He also inherited an America that, for the first time, tortured people as official government policy. This really is the first time. George Washington refused to torture captured British soldiers (and a few thousand of those soldiers decided to stay in America when that war was over). Before George W. Bush, Americans were "the good guys". I know Obama has enough things to worry about, but this torture issue is not "secondary". It may take years, and I hope Obama is thinking long-term on this.
