WASHINGTON - Chief Justice John Roberts administered the presidential oath of office to Barack Obama for a second time Wednesday just to be on the safe side.
The unusual step came after Roberts flubbed the 35-word constitutionally prescribed oath a bit on Tuesday, causing Obama to repeat the wording differently than as prescribed in the Constitution.
White House counsel Greg Craig said Obama took the oath from Roberts again out of an "abundance of caution."
Good - just like vulcan_girl said: "Shut up and find a new talking point, haters."
Assholes. Now I have to get some work done. ;)

Hedge Fund Run by Ex-Car Salesman Is Scam, SEC Says (Update2) By David Scheer
Jan. 21 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. regulators sued a used-car salesman from West Texas for touting a $45 million hedge fund that they said was actually a Ponzi scheme.
Rod Cameron Stringer misappropriated millions of dollars from investors since 2001, the Securities and Exchange Commission said in a federal lawsuit filed in Lubbock, Texas. The resident of Lamesa, 60 miles south of Lubbock, said he generated annual profits as high as 61 percent, according to the suit.
“Stringer’s claims regarding the hedge fund and the high rates of return are completely bogus,” the regulator said in the suit. Besides running the fund, the agency said the 43-year-old worked as a bail bondsman, a tow-truck driver and a crop-dusting pilot. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087...

SEC charges missing money manager Nadel with fraud By MARCY GORDON – 1 hour ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal regulators on Wednesday charged a missing hedge fund manager with fraud, saying he misled investors and overstated the value of investments in the six funds by about $300 million.
The Securities and Exchange Commission won a court order freezing the assets of Arthur G. Nadel, of Sarasota, Fla., and other defendants in the case.
Nadel owed investors a $50 million payout, told his wife in a note he felt guilty and threatened to kill himself, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. The authorities believe that Nadel, 76, planned his Jan. 14 disappearance.

I love the whitehouse.gov website. Open and transparent government. I love it. Not sure if you all had time to look at it but make sure you check it out if you haven't already.

Can the United States please tackle food safety?
Salmonella in peanut butter, AGAIN?! Didn't we hear about a similar issue with peanut butter not that long ago?
I know keeping tabs on the food supply will be extremely tedious, but I swear headlines about contaminated food is becoming more and more frequent. And scary.
Miranda
Thank you. This is one of those lil tedious "government intrusion on free enterprise" things that (I lie to you not) right-wingers believes intrudes on private businesses. They believe all this government regulation is bad bad bad....let the markets dictate if the companies will actually BE SAFE....yeah, its so stupid its nauseating (pun intended). I argued with a coworker over this...actually the nut was arguing that taxes should only be used for roads and law enforcement and everything else should be controlled by supply and demand.....and I asked his dumb azz did he really want to leave it to corporate managers to decide "just because we had that one sick cow in the stock doesn't mean we need to recall ALL that beef, does it??" The need for stricter regulations on food safety is a decade overdue.
Monie
You know what is really crazy about these cases of contaminated foods---- Enterobacteriaceae (or gastrointesinal pathogens) are being found in the unlikeliest source....I mean, you can expect E. coli possibly in beef, but Salmonella in peanut butter?! There should NOT be pathogens of this nature in certain segments of the food supply.
And then it takes a really looooong time to be able to pinpoint the culprit. Remember the fiasco with the tomatoes----federal officials didn't know for a while what the source was. Food suppliers DO NOT adequately screen food produced inside and outside of this country. And that makes us so vulnerable to illness and quite possibly an attack by means of someone purposely contaminating the food supply.
Miranda
I guess we're waiting for our kids to become violently ill like they are in China right now...its just frightening.
This is a slideshow of cartoons by a Dutch cartoonist reflecting on the differences between Obama and Bush. Unfortunately they aren't translated but images speak for themselves. Sit down as you watch because they are ROTF funny http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2009/01/oath-of-of...

