The NAACP will be hosting a “NAACP Member Welcome Center” at the Lansburgh Theatre located at 450 7th St. N.W. in downtown Washington, D.C., on Sunday, January 18th and Monday January 19th, preceding the formal Inauguration events on January. 20th.
The center will serve as a gathering place for members traveling from out of town and will feature various activities, including a worship service, oral history tapings, a panel discussion and a spoken word performance. Members are encouraged to attend and admission is free.
Refreshments will be served and a reception with President & CEO Benjamin Jealous is scheduled. See full schedule below.
Obviously this inauguration is big history. It’s also the NAACP’s 100th anniversary. We’ve got our disappointments and hopes for this organization, so if you’re around, click through the link above and check out some of what they have planned including an oral history project recording people’s thoughts about the inauguration and aspirations for this organization.
