Criticizing the issues is not what Tavis is doing. What Tavis is doing is what many fromthe RIGHT are trying to do... assert a politicization of race and identity that is purposefully malicious and hating on Barrack. His simplicity of thought on race issues SPECIFICALLY having to do with Barrack Obama is where his arrogance is most evident.

Like I, and many have said here in JJP, Tavis fancies himself a gatekeeper but who cares about his gates. Can ANYONE really say that his show on NPR and PBS are the be all and the end of Black media? Nope. What gate does he keep?

The internet has put other MORE intelligent people of color (like 95% of regular blog posters here) in touch with issues facing Black America in more timely, politically critical, intellectually rigorous, and socially sophisticated ways. The envelope gets pushed HERE, not on NPR and NOT with Tavis Smiley.

I'm glad he has a show and I'm glad he adds to the numerous voices out there banging the drum the he bangs. His arrogance is palpable and evident in what he choices to criticize. My issue was and is his lens when describing Barrack Obama and race. He asserted a politicization that speaks to his lack of knowledge and sophistication on race matters. If he said it louder I might of thought it was Sean Hannity. He is a punk that has YET to recognize that intellectually Obama is the pro and he is playing triple A ball.

DO me a favor- let's not AGAIN confuse what the Republican party WAS thinking that it has anything in common with what we see TODAY. Yes, I know... MLK was a Republican. Guess what? I have a TV and I get the paper- it ain't the same party.

Yeah, there's gonna be one. Late February maybe? I think this is the 10th anniversary. I have no clue who is supposed to be on the panel. I think it'll be interesting. We'll still be on our Obama honeymoon, so if he starts hating too hard on Barack somebody is gonna call him on it.

You need to reread the post. I took into account your use of porn. Perhaps it's because I'm older but words like porn, pimping and bitch have negative connations. You still have to watch what you say.
I really suspect that everyone is so overjoyed w/ Obama becoming president you are willing to let things slide. But damn near every poster here will be screaming on the first set of photos they think inapproriate. I what to set boundaries now especially the children.

I haven't seen the clip, but Tavis has been trying to position himself as the VOICE OF ACCOUNTABILITY ever since Obama dissed his State of the Black Union.

Speaking of which, is there going to be a State of the Black Union this year?

I have no problem with "accountability." Obama SHOULD be held accountable. But there's a difference between holding him accountable and just plain hatin' and Tavis comes off as hatin'. If Tavis was really about accountability he wouldn't have run away from his spot on Tom Joyner when the listeners started to hold HIM accountable.
