I'm amused that so many people care about the US Surgeon General. Most people probably can't name one let alone the current one. Maybe more people should listen to what the Surgeon Generals have to say by pushing back from the table, exercising and discontinuing activities we know shorten our life span.

Gupta will be a glorified family practitioner without any patients. He won't be in charge of health care reform. Remember Tom Daschle.

Fuck Gupta. When Sicko came out, Michael Moore was on CNN and Gupta nitpicked stupid things from the film to try to make an anti-single payer point.

It was ridiculous. The things Gupta was saying weren't even true, yet his audience on CNN could see the infallible doctor "confronting" the radical film maker.

It was bullshit then and it's bullshit now. A few months later, CNN came out with its own series on the health care disaster in this country and Gupta had changed his tune.

Fuck him. He could have used his platform as America's favorite and most prominent doctor then to make a case for single payer, to at least make the case to the 50% of americans who are so stupid and ill-informed ~ or maybe so fortunate, in not having had a serious illness in the family ~ as to think it's unnecessary.

Well, Dr Gupta is also refreshing as the possible appointment goes against the trend in picking big shot, big name insiders or Clintonistas (watch one go in Richardson's place–bet) rather than committed, sharp, creative, courageous–an often obscure–warriors.
At least Michelle didn't get an email from Oprah ordering Sanjay's replacement with Dr. Oz…LOL

I think Sanja Gupta would be a refreshing candidate. We have been accustomed to older men and one woman as surgeon general. He has brought a lot of pressing medical issues to the forefront on CNN.
