I will not have a temper tantrum nor stomp across the floor. I will not pout, scream or shout or kick against the door. I will not throw my food around nor pick upon another. I’ll always try to be real good because I am the mother.

here's the thing though. The GOP knows that if Powell did leave the Repub party, that would be worse than Spector leaving. So keep talking Cheney & Rush, I believe Powell's wife is "Dem-leaning" already. I think the reason why Powell continues to stay in the GOP, is because he is a loyal soldier.
Anyway, as for Cheney, lib may have problems with Powell vis a vis Iraq War & etc, Gen Powell's service and achievement is exemplary (someone posted this over at Huff Post):
Colin Powell...

Mr. Cheney, you should have chosen the guy who has devoted his life to public service, not the self absorbed guy with the microphone.
“Sometimes in the black community those stereotypes define us. Sometimes we start internalising something that is not even true,” Michelle Obama said. “So maybe [our family] can be a reminder that all you need to do is look around your own community and you will see this same family in churches and in schools.” Brand Obama defines itself. When reading ignore the title. the times of London and the WSJ have this habit of the marketers titling the piece w/ the authors having their say. the authors at least know how to do their job.
Supreme Court Prospect Has Unlikely Ally Friendship With Thomas May Complicate Chances for Left-Leaning Georgia Judge
By Krissah Thompson Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, May 10, 2009
One day in the early 1990s, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas telephoned Leah Ward Sears to introduce himself. She was a rising star in Georgia's legal community, a relatively liberal black woman on the state's conservative Supreme Court. Thomas had read about political attacks against Sears and called to say he didn't like it.
I know the Lawd says don't have no hate in your heart and two wrongs don't make a right, but some Democratic party operative needs to get these guys. Prez Obama can't do it, because he has to be above it, but Rahm & Ax, Craville & Begala... step up now!!!
Spector is such a putz. He is such a KAPO he is running an ad touting his support and name recognizition for Hodgkins disease; please donate. The problem is the money goes directly to his campaign fund. This undermensch piece of dreck knows he is going out of the Senate this year. I believe he is doing this because he can use the money in a campaign fund for himself when out of office. Even if I am wrong here, to tout a disease but keep the money for yourself is that a guy the Democrats want? http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22235...

I don't know where I read it, but did anyone see on CNN that Cheney told Jon King that (not surprisingly) he sides with Rush when it comes to the direction of the party.

It's the new thread. What an asshat. He needs to just move out of the country. 'Cause if he stays, I think he should be in jail...

errr.......well....technically its a history making moment.
Ida Ljungqvist is First African Playmate Ever Ida Ljungqvist, last year's March Playmate, has been named the 2009 Playmate of the Year by Hugh Hefner and Playboy magazine. The 27-year-old model makes history as Playboy's 50th Playmate of the Year and as the first African to ever be given the title (she was born in Tanzania). http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/171295...

What is disturbing to me about this piece is the White blond photo at the top of the article. There's no photo of Ida anywhere.
I wanted to see the FIRST AFRICAN PLAYMATE EVER!
Just a bunch of links leading to nowhere land.
This is a blatant attempt to erase the BLACK WOMAN, make her invisible.
Texas charging rape victims for rape kits is just stupid. Do we charge people who have been robbed for the effort to collect evidence of the crime??? Hell now, well a rape kit is collecting evidence to solve a crime, why the hell would you charge the victim for that?
I can't stand Texas ya'll. I live in Dallas right now, and my youngest sister will be going to college here, but all my other family are back in New Orleans. I'm stelling ya, I don't know if I can stand it anymore. I'm gonna either move elsewhere (ideas would be good. what's a good place to live if you are a single african american woman, not counting Atlanta). I just haven't decided when. Not now. My sister is graduating from high school this June, and I'm thinking that I'm gonna give her at least til her sophomore year, then I'm gonna move. By then at least she will have 2 years to aclimate herself to living on campus and away from home.

Obama Delivers the Zingers at Journalists' Dinner By Richard Leiby Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, May 10, 2009
When President Obama made his debut as the nation's Stand-Up-in-Chief last night -- the star attraction at the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner -- no one in his administration was safe from his one-liners. Not Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton: "The minute she got back from Mexico, she pulled me into a hug and said I should go down there myself." Not Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel: "This is a tough holiday for Rahm. He's not used to saying the word 'day' after 'mother.' " Not even, it turned out, himself: "During the second 100 days, we will design, build and open a library dedicated to my first 100 days."
And: "My next 100 days will be so successful, I will complete them in 72 days. And on the 73rd day, I will rest."
The routine brought mostly guffaws from the 2,500 journalists, politicians and celebrities jammed into the Washington Hilton ballroom for the press corps' annual celebration of itself. The president acknowledged perceptions that he's a media darling: "Most of you covered me; all of you voted for me. Apologies to the Fox table."
This story, "A Tale of Two Morehouse Men" from the AJC grieves me. It's one thing to be against incarcerating young black men, but if Norris's record of violence is accurate, he should've been locked-up. It's a disgrace to the reputation of Morehouse.

