While “The Nation” is indeed a proper noun, I think Sepia was looking for the names of actual PEOPLE that you think should be considered for various appointments. Again, if I misunderstood Sepia, she will correct me.

I take it you've never seen a white person's verion of Macaroni & Cheese (they think what Kraft puts in that blue box is enough). You know we don't roll like that. BlLOCKS of cheese and butter be sitting there just WAITING to go on the macaroni! LOL

This is neat. I love the visual of those kids going home to tell their parents that they got to meet the President and First Lady today. MSNBC showed a clip earlier today.

Obama Makes Surprise Trip to Read to Children

As a sense of crisis engulfed his White House Tuesday with the withdrawal of former senator Tom Daschle as HHS Secretary-nominee, President Obama made an unannounced trip to a school to read to kids.

His motorcade was seen heading north on 15th Street, and local sources soon reported he was at The Capital City Public Charter School. There was no mention of a trip on the schedule sent out to reporters the previous day.

At the school, the president and Michelle Obama read to a group of second-graders in the school library from a picture book entitled “The Moon over Star,” an account of the first moon landing in July of 1969. An Associated Press report from the scene said that Obama told the students, “We were just tired of being in the White House.”

Principal Janine Gomez said that she learned yesterday from the White House that the president would be coming to visit the school at 15th and Irving Streets NW. “I thought about all of the struggles that my ancestors have gone through before we had equal rights,” she said of his visit. “I saw two worlds coming together.”

Obama was greeted at the front door of Capital City by 11-year-old Sam Sherman and 10-year-old Karen Tchemi of Northeast Washington. Said Sherman of the visit, “Words can't explain.”

Tchemi, perhaps influenced by a recent fifth-grade lesson about voting rights in the District, said she used her conversation with the president to push the case for D.C. statehood. “I made the case to him for D.C. voting rights,” she said.

“This is a moment that they will remember for the rest of their lives,” said fifth-grade teacher Wanda Gregory, who had been teaching Tchemi about the District's plight.

Leensa Fufa, 27, a second-grade teacher at the school whose students were among the 25 who got a chance to listen to Obama read, said, “It was a great honor for the president and the first lady to take time out of their busy schedule to recognize the work that we do here.”

In addition to reading to the second-graders, Obama walked through parts of the school that opened in 2000, according Karen Dresden, the head of the Capital City Public Charter School.

I like their spontaneity. I know it gives the SS fits, but that's their job. I think these kinds of impromptu trips will do much for their “sanity.” Gold Fish Bowl indeed.

I understand that you want criticism to be constructive so I'll try and help out here. C Everett Koop for a start comes to mind and I would defintely ask him whom he would want if he doesn't want the job.

The problems w/ President's Obama's choice's are twofold. the economic crisis which is the highest priority is taking up all the political operators time. Two, many of the people in the vetting process either didn't do their job, missed the tax issuesand/or the candidates hid the facts and/or the candidates took President Obama's call for full disclosure as DC disclosure-you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.
Last and most important the whole country IMO is receiving a lesson in institutional racism. W/ these candidates it means a recognition that being on an AfricanAmericans team means you are held to a different level of scrutiny. Ask any AfricanAmerican how many times they have had someone Caucasian/Jewish/Hispanic run behind their back to influence how that AfricanAmerican treats them. It's I am on your team temporarily. If that AfricanAmerican calls them out on their behavior they call you sensitive, bitch, overbearing and/or have anger management issues.
So now having a African American President putting together a team, the pulling apart of it is being done by managers(Senators and House Rep) hostile to his success not only as another manger but for racial issues as well.

The Governator needs to come up out of his shell and denounce all these Republican congressional people. The State of California, the eigth largest economy in the world, just had it's credit rating reduced to C. That makes it the lowest of 50, it was ahead of Louisiana till no. if they were a sovereign country it could apply to the IMF for money.
