These are very important, if Romney can't bring along Rs, what good is he? There are lots of Govs with experience getting health care passed in various forms– and actually having to manage the system — and can therefore credibly argue positions.

There are lots of good managers — the largest thing he managed was the governorship of MA to which he only worked 2.5 years — then seceded the work to his Lt. Gov while Romney traveled around the country in his long failed presidential bid. Oh yeah, he had so blown his reputation in MA he did not even campaign for his Lt. Govs campaign for Gov.

As a result, President Obama would also be foolish to trust Romney in the position.

For commerce, it really doesn't matter it is a throw-away position.
I have no problems with Harold Ford or any other centrist Democrat. I wouldn't waste any good political Democratic talent on the position unless it would help them move from the House or the Gov to the senate — It might also be good to have someone from the South AR, VA, NC, GA

I think you are pushing Romney b/c of his recent campaign (spectaculary unsuccessful) run– but compared to other folks he's pretty average in the political sphere.

Individuals in the cabinet are NOT running for votes. So, why you continue to stress his electoral strength is beyond me.

As far as your co-opting assertion, I need not co-opt anything. Your posture is all about his electoral strength and what you believe to be 'financial engineering'. A good manager's most essential skill are being able to identify task, provide analysis and delegate for execution. Typically, called executive skills. Romney has all that.

GOP folks with money & influence like Romney a lot, maybe not the social values crowd but then they are not the wheels of commerce. So, again. Romney brings what is needed to the table.

Passing the legislation is THE BIGGEST deal. Without it passing execution is a non-starter.

In short, PPP again, you agree with me on what is important about Romney. Your focus on electoral strength, financial engineering and challenges of MA healthcare are not GERMANE to the task he would have.

All of those do not take away from his very real strengths to get the job done.

Romney is good at what he does and that is being a smart businessman. Which is what commerce Sec needs and he also has the political skills with the powerful healthcare lobby to get that legislation passed as he did so in MA. He had to meet with the healthcare folks in MA and he either outmanuevered them or used his business acumen to sway them to his side.

I am open to listening to you present someone who you think would be stronger at these cabinet positions…who would you nominate?

I'll repeat the most important pieces:
1.) PE skill (financial engineering) is not operational skill. (think elections which Romney has proven his ineptness).
2.) Romney is unskilled at political positioning. (necessary to sell programs to public and private demographic groups).
3.) Contrary to your Romney haiography he did not do a good job at health care in MA, and MA is the one of the most liberal states in the Union..so passing the legislation is not a big deal — implementing the program is, which Romney did not have to do. As a result that UNDERCUTS your purpose of having Romney.
4.) Further you have yet to explain the fact that Romney ran away from his own health care plan in MA — saying numerous times it would not work for the U.S..(As I said, Deval Ptrick is busy trying to fix the program in MA).

As a result you are asking Romney to do a flip (wants universal style health care) — flop (does not want universal care in his run for president) — flip (back to endorsing )

His election strength is relevant, as Romney still has his PAC going, since he still intends to be active in politics (as a conservative) do you think he'd be a good advocate? Given his standing, a success would ensure his failure as a “conservative.”

Bottomline Romney has zero credibility with Ds and Rs on the issue.

As a result politicaly there are stronger people (the can be political advocates, and biz advocates) and operationally there are better people.
