Kelis, the singer of the provocative "Milkshake" song who is seven months pregnant with rapper Nas's son, has filed for divorce from the musician, her rep tells PEOPLE.

Obama kicked off the "White House to Light House" Wounded Warrior Soldier's Ride Thursday, boosting a program that began

three years ago to raise awareness of the challenges facing military veterans as they recover from life-altering injuries.

Forty veterans wearing red, white and blue jerseys -- many with artificial legs or arms -- were escorted onto the South Lawn driveway to the cheers from the several hundred family and military members gathered for the start of a race.

Obama gave brief remarks thanking them for their "extraordinary bravery” before Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki handed him a white canister with a blue top.

He held it up with his left hand and quipped, "I don't want to catch anybody off guard,” before saying, "On your mark, get set, go!" and sounding the horn.

The riders rode by Obama, waving as they went. They made a loop on the driveway around the South Lawn and passed him again before heading onto their race, which takes them from the White House to Annapolis, Maryland.

Senators John McCain and Carl Levin were on hand, as were Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Veterans Affairs Assistant Secretary of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs Tammy Duckworth.

Gary Coleman limped into the lobby of the DirecTV Tribeca Center in green Crocs and jeans, looking unusually thin and noticeably weary from a day of publicity. A publicist had explained earlier that due to a pulled groin, the interview would have to take place on the ground floor of the building, as Coleman was in too much pain to walk up the stairs.

What happened?

"I was driving my wife's car and I just starting limping when I got out of it one day. I pulled my hamstring and my groin muscle at the same time. I was beached for like five days. My hamstring just healed."

His wife would be Shannon Price, 23, the pleasant redhead milling in the background. They live in Utah County, Utah together, are visibly in love, and their mortgage is, according to Coleman, what has driven him, now 41, to star in Midgets vs. Mascots.

"If they weren't paying me, you wouldn't be talking to me," Coleman proclaims, motioning at director Ron Carlson and adding, "He is very proud of the film, and I don't know why.

"I have very little good to say about the movie because it's just so offensive. But I'm sure if you're a fan of Borat, you'll like this movie. But I have never liked the word midget."

Coleman describes Borat as "ridiculous, offensive and pointless."

Earlier this month Page Six quoted Coleman as saying he wanted "to bash my fists right in my agent's face" for booking him this job.

Article said he only got 4 months pay - i don't think he was a partner. To me it sounds like that at his age he felt a failure without future prospects and sank into a clinical depression. He probably found consolation in planning his own death and directing his wife on their finances.

McAllister said that Palin is “concerned by media coverage” like the AP story yesterday that reported she “changed her mind” about the federal stimulus money. Now, this may seem a little confusing because Palin originally said she didn’t want a third of the stimulus money, and now she’s taking almost all of it. She was against it before she was for it. Sounds like she changed her mind….but wait.

According to McAllister, the reason we have all been led to believe she flip flopped is because….”apparently nuance and subtlety are dead.” (A moment of silence for nuance and subtlety please)

Then McAllister went on to say that she has consistently said from the beginning that she’s concerned about “exploding national debt.” He forgot the part about how rejected stimulus money wasn’t going back to the national coffers, but rather to other states.

He also said that she was worried about “unsustainable state spending.” He forgot the part about the fact that nobody could find all those ’strings’ she was supposedly worried about.

After all the whining about that AP article that stated Palin “changed her mind” instead of, perhaps, the more accurate “She used nuance and subtlety to alter the message from one point in time to another,” the big announcement came:

“Today we’ve launched a Twitter service!”

Oh boy!

“We have to be able to correct the record instantaneously,” he went on to explain.

The only thing that made me laugh harder than this ridiculous use of personnel, time and public airwaves to announce a Twitter account was when a woman from Wasilla called in and asked

“Is the governor still receiving per diem to live in her own home?”

She held her ground for a long time, and had Eddie Burke all a-twitter (pardon the pun). He sputtered and talked in circles and ended up falling back on, “You’re like one of these other crazy women who filed the frivolous ethics complaints. A bunch of crazy delusional women. Delusional women. Crazy women! A bunch of crazy women! That’s what they are - a bunch of crazy women!”

Way to debate the issues.

