Michael Stephen Steele (born October 19, 1958) is an African-American politician, chairman of the Republican National Committee, bizzarro Barack Obama, former lieutenant Governor of Maryland, Fox News contributor, a giant ham, and a dick.

Steele is seemingly the next model in a recent line of inept Republican officials who have risen to power simply because they are the seen as an antidote to a major democratic candidate rather than being something unhelpful like, say, a strong advocate for their constituents positions.

Through his frequent use of "slang" and attempts to appeal to urban youth, it is unclear if Steele is actually an African-American holding a high office in the Republican Party or just trying to be what most Republicans officials imagined an African-American holding a high office in the Republican Party would look like.

In either case, Steele is ironically a poor man's Barack Obama who was created for the rich man's political party, making him like the Sharper Image of American politics.

Early life

Steele is not merely a fictional character of American Folklore, but a real person. He was born on an air force base and adopted, though these facts have further fueled the popular theory that he was genetically engineered by rogue GOP scientists.

Though Steele was raised in a minimum wage, single-parent family with democratic tendencies, Steele switched to the Republican party when he realized being a black Republican would get him way more honorary awards from the Chamber of Commerce.

Steele has said that he identified with Ronald Reagan's message of "pulling one's self up by the bootstraps." Why he was wearing strap-adorned boots in urban Maryland is still a mystery, but this belief from his youth proved early on that he was both strong-willed as well as completely unable to understand subtext.

The folks at Hays Research have been busy bees. New approval numbers for Sarah Palin came out a couple weeks ago, and I had fun crunching them. And now, there are more. Numbers are OK in isolation, but trends show the real picture. So, while someone looking to spin the numbers in the governor’s favor might point to a respectalbe 59.8% approval rating, that’s not the whole picture.

Let’s look at Palin’s approval index over time. The approval index is measured by taking the “very positive” percentage and subtracting the “very negative” percentage. Rasmussen uses the approval index to measure presidential approval in a daily poll. With the assistance of the Mudflats chart wizard “Anonymous Number Cruncher” we can enjoy the following:

I posted a while back about the strange and devolving relationship between Sarah Palin and the GOP when it comes to “making dates”. Here’s a quick recap.

First Palin says she can’t speak at the GOP winter retreat because she’s got homework in Alaska, and then shows up that same night at the Alfalfa Club Dinner across town in D.C. Then she commits to speak at the CPAC convention, confirms and then cancels. Now, she’s all set to deliver the keynote address on June 8 at the Republican Senate-House dinner, it gets announced to the press, and published in all the papers and blogs, and over the airwaves, and then. Ohhhhhh! Lucy pulls the football! Again.

Palin remained non-committal about her appearance at the Senate-House Dinner, and poor Charlie Brown was just kind of sitting on the bench, looking all dejected like he does and saying to no one in particular, “Why doesn’t she like me? Why does this always seem to happen to me?”

Well, it appears as if Charlie Brown has now picked himself up, dusted himself off, and is ready to play with someone else. Noooo, not Linus. Noooooo, not Peppermint Patty, and not the Little Red Haired Girl. It’s… Newt Gingrich?

Here is the official announcement written, undoubtedly, with white knuckles and gritted teeth.

“After initially confirming her attendance, Governor Palin’s team informed the Committees that her gubernatorial responsibilities in Alaska prevented her from committing until the end of the legislative session. We completely understand and respect Governor Palin’s focus on her official state business; however, there is obviously an enormous amount of planning that goes into this annual event. For that reason, we invited and are honored to have former Speaker Newt Gingrich join us as our speaker at the 2009 Senate-House Dinner. As one of our Party’s brightest minds and most energetic speakers, we are looking forward to having former Speaker Gingrich provide the keynote address on June 8.”

The wording is interesting because of course Palin said she never confirmed her attendance at the dinner in the first place. But the GOP (sound of grinding teeth) wants to to know that THEY were not the ones that made the embarrassing gaffe. I don’t know what the next date is going to be, but they may possibly require a confirmation written in blood.

I wonder how Newt Gingrich feels about being Charlie Brown’s rebound guy?

