The Stock market was a very good place to earn money over the long run until Bush II came to power. If anyone in your family receives a pension most of that money was in the stock market.
One of the repulsive thing about the 80's was the takeover's of companies. At that time company pensions were in the stock market. ERISA laws allowed the companies to have excess money in the market. Most did so because they understood the stock market did not provide positive returns or enough return to pay their obligations every year. The year IRA's came along the rules were changed so that money was considered the companies assets not a liability for pensions. That pension money was used by Carl Icahn and all the other raiders of the day to be used to take over companies in the name of efficiency. Corporations then began to not contribute to pensions so the management could not be ousted w/ its own money. It was one more attack on the middle class by the Republican and Democratic Parties.

The Clintons need to STFU and not give interviews about policy period. Even Bush's father kept his mouth shut thtough he did say they had to keep Barbara on a short leash.

There's a church in MD that pulls those same stunts. Westminster Baptist, I believe…though don't quote the name.

Did a couple of protests against those fools while I lived in DC with-wait for it-Free Republic. Good times.

Keep talking about those churches, though. I'll carry your displeasure with me next time I'm up there.

There is some truth in your statement
What made CNBC is they bought the original financial station FNN. The had a guy named Dan Dorfman whom came on around noon. He would say I am being told that Salomon Brothers is buying GE. GE would race up in price as day traders sought to take advantage of the news. While never indicted for fraud or conspiracy he was fired from Fortune magazine after they questioned his sources.
His actions made all the exchanges provide Cable TV to all the traders so they wouldn't get blindsided.

Rocky Mountain News to close, publish final edition Friday

The Rocky Mountain News publishes its last paper tomorrow.

Rich Boehne, chief executive officer of Rocky-owner Scripps, broke the news to the staff at noon today, ending nearly three months of speculation over the paper's future.

“People are in grief,” Editor John Temple said at a news conference later.

Boehne told staffers that the Rocky was the victim of a terrible economy and an upheaval in the newspaper industry.

“Denver can't support two newspapers any longer,” Boehne told staffers, some of whom cried at the news. “It's certainly not good news for you, and it's certainly not good news for Denver.”

On Dec. 4, Boehne announced that Scripps was looking for a buyer for the Rocky and its 50 percent interest in the Denver Newspaper Agency, the company that handles business matters for the papers. The move came because of financial losses in Denver, including $16 million in 2008.

“This moment is nothing like any experience any of us have had,” Boehne said. “The industry is in serious, serious trouble.”
