For those who can't live in peace-or leave others to live in peace-under a functioning government and want to use violence-including piracy-to make their points…well, they need to be done away with.

You are looking at it from a political standpoint only, but from a criminal standpoint, left and right wing extremism may differ……and I think before Republicans take up the battle cry of the Michelle Malkin's of the world, they may want to consider a scholarly perspective of what constitutes and differentiates left and right wing groups..

In criminology terms, from what I have read….right-wing extremism is not solely white supremacist's groups (though they are a large contingent), as some scholars have also lumped Black Separatist groups like “Nation of Islam” and the “New Black Panther Party” in this group.

Right wing extremism, from some scholar's views are those who profess views in opposition to change in the established governmental order or who wish to ensure that traditional attitudes and practices are restored to governmental order

On the other hand, left wing extremism are those who profess views to reform or overthrow the established governmental order in the name of greater freedom or well-being of the common man. Many groups lumped into left-wing extremism include the Black Panthers circa the 1960s and the Weather Underground.

Now, there is NO doubt in my mind that there has been an upswing and increase in activity of “right wing” groups and yes, I do hope there will be better surveillance of these groups. That is why so many of us here speak out against the dog whistle and coded words of many elected officials who echo some of the philosophies of groups.

Now during most of bush's term it appeared ecoterrorism groups like Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and Animal Liberation Front(ALF) were the biggest domestic threat.

Honestly, anyone who does not think Obama's presidency has created an uptick in right wing hate groups is a fool….point blank. This goes beyond just politics….and i just hope people will be more informed…because that is how misinformation and lies is spread.

But you know what's so crazy, my own father, in his 40s died the summer before my Senior year of high school, I was 17.

Everyone was under the impression that I would be able to recieve SSi benefits at least until i finished college….my own dad had worked since he was a teenager.

Well, let's just say the month I turned eighteen, and a month after graduating high school, my SSI survivor benefits ceased. It appears Reagan and Congress in the 1980s changed the laws and no longer allowed SSI benefits to students whose parents were deceased and who continued higher learning. I always thought that was horrible, but it just goes to show you how the system may not always be fair.

I know that, Monie….but everyone else doesn't.

Gates had a thing a few days ago, about scrapping some programs/hardware. From what I've been reading, I think it's less about reducing the budget and more about actually spending the money where it's actually needed ~ the VA and troop fundage.

nope, my Dad died when I was in college, 1998. The law changed closer to 1996. A friend of mine was receiving benefits around this period and I assumed I would as well but the law had just recently changed. My dad's stepchild received SS benefits though, since they were minors.

However, I did receive a veteran's benefit. It was around $120 per month through the duration of college.

Nope to what?……I graduated high school and turned 18 BEFORE 1996 and was NOT able to collect SSI benefits.

So I am not sure how you are discounting my OWN experience.

My benefits were cut before 1996.

And I remember the case manager who handled our case at Social Security saying back then that Reagan or Bush had approved amendments that changed the law and that many parents still assumed that dependents could receive benefits as long as they stayed in college.
