My feeling is that a lot of these “networking” and video resume types of things can be used either consciously or subconsciously as filtering tools to filter out minorities, women – or any other group.

I have seen way too many instances where in the interview process, a candidate shows a personal presence and dynamic which makes them a fit in person – which isn't reflected in their paper.

This “networking” thing seems to be too much like the “Borg Collective – Assimilate or die!”

And in this case – I have a strong intuition of “whom” is supposed to do the dying.

Time will tell if this administration can provide the correct level of oversight, regulation, transparency and accountability.

IMO the President has tried to have it both ways on this: faking 'outrage' while Treasury and Congress worked to exempt AIG bonuses.

Responsible oversight and transparency are non-existent as we see billions of our dollars funneled to foreign banks and firms like Goldman Sachs, whose former employees are well positioned within the administration.

Bush indeed got us into this mess and the GOP did little to reign in the president, but I see Democrats poised to make the same mistake.

Also, you are either disingenuous or naive to buy the line that deregulation is the lone cause of this mess. None of this was illegal and regulators fell asleep at the switch or chose to look the other way because the times were good. Also, the failure on Congress to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while employing and enriching Democrats from the Clinton administration is completely overlooked.

The bottom line here conser1 – is that Wall Street, and the financial industry in the US hasn't been operating with anything other than it's very nearsighted short term interest at heart for a very long time. You might well be safe driving 5 MPH on a starry night with nothing but your parking lights on. A decision which well could be suicidal at 100MPH.

Which is exactly what Wall Street and the Banks did.

Now this is really funny:

They do not trust the government to act responsibly and see the failure of oversight and accountability that has occurred thus far re: the bailouts and the 'stimulus' bill and they see the folly, the futility and the corruption.

Shit – this was the same anal retentive “distrust of government” which led to the massive, ill conceived deregulation of the financial industry which caused the freakin' meltdown in the first place.

I believe the robotic mind-numbing idiot savant which has become conservatism in this country that screwed the National pooch has a freakin' clue about getting the country out of the mess (they created)…

The Progressives may indeed be wrong…

But we damn well know conservatives are.

The issue now is jobs. Quite simply there are far, far more skilled people looking for work than there are jobs. At the current rate of layoffs, the number of credit defaults could jump exponentially – further burying the banks.

One of the areas I wish someone would do a study on, is whether the new “networked” way of getting jobs actually works for or against African Americans. It is my gut feel that things like video resumes and picture resumes statistically work against minority candidates – but I don't have any empirical evidence to back that up one way or another.

Ivy League education is just another RUNG in white entitlement.

What you are talking about is just the LEVELS of white entitlement. However, let's be clear…none of those rungs include black folks, you have to be white to even be in the entitlement club.

See, cause you white you don't get that…but I bet you can't name one black person at any dinner party you go to nor can you name one black person that you go to church with nor hundreds of black folks on the job you go to.

Nuh-UH…walk up in any business small or corporate and black folks look like flies in buttermilk…and you know every one of their names cause their are so few of them…AND you them by each other names.

As in their are only 2 blacks on your job that are female and you call Mary by the Leah's name and vice versa…but what you DON't do is mix up their names with anybody who is white.

Same is true for the black males on your job…you call Tyrone, Jamal and Jamal .Tyrone but you never call either one of them Paul.

It is ALL about race.

Painful but necessary and there's opportunity here for Af Americans to get in on the rebuilding of the financial as well as the physical and social infrastructure. We were shut out in previous expansions (though indirectly we were a vehicle, as in the early days of the republic there'd be no economy without us as slaves, and a commercial system deriving capital and cash therefrom).
