NEWPORT NEWS, Va., March 25, 2009 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ ----The U.S. Department of Labor has filed a lawsuit in federal district court in Newport News, alleging that former National Football League (NFL: 11.61, 0.0025, 0.02%) player Michael Vick and others violated federal employee benefits law by making a series of prohibited transfers from a pension plan sponsored by one of his companies. The department also simultaneously filed an adversary complaint in federal bankruptcy court to prevent Vick from discharging his alleged debt to the MV7 retirement plan.

MV7 was a celebrity marketing enterprise owned by Vick, who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 7, 2008. The company sponsored a defined benefit retirement plan for nine current and former employees as of October 2008.

"This action sends a message that the Labor Department will not tolerate the misuse of plan money and will take whatever steps necessary to recover the assets owed to eligible workers," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis.

The department's complaints allege that Vick violated his duties as a plan trustee under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act by making a series of prohibited transfers from the plan for his own benefit. The plan assets were partially used to help pay the criminal restitution imposed upon Vick after his conviction for unlawful dog fighting as well as his attorney in the bankruptcy cases. From March 7, 2007, through July 7, 2008, Vick made and caused $1.35 million in withdrawals from the retirement plan.

As to the Rooneys – my post clearly states that they “ARE NOT BOUND BY A PLAYER CONTRACT”.
Mr Rooney , Mr Obama's new ambassador designate to Ireland, and his family are not subject to to paragraph 15 of the standard players contract. They are not a discredit to the NFL. How their situation with the NFL will play out is anyones guess. The team is worth 900 million to 1.2 billion or so and no one has been able to come up with the money to buy out the brothers. But the NFL is making an attempt to push them out of ownership based on their gambling interests.

Msmartin it was a pure hatred, plain and simple…..my DADDY said they lynched that boy…my UNCLE said they lynched that boy- and they aren't in Atlanta but I am and saw up close and personal a frightening thing happen. I have a lot of friends that USED to be season ticket holders – they have vowed NEVER to step foot in the Dome again unless a hurricane comes thru. Till this day I pray for the morning I wake up and hear on my radio that the AJC has gone completely under. I hope for it EVERYDAY. The media completely lost all credibility with me forEVER – so I was mad before I even started paying attention to the primaries. I am so done with the mainstream press and that half-azz biased reporting. I wish I could find the column I read back before the indictment, it was by Desi Cortez on blackathlete.com – I think the title was “Get Ya Ropes Boys, there's gonna be a hangin” – but I can't find it now. It was so on point about the whole thing.