Republicans Disinvite Palin From Major Fundraiser, Trash Her In Private

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is out, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in as keynote speaker at a Republican dinner this spring.

Palin, the party's 2008 nominee for vice president, had been slated to address the annual Senate-House Dinner in Washington on June 8. The dinner, sponsored by the House and Senate Republican campaign committees, is one of the GOP's biggest fundraisers.

Palin will be replaced by Gingrich. Both are popular figures with the party's base.

A spokesman for the Senate GOP committee, Brian Walsh, said Palin's team informed the campaign committees that her responsibilities in Alaska prevented her from committing to the speech until the end of the legislative session.

"We completely understand and respect Governor Palin's focus on her official state business; however, there is obviously an enormous amount of planning that goes into this annual event. For that reason, we invited and are honored to have former Speaker Newt Gingrich join us as our speaker," Walsh said in an e-mail. :>)

A spokeswoman for Palin denied that she had ever confirmed her role as a speaker, even though the NRSC and the NRCC issued a joint press release two weeks ago trumpeting her appearance.

"Enthusiasm during a scheduling meeting among SarahPAC members to discuss events that we thought the governor should consider attending was misinterpreted as a confirmation of attendance," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton said in an e-mail.

A GOP official trashed Palin to Fox News and insisted that her camp wasn't telling the truth. "She was a disaster," the source said. "We had confirmation."

Palin catapulted to fame last year as Republican presidential candidate John McCain's running mate and is widely believed to be eyeing a presidential bid in 2012. The leadership committee is intended to help serve as a vehicle for Palin's political activities.

Asked about possible miscommunications between the leadership committee and the governor's office, Stapleton said: "We are always working hard to make sure the bright line exists between official and unofficial business as we respond to thousands of requests for Governor Palin's time."

Of course people are talking about Michelle Obama's choice of wardrobe for her official White House image located on the White House website. The attire while elegant, is distinctly modern and does not draw attention away from the face. Associated Press writer Caryn Rousseau reported on the photograph and commented on the first lady's choice of accessories including her jewelry and wrist watch. For the photograph, Michelle Obama chose her steel Cartier Tank Francaise - a popular Cartier Tank watch that is tasteful and luxurious without being showy - a good choice for any First Lady. The watch comes in both male and female models with various levels of gilding.

Michelle Obama's subtle yet sophisticated taste shows in her choice of wearing the undecorated version of the watch in steel, although the watch is available with gold and with diamond settings. The White House portrait of the first lady does not make the model of the watch clear, but the trained eye is easily able to pick up the recognizable timepiece. Cartier themselves expressed surprise and excitement over the picture as they had no idea she would be wearing the particular watch for the occasion.

I have a very good friend whose parents were missionaries in South America. She grew up there as the only white girl for miles. She said that as a young girl she can remember, on at least three occasions, her father had to physically come between priests and her. He came to blows with one of them.

She has often said that the scandal involving boys was just the tip of the iceberg. They didn't even want to get into priests abusing little girls or lesbian nuns, homosexual priests, etc.

I can deal with the adults being homosexual, but abusing children? Rat bastards.

that's absolutely the one i'm waiting for as well. yeah the queen is used to hosting black leaders because she hosts african heads of state all the time, but there's just something about her hosting a black man as the most powerful man in the world, it's the photo i'm waiting for. oh and i hope michelle looks fierce, i know she will.

Real Housewives" Countess Dumped By Her Count

Luann de Lesseps, the countess from "The Real Housewives of New York," is single. The 40-something American former model has been dumped via email by her 60-something husband Alex, with whom she has two kids.

Tuesday's NY Post confirms the rumors first reported Monday by New York Social Diary.

A close pal said, "They decided to separate. She got wind he was seeing somebody and he didn't answer her when she called. He finally sent her an e-mail saying he was with an Ethiopian woman in Geneva and he was serious with her."


The revelation came as a shock to the countess, who celebrated her 16th anniversary with her husband on March 16.

"Luann was blindsided. She was just devastated," the close friend told Page Six. "They have basically lived apart for many years -- he lives in Europe and comes and goes as he pleases, but she never thought this would happen.
