Judd Gregg Withdraws as Commerce Secretary

Just saw this on MSNBC.

Our dear NMP puts it this way:

I luv ya’ but I hoping that this would be the one place this wasn’t being made a big deal. I hope Bill Maher’s first “new rule” is that unless someone can tell me what the hell a Commerce Secretary does, stop talking about it. Really, just leave the position vacant and dissolve on its own.

The reason why the Commerce Secretary is important this time, is because of the 2010 Census. Getting folks accurately counted, and holding onto Black political representation – through Congressional Districts – is important to me. That’s why I thought it was a positive to see The Census moved into The White House.

Also, the Commerce Secretary also holds the office of the SBA, if I’m thinking correctly. And, if there’s anything Black folk need, it’s more businesses in the community.

So, that’s why I think the Commerce Secretary is still needed.

I’m not sad about Gregg leaving. I believe there has to be a business-minded Democrat, interested in improving AMERICAN Businesses, that could be chosen.

I disagree. Joke or no-jury's still out on that one-the statement set a
nasty tone. If nothing else, it looks bad, reads wrong, and sounds even
worse. If I was in on that meeting, that would've been it for me.
And actually, the numbers on the “stimulus” approval are slipping…..
This will either go over great for us next year in the midterms, or be the
quintessential “When 'Keepin' It Real' Goes Wrong” moment.

It's way too late at night to have the “permanent campaign” discussion, even
though that's exactly what this is.
You really think that Pres. Obama couldn't have picked up the phone and
said, “look, at least hear them out?” It's not about dictating working
terms, it's about getting to what he said he wanted.
I'm still reading through it (well, not at present), but the bill as it
currently stands may (and I mean MAY) be something I can live with (not that
I have any real choice).
And yeah, there is the $30 million mouse. But let's be honest: how many
things did the left complain about in Bush's post-Katrina budgets? Those
kind of things are all turnabout at this point, so I mostly ignore them. I
think we'd all be well served by doing the same.

The president is the decider. That's a factual statement, and Bush stuck by
it, come hell or….yeah.

this show of bipartisanship just because the Thr33 Rings have his back on
this bill.
That's my point. Since he and his party did win, and will trump us, stop
acting like you need us to cosign your every decision. You have the
majority; own your successes and your failures as they come. Do exactly what

Of course it is a permanent campaign — that's what people mean by the President's “Bully Pulpit”, and Truman's adage “the buck stops here.”
Tthat's what being in the House of representatives is as well, your ideas better be well thought out and work — you are going to be held accountable in 2 years. However, when you get down to the “rump” of the party, they are in safe conservative seats and have no reason to actually worry about being effective.
Hence, GOP obstructionism — but a lot of Goppers can't afford to do that vote in vote out.
Obama listened to the Republican House personally AND he's already met with the Republican House MORE times than Bush did in 8 years. People beg for face time with the president … Cantor & Co. came out with “tax cuts,” when 1/3 of the package was tax cuts.
So, saying Obama did not give House Rs a chance is ridiculous. You are saying, House Rs rather meet with Pelosi than Obama? GTFO lol.

And what I actually said was that I ignore stories like the mouse one.
Criticisms like that don't carry much weight with me. If they did, I
could've invoked a story from a few weeks ago that suggested that Obama
didn't care about white people (the ones in KY affected by the winter storm)
because he didn't send FEMA immediately their way. It's all become too

Reid has to comprimise to get to 60, In the House there is no such thing as a fillibuster– so Pelosi can be the heavy and overshoot on negotiations. (I would think this would be obvious given the structure).
Obama has the “bully pulpit” but that's to the public, not legislatively. Legislatively the Speaker, b/c of House rules is extremely powerful. Obama can help Reid to get the 1 or more vote as soon as Franken is seated from here on out.
Strategically, Pelosi can afford to take the negatives, and hammer on Rs
