I saw the movie Australia yesterday with two3 friends. Two white and one black.

Our views where totally different from our white bretheran. Nicole Kidman swoops in to the land down under and saves the little "Creamies" mixed child of aboriginie and white blood. Basically the kid is BLACK. All I could hear was "Ah, ooh, aren't they sweet." when she saves the little black boy.

Bottom line she wants to adopt him., but his wise black grandfather comes to take him on a "Walk-about." In the Aborigine culutre, a walk about is a rite of passage for the male, an initiation.

But missy Kidman's character doesn't want to give the boy up. that's all well and good. she's got a heart and that's a start. the boys mother drowned while hiding out with him from white men who wanted to take her son.

All through the movie you get to witness this incredible bond between the boy and Kidman. In the end, the boy elects to go with this grandfather on the walk-about.

We went for tea and discussion after the movie. I said the best part of the movie was the end, when the boy chose to go with his grandfather.

My white buddies said their was the saving of the little boy by missy. I cried when his mother drowned saving her son. They on the other hand knew missy would step in, so no problem there. We all expressd emotions, but for different circumstances. Niether of us wrong or right for our reasons. We acknowledged and honored the others view.

See they had emotion and heart, but it was for missy in the saving boy. I explained that the little boy wouldn't need saving if whites didn't come in and forcefully abduct the children and assimilate them into their way of life. They were treated as property because they weren't white.

Futher discussion revealed that my two white buddies hadn't realized the importance of the boy being with his people his culture, his god given telepathic powers to retain his true wholeness.

It was just peachy for the white woman to come in and indoctrinate the boy into english culture. Because that's what missy wanted to make her feel needed and loved.
This is more than about missy, and the little boy, this is about a whole nation of people.

Here is an instance where we had frank and honest discussion. No brow beating, no making anyone feel guilty, just laying out how we felt and what we thought. But we had to express how we FELT first. Emotions are critical in matters of race. It might be anger, disbelief, grief, sorrow, fear, whatever, but they need to be processed and released.

You can't ratiionalize race, color, bigotry away.

whtierosebuddy, I understand exactly how you FEEL.

I saw the movie Australia yesterday with two3 friends. Two white and one black.

Our views where totally different from our white bretheran. Nicole Kidman swoops in to the land down under and saves the little “Creamies” mixed child of aboriginie and white blood. Basically the kid is BLACK. All I could hear was “Ah, ooh, aren't they sweet.” when she saves the little black boy.

Bottom line she wants to adopt him., but his wise black grandfather comes to take him on a “Walk-about.” In the Aborigine culutre, a walk about is a rite of passage for the male, an initiation.
