Hey, do you think that we can find a Black man or anybody who will be willing to stuff Elizabeth Cheney in the trunk of a car? I am sick of her and he daddy. Lock her in the house with her 5 kids and let them run her crazy or something. Please get these people out of the media.
...I have to say that I am really truly deeply and personally pissed off my the tenor of a lot of the commentary on Sonia Sotomayor. The idea that any time a person with a Spanish last name is tapped for a job, his or her entire lifetime of accomplishments is going to be wiped out in a riptide of bitching and moaning about “identity politics” is not a fun concept for me to contemplated. Qualifications like time at Princeton, Yale Law, and on the Circuit Court that work well for guys with Italian names suddenly don’t work if you have a Spanish name. Heaven forbid someone were to decide that there ought to be at least one Hispanic columnist at a major American newspaper.
Somehow, when George W. Bush affects a Texas accent, that’s not identity politics. When John Edwards gets a VP nomination, that’s not identity politics. But Sonia Sotomayor! Oh my heavens!
...conservatives are playing with fire here, and underestimating the number of, say, Mexican-Americans in Texas who didn’t think of themselves as having a great deal in common with Puerto Ricans from New York who are waking up today to find that in the eyes of the conservative movement normal qualifications for office don’t count unless you’re a white Anglo.

Okay guys,
Just thinking again, but this Supreme Court Roll-out could not have been timed better. What were people talking about before this? 1. Nancy Pelois calling CIA liars. 2. Senator Dems voted en masse against Gitmo funding. These stories were the talk of the weekend...NOT ANYMORE!!!
Damn you Barack Obama...!!!
This is like the Kennedy, Edwards, & Gore rollouts during the primaries and general. Obama admin is playing hardball ya'll.
parker404
So true. I was just thinking about Nancy Pelosi's situation and how it has gone completely off the radar.
Like another poster says, "Damn you Barack Obama, you pretty muthafvcka!!!"

EVENING OPEN THREAD IS UP!!
Val
Republican Senator: Sotomayor Will Be Confirmed (VIDEO) Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) said on C-SPAN Wednesday morning that Judge Sonia Sotomayor would be confirmed by the United States Senate and become a member of the Supreme Court.
Just a few days ago, the Republican Party was struggling to disassociate themselves from the Party of No label, and now, with the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court of the United State, the new battle cry is, "We are not racists":
Lionel Sosa, a Texas-based Republican ad maker who designed Latino outreach for GOP presidents from Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, said that opposing Sotomayor "would be one more nail in the Republicans' image coffin in terms of Latino voters."
"When you're anti the first Latina on the Supreme Court, you're anti-my-family. . . . I would take it that these people are anti-Latino," Sosa added. "The worst thing the Republicans can do is oppose her."
The Senate's Republican leadership, aware of the potential pitfalls, began conferring Tuesday with several Latino strategists, seeking their assessment of conservative opposition.
The GOP's dilemma on Sotomayor is the latest example of the party's internal struggle over how to reinvent itself at a time that its voter base is increasingly dominated by Southern, conservative white men.
Which leads us to a classic case of, rock, meet hard place, because the very people given the "leaders of the party" label -- the Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich wing of the party -- aren't struggling at all. They've come out against Sotomayor in full attack mode, calling her, among other things, a "reverse racist," a "radical," and a "disaster." And it probably doesn't help when the media outreach person for the Republican National Committee is retweeting claims of racism against Sotomayor
Via Glenn Greenwald (and one of his readers) comes a moment from Samuel Alito’s confirmation hearings that will either silence Sonia Sotomayor’s conservative critics or expose their hypocrisy for what it is.
In an exchange with Sen. Tom Coburn, who had asked Alito to discuss how his personal experiences shows that "he cared for the little guy," Alito said that his family’s experience as immigrants influenced his outlook on immigration cases.
And that’s why I went into that in my opening statement. Because when a case comes before me involving, let’s say, someone who is an immigrant — and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases — I can’t help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn’t that long ago when they were in that position…
When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account.

I Had a Very Sad Talk with my Aunt Today-GM Bankqutcy by kayla9170 [Subscribe] Share this on Twitter - I Had a Very Sad Talk with my Aunt Today-GM Bankqutcy Wed May 27, 2009 at 02:24:10 PM PDT My late Father and Aunt left the south in the early 1960's along with many other former Southerners from the great state of Arkansas. My Daddy, who graduated Valedictorian in his high school class of about 75 folks when on to Shorter College in Arkansas on a full basketball and academic scholarship. The first person in my family to graduate from high school and college. My Aunt-who did not graduate from high school moved to Flint, MI. This is a blog about how General Motors has been a part of my life for 40 years.
The Prez did not "directly" ask her views on abortion!? Huh? I think that would be appropriate since on an old DOJ app she responded that the Constitution does not protect a right to abortion and in 2002 wrote an opinion upholding the Bush administration's right to withhold USAID funds from overseas groups that provide or promote abortion.

