I think the Obama Presidency will continue to BLOW the proverbial LID off the old social, economic, cultural, and political constructs that have been neatly tucked away in our consciousness.

It's so strange that no one had a problem with Bo Derek when she pranced around in blonde cornrows.

What is unique and creative about us is what we allow others to denegrate and then turn around and mimick and profit from it in the next breath. It don't matter what you name, as long as you claim it. And some us don't claim it!

We define ourselves, no one else has the power to do it, unless we give it to them. We define, create, and nuture who we are from the inside out.

The trap is when we let others define us by outer appearances. It's limiting because you'll never be able to match or even keep up with what others expect you to look like.

Folks had better sit down and drink a long can of STFU, because Chicano, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, and Native Americans and yes even White Americans are welcomed into the BIG WHITE HOUSE.

We just need to bring the consciousnes with us, and everything else will follow.

This might be a troubling departure from the image that many have of the young men they otherwise ignore everyday in the workplace.

And a man similarly devastated when he grew a misshapen Afro years ago that was thin at the top, pretty much killing those dreams of long flowing locs.

That 'kid' – young man – (I'm 55 – I'm getting to the calling everyone 'a kid' stage; actually I've been there /snort/) is no different than I've seen. I wouldn't worry about him. Trust me – I worry more about some of the rednecks out here who drive big-ass trucks that sit 50-feet off the ground than some kid who's wearing a hairstyle I'll never wear.

Now suddenly this brotha with cornrows is noteworthy because he is in line – sans headphones and pants pulled up – to pay respects to the Prez and First Lady.

Ain't nobody napping.

Why do you think that magazine had Michelle Obama rocking a big ol Afro on the cover?

So to see this guy, who is wearing braids that many people think signify thuggishness, laziness, rebelliousness and all the other nesses, being WELCOMED into the White House by the President and First Lady with RESPECT (Obama is directly looking at the guy in his face, in his eyes, man to man) is a powerful and wonderful thing, IMO.

I'm imaginin' that some Brothas could be thinkin': SEE! YES WE CAN B all up in the WHITE HOUSE – - – FOR REAL!! –BOTH as “VISITOR” annnnnd as “PARTICIPANT” [PRESIDENT!!] The Brothas NOW CAN ASPIRE to THAT POSITION! :>)
