I would love to see someone like Dr. Ben Carson (he's a pediatric neurosurgeon and the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, for those who've never heard of him) have the chance to speak at the White House to a group of students, particularly Black males.

he has some disability. You can tell when he tried to talk to her. But she was patient and was able to decipher some of what he was saying. But he had a disability.

I saw some other photos with another article and he had a grin on his face as he hung it low…the article noted that he was shy….that was actually the impression I got from the pic….its rather sweet – he all shame-faced (as we used to say..lol)

Going outside of DC MN Gophers Basketball Coach Tubby Smith is an excellent role model.. This guy just loves his players and looks out for their education. Just a thought.

Ya know! Look (and I know you are gonna cut me for saying this hahaha) things are so hopeless and jacked up in terms of infrastructure and in some young boys' heads that I'd even welcome your Sith Lord, Count Harold, rolling up and talking to these boys. I know, I know…bad idea? But when the boat's sinking, you need to even make rafts out of toilet seats!!! That's as good a metaphor as I can find.

When I looked at the clip of her with the students yesterday, the reality really hit me that Michelle Obama knows who she is. She really feels obligated to use the power of her office and husbands election to uplift whole generations who never thought this would happen. She is a part of the greater community, particularly with her husband, but she makes no beans nor offers excuses about her real purpose which is to inspire AAs. I guess if she had just sat in the White House twiddling her thumbs like Laura or just presented herself as a “trophy” wife we would have accepted that because that's all we have ever known. But she has made it her business to use the power of her office to INSPIRE. It just doesn't get any better than this. She has raised the bar so high for any FLOTUS to follow.

Let's hope she begins to address the third world AIDS epidemic going on in DC.

I think you make a good and very thoughtful point. I have a feeling something like the visit you mentioned may be on the agenda and I know he could squeeze it in (somehow). There should be room for both Obamas to reach out to young people – it doesn't have to be either/or.

Right after he deals with the workload on his desk. He sometimes attends schools with Michelle but realistically he does not have the time right now to do the things Michelle is doing. I am sure she will find opportunities (after Women's history month) to bring some of these young men into the White House. I wouldn't worry too much on that. It will happen.

Nothing wrong with your sentiment. But . . . what she is doing is important and is way overdue. Too many of our young girls (especially in the Washington metropolitan area) don't strive high enough. Don't think they can achieve more . . .Young girls need her and I am glad she is doing it.

It really would be insane. The folks they could corral. ESPECIALLY IN DC. Wouldn't even have to ask many folks outside of DC. A few stars. The only current athlete I would want is Myron Rolle. I would want Alan Page too.

But Jesus, can we maybe get Barack and some dudes up in these places? He's the only one who could quell the egos and scheduling drama and get these men connected to these boys and teens. Imagine the photo ops then!