A little joke for you The Most Sheer Lingerie
A man goes to Victoria Secret to buy his wife the most sheer lingerie he can find. The woman behind the counter goes and gets an outfit. "This is $200," she says. "I want one that's more sheer," says he. "This one is $350." "I want it even more sheer than that." "This one is the most sheer that we have. It's $500." "I'll take it!" The man goes home to his wife and shows it to her saying, "Go put this on and come down to model it for me." His wife goes upstairs, opens the box and thinks, "This thing is so see-through that the old coot won't even notice if I'm wearing it or not. I can take this back for a refund and he won't know the difference." So his wife comes out wearing nothing at all and strikes a pose at the top of the stairs. "So, how do you like it?" she asks. Her husband then complains, " Well Damn, you'd think for $500 they'd iron the damn thing!"

mmm i think its called ebonophobia. which is more or less a condition to which white women and or men when they fell trapped or imprisoned and need to escape, kidnap, or do any sort of crime they dont want to get caught for they then turn to an outside outlet usually this mythical scary black man.

Even more like the chick with the kids who claimed she had been car jacked and the car with the kids taken by a Black Man. Remember? I didn't believe that when I heard it all those years ago. What Black man was going to be driving around with white kids in the car without getting a bunch of looks, even when they are his? But they went crazy looking for this ghost of a Black man. If you want the fastest police intervention all you have to say is Black man attacks white woman and they cam get there faster than Mighty Mouse or Superman. Our sitcoms constantly depicted that and they still never paid attention. Will it ever end?
rikyrah
Yeah, the Black men just kidnapped her at random.
Uh huh.

I really could not believe that any Person of color would buy that one, but many did. I had a really good laugh with the ones who I knew who really thought it was true. LOL
allamr18
lol and kept bof of em? that makes little to no sense. these white women need to start looking at their husbands while they are worried about the mythical large black man in the bushs with the big throbbing penises ready to spread their black seed.
RobM
Isn't it strange how the pyscho cop always kills someone's grandmother to get caught. Why don't they go, "hey we understand we'll set you up." you know like Dexter. This woman earned it
pjamma
If one more person claims that an all white male Supreme Court is fine because an all white male court made the correct ruling in Plessy v. Ferguson I am going to scream. I have now heard three different talking heads say this. One of them was a woman! Who added this to the talking points? I want to slap them up side the head.
pjamma
In my anger I typed Plessy v Ferguson when they all meant Brown v. Board which overturned Plessy which makes me even more upset because the white males were the ones who fucked it up in the first place, ruling that segregation was cool and it took another 100 years and another group of white men to finally realize they got it wrong and we are suppose to be happy and thankful? Really? If there had been a diverse representation on the court we would not have had segregation and there would not be a need to be all proud about how the white men overturned it. They were the one's who created it!!!
In no way does it make sense that a group made up only of white men should decide anything for the US as a whole. And I am shocked and appalled that anyone could get on TV and argue that it is okay. And then further say this is why we don't need "affirmative action" picks because white men have done just fine. And don't even get me started on Pat Buchannan and his "if there are no white men considered on the short list it's bigotry" because there could not be four people more qualified then a white man.
I do not know how I am going to get through the next three months. It's about to get even uglier out there.
khrish
You are spot on with that post. And i wish they would send old wrinkled faced Pat Buchanan home. His time has past and he needs to go sit his old racist ass down. Why they even bother to ask him about anything that has to do with equality in this country is a puzzle to me. Had some person of color written an article such as the one he wrote on his opinion of Black folk in America, they would never be asked for an opinion. They never ask controversal people of color how they feel about anything or anyone. I am sick to death of this ole wrinkled ass, cunt face racist and what he has to say.
Miranda
This is a talking point? They actually went THERE??
spirit_55z
Some white witch, bitch named Wendy. Please, these same muthafuckers are the ones who will do whatever they can to skirt or totally enforcethe laws with as much racial bias as they can muster.
pjamma
They actually went there. In defense of needing a diverse court. Who needs diversity? White men have been holding it down.
Or holding someone down.
whiterosebuddy
Yes, but the point is...it tooke white males 100 years to get it right. A woman would have ruled right the FIRST time and no one would have ever heard of Plessyv.Ferguson!!
djchefron
White women at that time was more worried about their suffarage to think about the rights of the "negroes" Jus Sayin.
allamr18
you think if it was a black person or woman helping write the constitution that it wouldve taken the 1960s for equal rights? or if was a gay person it would take this long until they got any sort of rights?
rikyrah
Fine for whom?
Wasn't fine for my ancestors in Jim Crow Mississippi and Jim Crow Tennessee.
rorysmomma
You would think they would hold on to the rights of the minority seeing that they are soon to become the minority.
khrish
That's what scaring the crap out of white men. They are so afraid that someone is going to serve them up the justice that they have served to minorities all these years. Remember in DO THE RIGHT THING, Sal's son thought that Mukie was a joke when he suggested that people of color would come back to take their righteous place in the world. Remember, it is againt the law of nature for a minority group to rule the world and they intend to keep that hold by ANY MEANS NECESSARY. I really wish that Latinos and Black could work together to insure their fall, but Jim Crow was such an effective method I doubt that will ever happen.
rorysmomma
khrish, you are absolutely on point. O h but it will happen.? They are going to be the new minority.? And ain't ish they can do about it.? They are so quick to want to pull the race card.? They don't realize that they will be pulling it soon.

