From what I read in the blog post above, the men actually did go through the trouble of “planting” what they THOUGHT were bombs. That's not the kind of thing that most of actually go out and DO every day! But I agree, this is not the “crime of the century”!

You make a good point. There are people out there who are much more dangerous. Also, I agree with you that the government shouldn't be “pushing” the story or bragging about it, to make us feel “safe”. It seems like just another sad story about some people who had bad intentions. Still, please keep in mind that those guys (according to what I read in the blog post above) actually did go through the trouble to plant what they thought were bombs. I wouldn't be happy about having these guys back out on the streets. In real life, no matter what they fantasize about, they will probably end up harming some poor people in the city who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Think about walking a baby carriage past those guys.
I'm certainly not “feeling extra safe”, and believe me, I am not HAPPY about this sad story.

these folks were entrapped. they had neither the means nor intelligence to remotely pull this off.

my beef is, this is pushed as a legitimate news story, under some aegis that we should feel ' safe'.

why the hell should I feel safe that these clowns were arrested.
1. they had no access to weapons.
2. they knew nothing about explosives
3. they had NO MONEY.

they had neither the means nor the smarts to pull this off. this entire operation was funded by the Government.

if they had never met the informant, they would have just been another group of ex-cons that converted to Islam without a clue.

MEANWHILE,

there are SERIOUS cells...

with the MEANS...

with the intelligence to make the weapons AND the connections to BUY what they do not have...

and, they can do it WITHOUT government funding.

this entire operation was a joke. it wasn't serious.

and, I mean it, you local group of gangbanging thugs was more dangerous than these folks.

The blog post seems a bit odd. From what I read in the blog post, apparently the government caught some people who wanted to plant bombs and harm innocent people. It's not clear why there is much reason to doubt the news story. I've never heard of this news item before, and I don't know any of the details, but this seems like a legitimate news story to me. “tinfoil is as tinfoil does.”

I was listening to NPR last night and they're talking about how this was "the gang that couldn't shoot straight" - the 'types' of weapons, etc.

Uh-hmm - were they ALL black Muslim men? Ranting about the Jews.....

Where was Dick again?

It reminds me, also, of the 'terrorist' plot in Miami where they arressted those black men and it came out they had had everything supplied to them by the 'sting operators'. The maps, weapons and uniforms!!

That was another aspect of the bust that was suspicious. Are you still a terrorist if the FBI supplies your fucked-up weapons?

Actually, I think soulsistah is REALLY ONTO something! It's about more money based on fear-mongering.
