With his new Supreme Court pick, Obama gives GOPers a choice: Tick off social conservatives or alienate Hispanic voters.

“Activist judge” vs. GOP need to maintain any sort of relevance with the growing Latino population. I love this story. The Republican party is flailing with its unlikely coalition struggling to maintain coherence in light of the 2008 defeat. What ever shall this dwindling, extreme, regional has-been party do?

The GOP only cared about the Spanish speaking population because they were Catholic. They sought to exploit social issues specifically abortion. The GOP was not out in the fields w/ Caesar Chavez fighting or farm workers rights. They were no attempting to work w/ Puerto Ricans to close the naval firing range. They weren't working w/ Mexicans to create a real immigration policy. They were only intersted in helping make sure El Salavdor hand no progressive leadership and abetted the murder of Archbishop Oscar Romero.
Given the above I'll bet dollars to donuts the GOP has lost native spanish speaking Americans for good. Even the rabbiblancos of Cuba split their vote in the last Presidential election.
