Bulls' surreal start: Obama delays start

WASHINGTON — The start of the Wizards-Bulls game got delayed several minutes as President Barack Obama's motorcade arrived and he and his staff entered the building. Fans streamed towards the railings surrounding the tunnel from which Obama entered to a standing ovation. Players on the court stopped and clapped as they waited for the opening tip.

Obama sat courtside, much to the likely dismay of Secret Service agents, and could be seen smiling and chatting amiably with fans. Plans call for him to move to a luxury suite for the second half.

The security in the building is incredible, of course. To enter, reporters had to be scanned with a hand wand, walk through a metal detector and have their bags sniffed by bomb-sniffing dogs and hand-inspected by Secret Service agents.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama sat courtside at a basketball game Friday between his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls, and the Washington Wizards.

As Obama arrived at the Verizon Center, fans and the players applauded him. Obama chose a corner chair to sit with some old friends from Chicago and shook hands with fans sitting behind him.

The game was delayed slightly as officials waited for his entrance.

Obama had already welcomed the Bulls into town Thursday, when the team visited him at the White House and presented him with a jersey.

White House senior adviser David Axelrod also attended Friday's game.