And the final thing I heard as they came back from a commercial break, and before I had to run across the room and kill my radio was:

+ House passes credit card bill that helps consumers

Riding a crest of populist anger, the House on Thursday approved a bill to restrict credit card practices and eliminate sudden increases in interest rates and late fees that have entangled millions of consumers. The legislation, dubbed the Credit Card Holders' Bill of Rights, passed by a bipartisan vote of 357-70 following lobbying by President Barack Obama and members of his administration.

The measure would prohibit so-called double-cycle billing and retroactive rate hikes and would prevent companies from giving credit cards to anyone under 18.

If they become law, the new provisions won't take effect for a year, except for a requirement that customers get 45 days' notice before their interest rates are increased. That would take effect in 90 days.

Similar legislation is before the Senate, where it could be taken up as early as next week.

"This is a unique opportunity to end abusive practices that afflict millions of families across the nation, to contribute to our economic recovery, and to take a stand for American consumers," Sen. Christopher Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and the bill's primary sponsor, said after the House vote. "Now it is the Senate's turn to act."

Consumer advocates and some Democrats have unsuccessfully sought for years to bring new rules to the industry.

Supporters want to put a final congressional package under Obama's eager pen by the Memorial Day holiday. They acknowledged, though, that House passage of the measure was an opening salvo and a lengthy legislative slog lies ahead, in which industry interests could prevail in getting restrictions weakened.

"The administration supports Congress' efforts to ... provide additional strong and reliable protections for consumers that ban unfair and abusive practices," the White House said in a statement following the House vote. "The nation's credit card system must have more accountability, including more effective oversight and more effective enforcement of credit card issuers who violate the law."

Obama's engagement in the issue diverged sharply from his handling of a plan to spare hundreds of thousands of homeowners from foreclosure through bankruptcy, which met defeat in the Democratic-controlled Senate Thursday on a 45-51 vote. Obama had embraced the plan, but facing stiff opposition from the banking industry, he did little to pressure lawmakers who worried it would encourage bankruptcy filings and catapult interest rates higher.

Before approving the credit card bill, the House adopted a series of amendments - some of which were pushed by the White House - that amplified the restrictions on industry practices.

The House measure incorporates Federal Reserve regulations due to take effect in July 2010 but goes further by adding restrictions for credit cards for college students as well as other changes. Payments made by card holders that exceed the minimum monthly level would have to be applied first to the portion of the remaining balance with the highest interest rate, and then to any other balances in descending order.

Consumers would have to be notified 30 days before their accounts are closed.

Double-cycle billing eliminates the interest-free period for consumers who move from paying the full balance monthly to carrying a balance.

Opponents tried vainly on the House floor to temper a fast-moving bill with amendments that would have given credit card issuers some openings to raise rates within the proposed restraints.

"We shouldn't take credit opportunities away," said Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas. "I just want consumers to have choices. I want there to be a competitive marketplace."

Hensarling and other Republican opponents endorsed the bill's requirements for clearer disclosure in the fine print of credit card agreements. But they said the legislation overall could prompt lenders to restrict credit in an already tight market to compensate for the new requirements.

That's the leading argument made by banking industry executives against the legislation.

Edward Yingling, president and CEO of the American Bankers Association, said the group "strongly believes that any additional legislative efforts should strive to achieve the right balance between enhancing consumer protection, and ensuring that credit remains available to consumers and small businesses at a reasonable cost."

"We continue to believe that more work needs to be done to achieve that balance," he said.

Supporters of the bill also drew on the economic crisis to make their case.

"Americans deserve a fair shake," said Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo. The credit card industry "has taken advantage of millions of vulnerable Americans."

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., the bill's chief sponsor, said the changes were needed because "many people are turning to their credit cards because they have lost their jobs."

The bill's boosters are tapping into public anger over corporate excesses and the conduct of banks and other companies receiving billions of dollars in taxpayer money.

"At a time when millions of families continue to struggle to make ends meet, additional safeguards are needed to ensure consumers are not being saddled by questionable industry practices," the powerful AARP, the lobbying group representing seniors, said in a statement supporting the bill.

Obama met at the White House last week with executives of the credit card industry and made clear he wants to sign a bill into law. And a day before the House vote, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner convened a meeting with Maloney and representatives of consumer and civil rights groups.

"We need new commonsense rules of the road to establish a more fair, transparent, simple consumer credit market," Geithner said in a statement issued Thursday. "This bill is a major step toward that goal."

