When people say a "connection to the community" or something, what are you talking about? Old style black pols like Rush, Burris, Jones and even Jackson Jr. (to a lesser extent) who have plenty of "connection to the community" ie. the political community and its machine. Or people like Donna Edwards, Obama, Deval Patrick who have a connection to the wider community ie regular people? If people want a black, or gasp since this was implied to be so bad (by the way that's snark to the annoying critical tone of Dan Seals), a half-black Senator than they ought to go with the later. Now I don't think that person is Dan Seals, who, I'd agree as a two-time loser obviously doesn't have a whole lot of electability. But still, I'm sure there's some sort of a businessperson and or activist and or state legislator etc out there who is qualified and not part of the old boys (cause they usually are) club, ie. part of the later group. Sorry, I don't think that's Jackson Jr., or even Burris who has acted foolish during this. Granted not as foolish as Reid, but still, pretty ridiculous.

This isn't registering over at Daily Kos. This is one of those inconvenient facts that blows a hole in their narrative about this being about "taint".

What this really shows is that Reid and Democratic leaders were trying use extortion in order to subvert Governor Blagojevich's appointment authority. In other words, the "clean" folks were trying to blackmail the alleged dirty guy into not appointing African-American candidates , and if he did, they would not seat that person. Blago called their bluff and now we have a mess to start off the Obama era.

I hope this doesn't turn into an event that sidetracks or derails the agenda Obama and the Democrats were elected to enact. Self-inflicted wounds are a sign of incompetence.

"from but so far you are wrong down to the color of my skin."

I said I never doubted that you're black...remember? Are you saying you're not black, now?

This is such BS. It's like saying that someone who accepts a promotion is automatically "tainted" if his/her boss is a corrupt bastard.

Stop with the self-righteous, moralistic BS about who is and isn't "honorable". You and others have purely political reasons for not wanting to see Burris in that seat, and there's nothing wrong with that, in and of itself. Be honest and talk about those political reasons, because you know damn well that if Blago had appointed someone who you think is electable statewide, you would have no problem at all with who appointed that person. Stop bullshitting.

wrong and wrong and wrong on all ur points.

Anyone Blago appoints should not be seated. period. Let there be an election if the State can afford it and let the chips fall where they may. Put it in the people's hands.

if State cannot afford it then impeach the bastard and let the Lt gov appoint someone to be a place holder. If Burris had refused Blago and then come out at a presser to announce his refusal with an explanation of why he refused re: tainted appointment only then would he have the cred. This would have gone a long way to healing the situation and helping him to put his face out there in a positive light instead of in a cloud.

So I do not know where you get your insight about my thoughts from but so far you are wrong down to the color of my skin. Good causes bring good effects and bad bring bad. This is the unassailable law of the universe.

Nothing good can come from Blago or anything he touches and Burris is tainted and under a cloud. Dems in Illinois tried to be too cute by far and now have created a monster. Now they should let to and let God. Put the thing in the hands of the people or impeach and be done with it and move on already.

By the no one in their right mind would have touched this and this says alot about Burris. Once again I would feel the same way regardless of gender, class, race etc etc

Hold on, now- in this comment, you're all about the "electability" argument, as if that's the only thing you're factoring in. As if you just think that Blago appointed the wrong person because he's "unelectable", but you don't have a problem with him appointing someone. But earlier you said...

"All this talk about Burris being honorable is a bunch of bunk. Look at his actions. Are these actions of an honorable man."

If you strongly feel that anyone who would accept an appointment from Blago is less than honorable, what's the point of going further to make any other arguments? Evidently you just think that any candidate you feel is "unelectable" is dishonorable if he/she accepts the Senate appointment from Blago. If it had been someone you deem "electable", then you wouldn't have a problem with them accepting the appointment from Blago, right?

Cool your jets. Obama has a right to express interest in who will replace him. Blagojevich was also getting phone calls from Durbin. That's customary. There's nothing unusual about all these contacts. Reading that article, one can tell that they were working off of that list provided by Obama because all those names appear in that list.

Is Obama the governor of Illinois?

No, Rod Blagojevich is, and HE and only HE has the executive authority to appoint people.

You need to run back to Daily Kos and get your A-game straight before trying to tangle with me on this one.

obama had his probs with all communities including ours. In this poll Jesse has 81% black support. Obama had to fight to just get us to look at him. So to me your point is moot because apples and oranges saying applies. Blacks did not think Obama could win until he won Iowa looks like they think Jesse could win rite now but his name alone will drag him down with the rest of the country. Hey, he could run if he wants but I just think he is not a good candidate for full state election. Just my opinion. Can agree to disagree with you on this one. You obviously are not going to change your perspective and I for sure am not going to change mine. sigh. Mosely Braun did not have Jesse's lugguage either. Jackson name will not help him Statewide.

Get 'em , girlfriend! Newsom talking outta both sides of his neck, and as a result, San Francisco's about to lose that "Liberal" label she has worn for decades, thanks to Pelosi and her bullshyt.

I hope Cindy Sheehan is regrouping to challenge her ass in 2010; I'll come home to wear out shoe leather for that.

And why roll over on Bush like an ol' hound dog for eight years, but he now wants to act like he's Frank Lucas, and Obama is a "Simple-Simon Mutha Effer"?

Another dog that's not hunting.
