On the same day Barack Obama convened his first Cabinet meeting and defended his interrogation policies in a public address, the president also took some time out of his schedule to play sports fan-in-chief.

Though the only event on his schedule after his speech to the CIA was a meeting with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Obama also squeezed in meetings with both golf superstar Tiger Woods and one of his hometown baseball teams, the Chicago White Sox.

Woods just happened to be “in town and wanted to stop by,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told POLITICO.

And while the White Sox were slated for a White House tour at the start of the day, they weren’t originally set to meet with the president. Asked earlier in the afternoon if Obama intended meet the baseball team, a White House aide simply said: “One never knows.”

Obama wasn’t the only one enjoying the day: senior adviser David Axelrod was spotted in the White House around 5 p.m. sporting a White Sox cap, specially made with an Obama campaign logo.
