I think everyone here is forgetting a very important fact that the people of Palestine are under occupation and therefore, they must free themselves from it. The Palestinians didn't asked to be occupied and must fight for their freedom. I just wonder if someone occupied your country, killed your children, starved you to death, what would you do? The memory of 9/11 is still fresh in our minds whereby the U.S. was attacked. What did they do? how many wars did the U.S. started in reaction to 9/11. Why is it ok for rich or powerful countries to defend themselves and it is not ok for the palestinian to fight for their land?
Additionally, I think the U.S. foreign policy is full of B.S., on one hand we hear U.S. politicians talk about spreading freedom and protecting human rights around the world but when it comes to poor countries and the palestinians, who give a damn. Your media led us to believe that the U.S. is a shining beacon for freedom, equality, human dignity, but unfortunately, if doesn't serve the strategic interest of the U.S., these issues do not apply. Shame on America, shame on Israel, and shame on the what is called the CIVILIZED world.

Children are dying.
Sod your intellectualising. Where is your humanity. In my lifetime Israel will fall. Hubris kicks in.
I don't want it to happen. But there is an inevitability when the aggressor behaves inhumanely.

I think you're confusing Palastine with Hamas's military wing, which I suppose is easy for someone as obviously ingnorant and arrogant as you. On your question: it's far too ambiguous - you are mixing up the 'views' of governments and the peoples of countries. Also, countries don't have goals, so please reply when you have something intelligent to say.

This is all so simple:

1. The goal of Israel = to live and prosper
2. The goal of Palestine = to die killing jews

Who is to blame here?

As a Jew, I am horrified by the actions of the Israeli army ... The Jewish people have been persecuted in the past ... we cannot treat others this way .... killing civilians and children destroys the soul of our people. Many Israelis and Palestinians agree that peace is the way forward.

There is a great group called The Parents Circle -- made of Israelis and Palestinians who have lost loved-ones in the conflict, and are standing for peace. As bereaved family-members, they are calling for an end to violence on both sides. You can learn about them here: http://www.theparentscircle.com/

Let's pray that this circle of violence stops soon!!!

These bombs are so antiquated they rarely even go off. (not that that makes it right for them to be fired but Israels response is disgustingly over the top, I believe if they thought they could get away with it they would just Nuke Palastine off the map)

Everyone knows Israeli leaders are only doing this so the could kill a lot of Palastinians while Bush was still in office "hoping" that they could garner support and control some media with the help of their buddy Bush.

That is definitely an interesting article. It's true, propaganda is a very powerful tool. It becomes more and more difficult to sort out which sources to trust and which not to.

After reading I noticed that it had been translated from English, so I found the link to the English version for anyone interested:

http://www.avnery-news.co.il/english/index.html

I second you. Israel is doing many, many things wrong, but Hamas strategically places their weapons and themselves in schools and hospitals and use women and children as shields because they know that when Israel attacks and children die, Hamas will gain favor in the world (ironically, favor from the Western world, which they hate so fiercely).

It takes two to tango and neither Hamas nor Israel are doing a very good job of attempting to create peace in the region. Both deserve criticism.

I posted this earlier, I will again:

George Bisharat: Israel is committing war crimes.

I don't like Hamas or Fatah for that matter. The question remains, however, why is Hamas lobbing rockets into Israel?

Because of Israel's continuing blockade of the Gaza Strip. And the closing of the Egyptian border (@ Israel's design) so that the civilians have no place to go.

i have two friends from palestine, both participated in the first intifada, and neither support either hamas or fatah. the personal stories they tell about checkpoints, lack of water (controlled by israel), the purposeful and hateful destruction and/or lack of access to family olive trees that are culturally linked to those families over generations and have deep emotional meaning, the strangling of education, members of the same family who live in neighboring towns and can't get to see each other for years because of barriers and travel restrictions, women giving birth who can't get to hospitals. these were all personal stories they told me about their own families. and even here, one of the women hosted talks between her palestinian friends and conservative jewish folks to try to do something toward peace.

this is a deep issue and from the many personal conversations and events i have attended on both sides of this issue, i got the sense that most palestinians long for peace and are against palestinian violence but the media doesn't cover their efforts at peace. and that most israelis are not in favor of the occupation and the degradation their government imposes on palestinians but their point of view is also only marginally covered by the media. the people's feelings need to be lifted up more, rather than those of the extreme elements of government which don't reflect the hearts and minds of the people.

i thought ta nehisi coates had a very thoughtful commentary today on this topic.
http://ta-nehisicoates.theatlantic.com/archives...

and please pray for my friend anan who went to visit her mother in palestine months ago and work on her research with women and still cannot get approval to return. i worry so much about her safety. tomorrow i will post one of the poems she wrote and selfpublished in a small book at our community technology center.