I like Sestak and I don't trust Specter. If Sestak is serious then he will need help.I think we as a community should start a PAC and give what we can afford to candidates that share our values.
NMP
What values would those be? Moderate? That's certainly what Sestak is. Being the opposition doesn't always make one opposite. He's garnering about 18% among Democrats in PA. The President will be campaigning and fund-raising for Sestak. Where does that live your PAC and money. Wouldn't that money be better served my contributing to progressive Black candidates to challenge Black incumbents that have stayed in office far too long? Why can't we develop our own strategy and not jump on the white liberal band wagon?
isonprize
you sure about that? I think PBO said he would campaign for Specter. I'm pretty sure Joe Biden will campaign for Specter.
RobM
It leaves the PAC against the President because we think the President is wrong to put that KAPO in front of Democrats whom have worked hard to build the party in what is traditional Republican strongholds. Sestak has worked so hard as has Murphy that even after one term they have the potential to move on and still secure the seat for the party. Penn is not NY we don't need carpetbaggers like NY nor do we need Republican carpetbaggers whom appealed to that Joe Sixpack crowd to win. In six years the fact that Spector maybe dead or senile is not another good reason to put in in front of men whom worked for the President's election. By creating a PAC to elect a real Democrat doesn't stop anyone from starting a PAC to get more progressive AA candidates. They can co-exist in conflict with one another. Besides just becasue President Obama is a good snake handler doesn't mean he has to do it all the time. I mean Holder, Clinton, Reid, Pelosi, Spector, the DLC it gets tiresome.
djchefron
To grow as democrats we need moderates and get rid of the riff raff.Bobby Rush, John Conyers and Charlie Rangel to name a few. That being said if President Obama wins a second term he will need moderates in the Senate to truly pass an agenda that can last for 20 to 40 years and that will make him a great President.

*DEAD* @ Rollin Roland Burris stuttering it up with Tweety.
eclecticbrotha
Roland Burris is done because Tweety says so? I think not.
If there was damning info on the tape do you really think Burris would have let it be released without a fight?
khrish
they are going to have to come with nets and a wagon to get Burris out of that seat. He has to have it on that big old tombstone that he has errected. You heard him ask the ex-gov's brother if he was going to have a seat in paradise. He was pitiful on Hardball and then Rachel Maddow came up with even worst evidence of him on tape. Poor ole man. He's not even interested in accomplishing anything in that seat, he just wants to be there. Look how they treated him at the President's speech back in March. They totally ignored him and he didn't even care. He just sat in his seat and ended up yawning, not even covering his mouth. What a joke! They are not going to run him out of that seat because they know he is not a threat to any of them; so he'll stay and just keep looking stupid.
Nobody said all that, bruh. I was just laughing at the fact that Rollin Burris was sounding like Alderman Davis from "Good Times" when that recording was being played.
If they bounce him out before 2010, fine. But there's no way in Hades he's winning re-election.
djchefron
No, Burris is done because he was stupid to even accept the seat.He will never raise the money to run.
eclecticbrotha
Duh. Its been known for months he won't be reelected.Tweety is saying he won't serve out the remainder of the term.
djchefron
Tweety do go overboard but Burris was stupid like Jackson.Anyone who follows Illinois politics knows that Blago was crooked and was under investigation. Why would you even be seen in the same room with him?
khrish
It's called "selfishness". When that happened Burris knew that was the only chance he would ever have to get where he longed to be. He didn't give a hoot what anyone thought. He was going to be a Senator, hot damn! Screw all of us. That was the chance of a lifetime. Besides, he didn't plan to do anything, he just wanted to be seen and hold the title of Senator. Again they are not going to get him to resign. He will never resign. they will have to physically take him out of that seat. Watch him.
eclecticbrotha
Because they're all Chicago area politicians and its impossible to do business in the state without having contact with the governor.
I'm looking at the segment now and Tweety is taking everything out of context to fit his premise that Burris is guilty of something. In the tapes Burris even dsays he would look like he was doing a Quid Pro Quo if he raised money and then got the seat. The whole conversation is a discussion where nothing concrete was decided.
MrNoface
I kept waiting for him to say "What had happened was..." Dude was definitely stammering to no effect (kinda hard to beat a tape recording).