This tale is so DISHEARTNING.
Miranda
I read this story this morning, it broke my heart. Norris definitely should have been locked up long ago. Its completely unfair. I wish Frank Johnson would sue him....and Morehouse as well. Norris should have been suspended.
You're right; Johnson should be getting a nice check--even if it's from an HBCU. This is a particulary horrible PR debacle, because there have been other cases where Morehouse students attacked one another. The notion that a kid with "material resources" get's away with "attempted-murder" on a kid with "lesser resources." That's blasphemy for a school that produced MLK.

Boys' garden already yielding dividends
Sarah Sackey was at first mystified. In an empty field near her Garden Park apartment, someone had fenced in a slice of west Charlotte's Fred Alexander Park and tilled the soil. A few weeks later, plants she'd never seen in her native Africa began to sprout. “I didn't know who did it,” says Sackey, 39, “but I started coming just to watch the plants. It's so quiet, so relaxing. It made everybody in the neighborhood feel good to see it.” To the surprise of many, those responsible are a group of 31 boys, ages 12 to 18, who started the 1,500-square-foot garden in March for the sheer fun of it. All are members of The Males Place, a mentoring group for middle and high school boys sponsored by the Mecklenburg County Health Department. This marks the organization's first attempt at gardening in its three-decade history, but the teens' confidence is such that they're talking of selling the crop at market to raise money for a group trip in 2010 to Charlotte's sister city, Kumasi, Ghana. Anything that helps boys, young men, young adults whom are African American I support. I hope Michelle get winds of this and speaks out to make it national. Recogninzing yong men going into this summer w/ little opportunity for work or structured recreation will be invaluable.

I love it! LOVE, LOVE, LURVE this story. We have ignored our boys for so long. (not to say that we have done all that well with our young girls, but that's another talk show...) One thing I will say about military service is that it teaches men how to work together to get projects accomplished. For that reason, (and that reason alone!) I wish all young men could benefit from basic training.
As a society we would benefit from their energy.
Now about the girls....
RobM
I honestly wish EVERYONE(as in no exceptions) whom turns 18 had to do military service for a year. Just learning to say yes sir and no sir tells everyone you are about something.
Miranda
My older brother feels the same way. A couple of friends that have served believe it would be very beneficial, a year of service might do a world of good.
After stating the obvious - that if The Mac Man was still alive, there is no way in hell he would have been asked to be the entertainment at such an establishment type of event - I think the reason he came to mind was the way Bernie could cut anybody down to size. There was something in the ferociousness of his delivery that could zero in on the littlest thing about a person and turn it into a full blown rant so full of profanity it would even make Rahm Emmanuel raise his eyebrows.
Bernie would have cut a little closer than Wanda.

Bernie Mac gone but never forgotten
The Mac Man would have given Michelle Obama a little grief too.
"Turned on that same damn plasma TV a few weeks ago, just when I thought I had gotten rid of Barack messin up my TV, and damn if it ain't Michelle Obama, the First Lady, standing behind the White House with a hoe in her hand like she 'bout to crop some cotton. Michelle! Has you lost your mind? Don't you know we's in the house now? Matter fact, you ain't just IN the house, you is the master of the house!
Negroes been running from them damn fields down South for years, trying to get to Chicago, and D.C., and New York - you know, the city life - and here you are on TV trying to get us to start growing some damn fresh vegetables?
What I'ma look like in my silk shirts and my gators trying to plant some damn lettuce in my backyard? Black as I am in all that sun? You know how much I pay Chemlawn every month to keep stuff from growing in my backyard that ain't grass? I don't need no damn fresh vegetables. I gots collard greens in the deep freeze from 2004. I gots field peas in the deep freeze I inherited from Big Mama when she passed back in 1999. I'm GOOD!"
The Media whine begins. I broke down and tuned in to CNN this morning just to see what the frat boys and the mean girls had to say about Wanda and Obama bringing down the house. They didn't disappoint me. Howard Kurtz and friends were appalled and said Wanda was ought of line for accusing Rush Limpballs of Treason and saying he was the 20th hijacker but missed the flight because he was high on oxycotin. And how dare she make the joke with references to race. John (Mrs. Dana Bash) King mumbled something about his "honeymoon with the media" or something.
This is the same lapdog media who laughed out loud when George W. Bush played the video of him looking for WMD under the rug in the oval office while our sons and daughters were dying and being wounded/maimed for life in Iraq. This is the same lapdog media that thought it was funny when Laura Bush said she and Lynn Cheney were "desperate housewives". This is the same lapdog media that bashed Stephen Colbert the same way they are bashing Wanda. This is proof, Rush and company can dish it out but they can't take it.
I'm with you there. Old folks like Pat Buchanan couldn't deal. Their widdle sensitivities were outraged. (eyeroll) All them need to STFU. Both Wanda and Barack were hilarious and your interpretation of Bernie Mac at the WHCD? Priceless
Booky
I can't take credit for the Bernie Mac interpretation. It is an excerpt from the link provided by Brown Man Thinking. I should have included the link. Apologies to all.
