Less cool is that Fletcher used his question to ask about A-Rod’s drug use. This was a primetime press conference about the economic stimulus package and the crisis it is designed to ameliorate. I do not care about A-Rod or baseball right now and Fletcher didn’t represent. As a people, we are as engaged as any other American in this conversation and frankly are hit harder than other demographics by some of the trends. So that was an eye-rolling disappointment for me at least.–

I thought the mofo who asked the A-Rod question was BEYOND trifing. Unless it was Wilbon or Kornheiser, A-Rod shouldn't have come across his lips.

Black folk have unemployment at twice the national average. We have lost how much community wealth because of this mortgage crisis...and this mofo asks about A-Rod?

He should never be called on again, and Gibbs should call up his paper and tell them that.

I wouldn't gauge the Black Press by the trivial question posed by Michael Fletcher. There are plenty of Black journalists just aching for the opportunity to cover the White House.

I saw that question from the “Black Press”. If all a Brotha could do when his number was called by a Black President was ask about A-Rod, then he needs to sit down and shut up. How 'bout some of these “Black Press” fols steppin' their game up.

We can't treat The President and First Lady like they need to “hook us up.” It's ain't that kind of party. So, “Black Press”, put up or shut up. The President doesn't owe you a daggone thing.

Jill, I'm gonna disagree in part. Yes, the Washington Times could care less about fair or unfair treatment of the Black press. But ...

There's a reasonable expectation for PBO to know that Black journalists have always stood ready, willing and able to do their jobs in covering the White House. And with Presidential patronage of their journalistic works being long overdue, all that was necessary was for PBO to do what no other presidents have done: treat Black journalists just as he would any other journalist of import.

There's a fine line between expecting Black folk to go along and play the "neutral" role, and taking Black folk for granted. And this is an instance where PBO is dangerously close to crossing the line toward the latter.

I, for one, expect more of him in this regard.