President Barack Obama on Wednesday ordered a pay freeze for top aides making $100,000 or more and signed a series of orders aimed at creating the open government he promised on the campaign trail.
Obama said the moves were aimed at helping to “restore that faith in government without which we cannot deliver the changes we were sent here to make,” drawing a barely veiled contrast between himself and a predecessor who was accused by critics of excessive secrecy and abuses of the law.
In the executive orders and memoranda he signed Wednesday afternoon in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Obama announced that no lobbyist will be allowed to take a job in an area where they lobbied. Nor would former lobbyists who come to work for him be allowed to lobby the administration after leaving government service.
He banned gifts from lobbyists to administration officials. And he said he’d require all those who serve him to commit in writing to refrain from influencing colleagues for two years. The moves represent “a clean break from business as usual,” Obama said.

hey Rikyrah. I posted the link from youtube twice and it was deleted twice. Is something going on with the site?
It stays up for at least 8 mins and then it disappears.
Barack really did say this about Michelle. It was on the 60 Minute interview with Steve Kroft.
Here's the video of the interview. When I heard him say those words sitting beside her and facing Steve Kroft, I was like, you better just go on and tell the truth Barack!!! LOL!
Obama's not the first President to open The White House to meet 'the people'.
NMP
True enough, but how many of 'our people' have ever had any interest in going inside? Or should I say felt like they belonged inside? knowing DC as I know it, there are countless kids that look like him and of the same age who have lived in DC all of their young lives and have never been past Eastern Market. That's effectively the segregation line in DC. They have never seen the Capitol, Washington Monument or the White House up close. As far as they were concerned, those national monuments meant as much to them as the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Despite DC being majority Black, it's one of the most segregated cities in the country. Yesterday may very well have been the first time that DC was integrated. So for me, that image was powerful.
rikyrah
I understand what you mean, NMP. I mean, I would love to see an interview with that young man. Can you believe it? It's still surreal. The image of that. It's still too much for me to believe.

Eric Holder's confirmation HELD -UP for 1 WEEK!!!!
THEY BETTA STOP THIS GAME-PLAYING!! AAArrrrggg!!
Monie
GLH, this stunt is occurring because Rethugs are scared that Bush and his criminal enterprise may have to face the music. Over on ThinkProgress.org, they are discussing this very issue.
"....But torture advocate Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is holding up the nomination because he wants to know exactly whether Holder will pursue criminal prosecutions of “intelligence personnel” involved in torture.
“It could well be there will be a request to delay the markup for a week so those questions can be asked and answered,” Cornyn said. “Part of my concern relates to his statements at the hearing with regard to torture and what his intentions are toward our intelligence personnel who were operating in good faith based on their understanding of what the law was.”

Sure they are. Cornyn is friends with Bush. And the people at Wizbang are also claiming if charges are brought for torture then, liberals who sat on the Intelligence Oversight Committee should be include.

Monie: THANK YOU for this information! :>) I'm learnin' - - from all of you! :>)
Annnnnd, now that I think about it, President OBAMA [NICE! :>)] neva did finish his "THOUGHT"/"RESPONSE" on the prosecutions related to SHRUB!!
I'll betcha that THEY thought that THEY would hear it in his Acceptance Address! NOT!! HAH!! :>)
rikyrah
You are correct. I will eat crow, because Shrub didn't pardon ANY of them mofos like I thought he would. So, yeah, they're running scared.
They did not hear PRESIDENT OBAMA say yesterday -- the ground has shifted under them. They will learn. We need to get a list of the committee members and send emails and letters to their offices.
That's what Leahy should have said. He should have said, "President Obama sent a clear message yesterday to the nation but particularly elected officials that it's time to stop the childeshness, but some of the children up here still continue to have temper tantrums."

This is not going to end well.

No. It. Isn't.

You know it isn't.
I can see it now. Soledad O'brien will get the honors of serving up another LOAD OF SHYT depicting Blacks as happy, nappy folk soooo blissed out by Obama being in the BIG WHITE HOUSE!!!
ALL our troubles have evaporated like bubbles.
SOLUTIONS: AMERICA, A HAPPY POST-RACIAL ENDING WITH THE ELECTION OF THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT.
The emphasis will be: Black folks need to drink a gallon of STFU because WHITES helped to elect Barack Obama.
Am I the only black person in america that enjoyed what I saw of the program?
Val
probably. I ignored the original and will do the same with version 2.
Miranda
God how I wish I had done the same with the original....i wasn't forewarned...I had a hunch, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt...wont' do that again.
I cannot imagine anything good coming out this. The first one had such glaring holes and yet it claimed to represent all black people. How can they offer solution to a problem they did not cover correctly in the first place?
