We are taught about the police as children – the reality is quite different than what’s in the kiddie books.

When an NFL player and his wife are racing to the hospital because they were notified that their relative is dying, the brotha gets stopped by the Po-Po and explained why they were speeding.

The Po-Po thought he’d be a badass.  But the police vehicle video caught him looking like a JACKASS, and the Dallas PD has had to put him on ice:

DALLAS (AP)—A police officer was placed on administrative leave Thursday over a traffic stop involving an NFL player whom he kept in a hospital parking lot and threatened to arrest while his mother-in-law died inside the building.

Officer Robert Powell also drew his gun during the March 18 incident involving Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats in the Dallas suburb of Plano, police said.

“I can screw you over,” he said at one point in the videotaped incident. When another officer came with word that Moats’ mother-in-law was indeed dying, Powell’s response was: “All right. I’m almost done.”

Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle apologized to the family and announced that Powell would be on paid leave pending an internal investigation.

Even Powell’s bosses are saying he screwed the hell up.

“When we at the command staff reviewed the tape, we were embarrassed, disappointed,” Kunkle said. “It’s hard to find the right word and still be professional in my role as the police chief. But the behavior was not appropriate.”

When the po-po gun us down in cold blood and say we made a “threatening” move; when the po-po stop us because we drive nice cars and they think we don’t do legit work to earn the salary that affords that car; when they pull us over and take our shyt – it is any wonder that POC do not have good relationships with the police?

The irony is that Ryan Moats had witnesses who said he cooperated with da law, and got held up getting that ticket and a lecture from Officer Trigger-Happy.  Even after hospital officials, hospital security guards, and ANOTHER DALLAS POLICE OFFICER came out and cleared Moats, the asshole Powell decided Moats not only needed a ticket, but to be PUT IN HIS PLACE.

Lawsuits may not bring back Moats’ mother-in-law, but a big pay out, plus this jackass losing his damned job for trying to be Dirty Harry will go a long way in easing grief.

At least the Dallas Po-Po had the common sense to dismiss that ticket Powell insisted on giving Moats.  And they KNOW his behavior just delivered another black eye in public relations, but if someone tells you that you have a dying relative, you don’t give them a ticket and threaten them.

You apologize and offer them the police escort.  Something that I think Powell missed the day he decided to cut that class in compassion and humanity in serving the public.