The administration is advocating stricter practices that could crimp banks' revenue at the same time the government is shoring up the financial institutions with hundreds of billions of dollars in bailout aid.

The credit card changes could cost the banking industry more than $10 billion a year in interest payments, according to a study by the law firm Morrison & Foerster.

Amid the recession and rising job losses, consumers - even those with strong credit records - have been defaulting at high levels on their credit cards. Banks already battered by the mortgage and credit crises have been bleeding tens of billions in red ink from the losses.

U.S. credit card debt has jumped 25 percent in the past 10 years, reaching $963 billion in January, according to figures from the White House. The average outstanding credit card debt for households that have a card was $10,679 at the end of 2008, according to CreditCard.com, an online market.

Banks are liars. Credit has disappeared in the system when the banks closed accounts for people whom did not use them and had no payment problems. They should be screaming because they did indeed lose credit and had their scores negatively impacted.

Secession-ready Texas has received most federal disaster assistance of any state.

Just weeks after declaring that Texas might secede from the union because "the federal government has become oppressive," Gov. Rick Perry (R) today asked for more federal aid when he "issued a disaster declaration" because of the swine flu. Mother Jones' Jonathan Stein found that, since the beginning of FEMA's record-keeping, Texas has actually received the most federal assistance from FEMA than any other state:

A FEMA spokesman told Stein "that a major disaster declaration is issued when a governor 'determines the state's resources are overrun.'" FEMA reimburses at least 75 percent of the state's recovery costs; currently, the federal govenrment is covering 100 percent of Texas' Hurricane Ike recovery effort.

Jindal spares money for New Orleans Saints while slashing health care and education funding.

Recently, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) released his budget for next year, calling for cuts in higher education and health care for the uninsured and disabled in order to plug a $1.3 billion shortfall in revenue. Already, hospitals are laying off workers. Yet Jindal is managing to spare some funds for his favorite football team:

The Jindal administration wants to use $85 million of a state surplus as well as pay up to $6 million a year to keep the Saints football team in Louisiana, lawmakers said Wednesday. The deal, described by legislators briefed on the offer, would require the state to pay far less than the $23.5 million the team is receiving in annual cash inducements. ... Several lawmakers were critical of the proposal, which coincides with a budget crunch threatening health care and higher education with substantial reduction.

Jindal claims that the team generates millions in revenue every year, but he has pledged to preserve budget-busting tax cuts for upper-income individuals and businesses. State Rep. Karen St. German asked, “Again, behind closed doors, we’re supplementing a multimillionaire. When do we stop the madness and worry about education and health care?”

Fair is Fair: most states are cutting education and health care in the face of massive deficits. Many of the states are considering plugging their deficit holes with the "stimulus money". Where I live teachers in local school systems are being laid off, schools are closing and public services are being consolidated. And this is all being done by Democrats. Next years state budget has a 1 billion dollar hole that is growing larger each week. If we raise taxes to pay for the short fall, we will lose jobs and further income as multinational corporations send jobs and factories out of country. Governors cannot simply run larger and larger deficits like the federal government, they have to gore someone's ox.

Michelle Obama doesn't just inspire us. She affirms us with her intelligence, authenticity, depth and compassion. We see the best of ourselves in her and marvel that no matter what she's doing, she brings 100% of herself to the experience.

I first met Michelle almost five years ago, shortly after Senator Barack Obama's riveting 2004 DNC speech. Long before there was serious talk of a campaign for the presidency, I remember going to the Obamas' house for dinner. I figured there would be takeout since I knew that, like me, Michelle had worked all day. But no, there she was in the kitchen, calm and organized, preparing linguine with shrimp and vegetables.

The woman I witnessed five years ago, with her graciousness, care and attention to detail, is the same woman I visited in the White House in February. Her very presence makes you feel welcome. Her political power is secondary to her heart power, and I salute her for that. I trust her. I know that whatever she gives her attention to, the truth will always be present. She doesn't make false moves.

The joy Michelle, 45, brings to her roles as First Mother and First Lady is what makes her so intoxicating. We want that joy in the roles we inhabit as mothers, wives, workers, daughters and friends. And while we admire those arms and applaud her fashion choices (from J. Crew to top designers), her greatest influence is that she makes us want to be our own best selves — and maybe lift a few weights too.

