I'm not hearing a THING from Department of Homeland Security, I'm not hearing a THING from Congress, I'm hearing little buzzwords from the press.....what's going on?! Is Sarah Palin whine about Letterman, Jon and Kate Plus (soon to be Minus) Eight, and Paris Hilton and Usher break-ups more newsworthy? Like, for real? Are in the same country I think we're in? This is America .... right?

Ok...tell us how you really feel?! HAHAHA! Yeah Obama is looking more and more like a regular politician and less like a Messiah every day now. I wonder if enough people are going to get fed up and push back. It has to be done NOW but SMARTLY.
