Barking news: Obama decides on a moderate dog

When President-elect Barack Obama was getting made up for his interview for ABC’s “This Week” at the Newseum, his daughters Malia and Sasha were playing producer and director in the control room.

At one point, they even got to talk into host George Stephanopoulos’ ear.

Stephanopoulos says they suggested a question: “What kind of a dog are we getting and when are we getting it?”

On Election Night, Obama said: “Sasha and Malia, I love you both more than you can imagine. You have earned the puppy that is coming with us."

The president-elect told Stephanopoulos: “They seem to have narrowed it down to a Labradoodle or a Portuguese water hound.”

“A medium-sized,” the anchor observed.

“Medium-sized dog, and so, we’re now going to start looking at shelters to see when one of those dogs might come up,” Obama replied. “We’re closing in on it. This has been tougher than finding a commerce secretary.”

CNN announces 'State of the Union with John King'

Yet another White male given his own show on CNN. When's Roland Martin gonna get is due? Hell, I'd even prefer Jeff Tobin.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – CNN announced Wednesday that its revamped Sunday public affairs show is titled “State of the Union with John King.”

The new program, hosted by CNN Chief National Correspondent John King, will air every Sunday from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m.

The show will launch January 18 the weekend before President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration. The first show will preview the January 20 inauguration, and examine the upcoming Obama administration.

Im upset. Upset and disappointed. The Presidential election was amazing because it blew open the door for intelligent political discussion. People of all colors, religion, sexuality, region, etc. were being heard.

And now Im upset for 2 reasons.

My first thought when I saw this was WTF?!?!
I could easily name 10 AA's better suited for this forum than DLH.

I don't know how many of you watch Greek on ABC Family. It features two african-american actors, Amber Stevens and Paul James as members of the traditional white Greek system. Paul has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award for role as a gay character on the show. I've never seen a more open, realistic portrayal of a gay teenager/man that is in no way a characture on a TV series. I hope he wins.

I watch Greek. Love that show.

OMG..the panel of Waters Fenty Pouisant and Cosby was absolutely PATHETIC.

I have never watched such a nonsubstantive panel on MTP or any other political show.
Unbelieveable...no one made any comment of significance...I kept watchin hopin it would get better, it didn't.

The clip is from Say Amen, Somebody. I remember it very well, because I saw it at the Castro Theatre (in the heart of the gay community in San Francisco) in 1982. The place was packed to the rafters. The singing was just beautiful. I think I wasn't the only one in tears. Dorsey died some 10 years later; this was like his swan song.

It's on DVD, but Amazon only has used copies, it appears.

In PE Obama's latest discussion on the economy, he deliberately spoke to education and It's need to provide and education so our graduates could compete w those of Beijing for the high tech jobs of the future. I's like to start a discussion about exactly what that means because to often it means this:

This is really important as coming from an urban high school were I had an opportunity to learn Fortran much of the discussion was how to train the students in keypunch as they were the "jobs" of the future. I fear now even that is what this educational intiative will become if left to expediency.

Philip wasn't Greek Greek, like Aristotle Onassis.

Yes, it was clear GeorgiePorgie was not sure how to pivot from that question. It is really sad that these interviews are so often 'gotcha' focused to polarize very serious issues that we need to solve.

Obama refocuses them each time to make the convo into a productive discussion with areas to build on. He concentrates on solutions not inflamming situations and carving out an intractable win/lose dynamic...he seeks win/win...where do we agree and how can we build on that.

This is such a novel idea to most of those who have built their political careers in the last 20 years simply fightin and bickering without ever having to be accountable to actual DO anything.

Obama is changing that paradigm..he wants to be transformational.