Miranda
lol......I can't get past the fact they're holding a protest rally at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Cant quite figure it out, but something is inherently wrong with this.
RobM
President Obama ran on repealing DTDA and has done nothing to repeal it.
Sepia
But isn't that Congress' job? Why hasn't Congress put forth legislation to repeal DADT? Why hasn't the LGBT community put pressure on them instead of solely focusing on Obama?
MoObama
Correct me RobM but before DADT wasn't it unlawful for gays to be in the military? Isn't this what Clinton spend the first several months of his administration laboring over, how to retain gays in the service without harrassment -- thus establishing DADT? If this is true, repealing DADT will take the military back where they were before. I don't think this is something he can fix with a signature its to deep.
NMP
Let's see...white gays ran a piss poor campaign against prop 8 never reaching out to the African American Community and now they want to protest a popular BLACK President? Yeah, good luck with that 2nd go round.
Sepia
Thank you. Even now, with all the protesting, all you see is white gays in the mix.
Message?
RobM
Homosexual organizations did run a piss poor campaign. They are attacking the candidate now President who ran on repealing DTDA. Try reading Pam's House Blend. It is written by a AA female homosexual. She has been in people's shit about how poorly the Prop *8 campaign was run specifically to the AA community. here is a sample http://pamshouseblend.com/diary/11181/gibbs-at-...
It's not rational at all. But the "gay community" hasn't been rational since the late 70s/early 80s.
MoObama
I heard the gay community is going to protest Prez. Obama at the Beverly Hills Hotel for the supreme court decision that came down yesterday. Would someone give me rational view of this action?
I've written a number of posts about LGBT rights, Prop 8 and the hijacking of our Civil Rights movement at my blog but I also wrote something new today that details the continued bigotry of Gays & Lesbians against Trans people. It's their dirty little secret and if they weren't pushing for marriage equality for some so hard they wouldn't have dragged down transpeople with them.
Today's Conversation Prop 8 Fight Rages On: What About Trans Women and Men? http://snipurl.com/iv6sw
Apparently, some members of the LGBT community think their agenda is far more important than the other agenda President Obama is putting on the backburner. And apparently, Prop 8 happened on Obama's watch, so naturally he's responsible for it.
MrNoface
Just an updated version of blame the black man ('cause remember the whole prop 8 thing was our fault to begin with). Honestly this kind of protest will probably do more harm to their cause than it does good!

not only was prop 8 black peoples fault, so was the housing collapse crime etc etc etc

Scraping The Bottom of Barrel So far the criticisms of Sonia Sotomayor are much more revealing about her conservative critics than they are about her. I flagged Sen. Inhofe's statement yesterday. Here are some new morsels from the right:
National Review Online's Mark Krikorian: "Putting the emphasis on the final syllable of Sotomayor is unnatural in English... and insisting on an unnatural pronunciation is something we shouldn't be giving in to."
Weekly Standard's Michael Goldfarb: "Obama seems to have the views of a 21-year-old Hispanic girl -- that is, only by having a black president, an Hispanic justice, a female secretary of State, and Bozo the Clown as vice president will the United States become a true 'vanguard of societal ideas and changes.'"
Meanwhile, MSNBC's Monica Novotny just flayed Curt Levey, one of the anti-Sotomayor talking heads a few minutes ago. Levey foundered around until he grasped ahold of the Jeffrey Rosen TNR piece on Sotomayor that, curiously, Rosen hasn't been anywhere on TV to defend.