Watching her on the global stage greeting the Queen and chatting with dignitaries and representing us the way we imagine presenting ourselves on our best day, I was reminded of lines from Maya Angelou's poem "Phenomenal Woman": "It's the fire in my eyes,/ And the flash of my teeth,/ The swing in my waist,/ And the joy in my feet./ I'm a woman/ Phenomenally."

How sweet it is that America has a First Lady who embodies the vibrancy and confidence of a seriously prepared 21st century woman. A phenomenal woman indeed.

Gosh, Oprah's such a tool. She's the anti-Oprah.

After that Mrs. Obama speaks at Time Magazine's glitzy "100 Most Influential People" event-always an elite gathering of the who's who of the who's who.

In a sense the U.S. U.N. mission visit is an extension of Mrs. Obama's first quarter travels to the different cabinet agencies. But the U.S. mission in New York is just bigger time.

And for the world stage, having Amb. Rice and Mrs. Obama-two of the most prominent African American women in the U.S.-talking about international relations together will make a remarkable photograph that says more about the U.S. than a thousand words.

it's interesting that she's attending the TIME event, wonder if she'll work the red carpet with the rest of the "celebs." i kind of hope not; lord knows those same folks clamoring for her attention that night, will turn around and use her attending an event like this to attack her on the morning shows the very next day. in fact that whole day sounds like something that'll start the attacks rolling; i fully expect people to start sniping about her taking off her "mommy not policy" mask & "addressing the U.N." even if that's not what she's actually doing.

For the occasion both women went super casual. The first lady wore cropped gray capri pants and a yellow argyle cardigan with silver and metallic pink sneakers. Dr. Biden did preppy chic in a blue and white striped shirt paired with cropped white pants and silver flats.

Update: The first lady's kicks are Lanvin cap toe sneakers, as ID'd by websites TalkingShopping.com and First Lady Of Style, and range between $540 and $565 at Barneys.com. The argyle sweater is from J. Crew, of course.

Michelle Obama enters most beautiful list

US First Lady Michelle Obama has joined the ranks of celebrities such as Angelinla Jolie and Halle Berry, being listed by celebrity magazine People among the world's 100 most beautiful people.

Mrs Obama, who has been hailed as a style icon by fashionistas around the world, was named in the list alongside A-listers such as Christina Aguilera and George Clooney, and her husband President Barack Obama.

"I had a father and a brother who thought I was beautiful, and they made me feel that way every single day," Mrs Obama told People magazine.

"I grew up with very strong male role models who thought I was smart and fast and funny, so I heard that a lot. I know that there are many young girls who don't hear it. But I was fortunate."

The First Lady loves Black men. This much is obvious, because it's obvious she was loved by them.

Black men ADORE Michelle Obama.

Edwards Says Husband Should Not Have Run

The New York Daily News got an advance copy of Resilience by Elizabeth Edwards who writes that when she learned of her husband's affair, "I cried and screamed, I went to the bathroom and threw up."

"Despite feeling deeply deceived," she "nonetheless publicly stood by her husband's side, lending his candidacy the aura of a warm, loving family life. But she had actually wanted him to quit the race to protect the family."

Later events proved her right. "He should not have run," she says.

mrs. edwards generally seems like a nice lady and i feel for her because of her health; yes her husband is an ass, but to be perfectly honest she shouldn't have been out there selling the charade to voters. she was out there during the primaries campaigning on her family values (taking digs at hillary) and the sanctity of marriage when it came to her husband's stance on gay marriage (fully aware of her husband's disrespect for the sanctity of marriage); she was telling voters that obama's health care plan wouldn't cover her cancer treatment etc. (which wasn't true) she went whole hog selling her husband, she was fully complicit in putting his ambitions above the interests of the democratic party and the country, knowing full well that this was lurking in the closet and was bound to come out. i know you're not supposed to be critical of a dying woman, and i don't have anything against her personally; it's obviously complicated when it's your marriage, but i just think it's dishonest to pretend that she wasn't complicit in his deception. anyway, back to the book tour...

Ed Schultz did a great commentary about The President's discussion of torture last night at the Press Conference.

I saw it.....and agree. The Republicans love Churchill, I recall some even thought they could draw comparisons between GW and Churchill (omg). The President's comments on Churchill being against torture was brilliant.

Please - Churchill authorized the fire bombing of Dresden - a target with zero military value. 40,000 dead cvilians in one night. He later tried to distance himself from this attack.

Other than that tiny little fact...torture is still bad.
