Baratunde: WHEW!! I'm NOT feelin' that he fully “GETS IT!!”

Now, right now I have ta “bounce” again. Sooo, I'll come back 2 this!

Basically, while appreciatin' his “offer”, He's NOT the one 2 “ref!”

rikyrah, Cenk didn't get squat. Aint nothing to referee here, cause we're not taking no crap.

Baratunde: O.K. A few thoughts:

1. The “name of the GAME” for a REFEREE is that the are EXPERTS on the GAME!!

THAT's what gives them CREDIBILITY!!

E.g., A FOOTBALL REF. CAIN'T ref. a BASKETBALL GAME. [ even though lotsa Black folks play in BOTH GAMES! :>)]

2. He stated that he was “neither Black nor White!”

BUT how do people “SEE” him?? Let's say that he doesn't tell them his background. He will NOT be SEEN as “race-neutral!” TRUST!! He will be codified into some ethnic category. Then the “hmmm” mantra will creep in. Annnnnd, people will “axe” “Who is he and which “SIDE” is he on??”

IMHO, this is a natural “response” when U R engaged in such a sensitive issue!

Heck! Look how the SOBU is viewed. We start pickin' out those who R “down 4 the culture” vs those who R “marginal.” It's natural to want 2 see “your side/opinion” represented. Nothin' wrong with that.

I posted an experience that I had with a “brotha” who was sent in 2 our school district in order to “investigate” racial tension. White folks “opened up” to him and called US all manner of “OUT- OUR -NAMES!” They di 'n't KNOW that he was a “brotha!” :>) :>)

Back 2 the point: It ain't that easy to B a CREDITABLE REF!

3. I kinda thought that the discussion was being “elevated” beyond the “cartoon”. You CLEARLY DID THAT! Thank U!

Soooooo, NOW, WHAT IS THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION? WHAT WILL B the SUBJECT for the REFEREEING??

Are we gonna subject STATEMENTS to the SCRUTINY of the “RACE REFEREE??”

IFFF so, then we are BACK to the BONDAGE of the word – — – -”QUESTIONABLE!”

Don't call it RACIST – FIRST!! Wait 'til the “R.R” can DEMONSTRATE that it IS.

Annnnnd, 2 the OTHER side – - – don't do any sensitivity training UNTIL the R.R. EXPLAINS 2 U that U made a “RACIST” STATEMENT.

4. His statement: The more people that we can educate – - the better off we'll ALL B.
