They still don't realize how much they have already lost. Some people just can't stop doing MASSA'S BIZNESS. Every time the GOP comes back with something it's always for the people who have, the fat cats, will these middle class and poor people ever get it? Can they hear, can they read? Russ is making a mint and they are so tied to his show that they can't even imagine that he's making it off them. What the hell is wrong with these people?

It's a threat to the country the McConnell knows, Thank heaven! these old gray butt men are still convinced that they are dealing with a naive President, don't they? Did they learn nothing from the election? There's a new sherrif in town and they still can't seem to grasp that. They have been doing things their way for so long it is hard for them to imagine that there is another way to skin a cat. I love how the President never lets them see him coming! Vive Americaine!

It pains me to say this for a variety of reasons, none of which being that I consider myself a Republican, but the damn GOP will NEVER get it. Right after the election, the Republican Conference Chair, Lamar Alexander (R-TN) said something about the election being the equivalent of the American people sending the party to the corner for a time out. Well, they still haven't taken that time out to sit and think and really understand what the country is looking for from a conservative party. We need that balance, but they are going even MORE right of sane (i.e. towards ca-razy) instead… it's a shame.

In this political climate, I blame Arlen Specter, not. It's every man for himself and the GOP set that play in motion. It seems to be a lot of get with it or get left. Specter has chosen to get gone. But this post makes excellent points, including he's going to have to show his viability to the party on some major issue…

When the Constitution was amended to limit the President to two terms, another two paragraphs should have included Congress and the Judiciary.

I can't stand these people who feel that the office they currently occupy belongs to them until they die. These "professional" lifetime office holders get on my nerves. Any argument that they could be voted out could have applied to the President, yet FDR knew that people will vote for familiarity over the new guy. We have too much familiarity today, and it's gotten us nothing but a lot of contempt.

Specter is no less arrogant than Lieberman.

I'm glad his excellent health care has worked out for him. He better support decent health care coverage for Americans. I don't want to hear a thing about mandated payments to insurance companies.

We Democrats here in Pennsylvania know Arlen Specter's record better than anyone and you'll be hearing endless reiterations of his many sins over the next three years. I don't need to do that now. Suffice to say that most progressives in this state find Specter to be enormously frustrating. We do not dispute that he is what passes these days for a moderate Republican. We know that he has a good record on labor issues and that he is officially pro-choice. I know high level people in the teacher's unions that intended to re-register as Republicans to vote for him in the primary and then re-register as Democrats to vote against him in the general. Specter is not hated or despised by most people, but he isn't liked or respected either.
We were hoping to beat him in the 2010 election, not be asked to support him. I suspect most activists and progressives will simply refuse to work for his reelection and we'll probably get organized in the Netroots to do the best job we can financing an alternative in the primary.

This sets us up to look like the left-wing version of the Club for Growth. We look too ideologically rigid and intolerant to allow for moderates in our party. There is no doubt that this will be the dominant media narrative, especially considering that Specter will have the full support of the DNC, DSCC, Harry Reid, and President Obama. But it's not a fair characterization...
