I'm not saying that means you can't criticize him. But not about most of the things related to this. Because nothing has changed about Barack Obama that would have made this money quote any less true today than it was on August 1 except that he wasn't president yet.

Barack Obama is the first president I've ever voted for.

We have choices. I never could cast a vote for anybody else because I thought they were full of shit and it didn't matter all that much who would be in power.

Whatever one loves or hates about our newest and best president, he's not full of shit. He told you exactly who he was. You know the context within which he's working.

It's pretty ugly.

But he hasn't changed.

And I'm happy it's him and not John McCain, who's not only pro-war, but reckless, too. Dangerous combination.

That's why I voted for a president for the first time.

The choice was too clear, the times far too important.

I'm anti-war, but I also understand no American president can be anything but pro-war.

I accept that ugliness and go from there.

But President Obama made it crystal clear, to me at least, on more than one occasion that he was going to drop bombs on Pakistani civilians and Afghani civilians and you voted for him anyway.

How many people didn't hear him say that he wanted to rev up the war in Afghanistan? Seems like a lot. Sure the Iraq war is most unpopular and his stance on that seemed to drown out his stance on Afghanistan. But his rhetoric on Afghanistan and Pakistan pleased many hawks even as the doves ate up his rhetoric on Iraq. You see how the Pentagon is already pressuring Barack on Iraq , don't you? If Barack wants to stay alive then Iraq will have to stay alive.

Ugly but true.

I told someone the other day that Obama is pro-war. They looked at me as though I had peanut butter smeared all over my face.

I defended Obama tooth and nail, but I was never deluded by his foreign policy stances.

Well, okay. Only to the extent that I never thought he'd actually appoint a neocon to be Secretary of State.

As somebody who I respect and admire, and whose writing moves me to tears, I am saying that dropping bombs on Pakistani civilians–women and children, is not “Change We Can Believe In.” Just push my Black Nationalist rhetoric aside for a moment and deal with that. I voted for the President because there was no alternative. I want to believe in him. But dropping bombs on innocents is what bad actors like the current Israeli government rationalizes away. This Admin is supposed to be better than that. I cannot make excuses for that because our president looks like me.
