Site Update – Tags Are Back! And Comment Counts. Anything else?

Hey folks,

Quick update from the tech side of things here.

We’ve finally fixed tagging. All posts before December 10th are fine, but the past month is pretty bare. We’ll be back-tagging over the coming weeks.

Now, you can see how many comments a post has from the home page, and not just for the most recent post.

Coming up

updates to the template to remove some old stuff and add some new partners
installation of an inauguration coverage widget and possible video player
potential integration with facebook

Thanks for your patience through our tagless period, and much respect to our WordPress guru Jeff Greco who fixed in four hours something that had taken me weeks to not fix myself.

Now’s a good time to register any complaints, confusion or wishes you have for the site from a tech/infrastructure perspective. Please weigh in in the comments if something’s on your mind

Have you guys looked into a mobile version of the site? I read JJP a lot from my blackberry, but can't respond to posts from there.

I used to be able to refer a JJP to my Facebook page.
Now I can't.
I also can't revise any mistakes (spelling, html) on a post that I publish. One used to be able to do that.
Now I can't.

I'm not sure I get what you mean about referring to JJP on your facebook page. I often share our articles to my own page using a browser bookmarklet from facebook

Are you referring to the fact that each post used to have a “Share This” Option that let you post articles to a number of places (facebook, digg, newsvine, etc)?

as for revising your comments, that should still be working. I just tried on my own. and this is what I see. just below my new comment are options to
“reply edit reblog flag”
you should probably just see
“reply” and “edit”

I know I can log into Disqus, but I can’t post.
Check with your people, but it may have something to do with blackberries not running javascript that well (don’t know if iphones or other PDAs have the same issue).

great idea. we haven’t considered that at all and will add it to our 2009 strategic plan :)
seriously, i completely overlooked it. we have to see how the disqus system would work over mobile, since your ability to comment requires you to be logged in there as well.

ok cool. we actually took it down because it was killing the site load time and according to the stats hardly anyone was using it. i'll see about adding the facebook one back at least. thanks
