I just flipped over to FoxNews real quick and Geraldo Riviera just said people don't realize how much the troops love President Obama....then he said he's NEVER seen a crowd as diverse as the ones he's seen today. The dress looks a wee bit too much like something you'd see at a quinceanera, but I like the fact that Michelle's willing to shake it up and not do the usual Oscar de la Renta's. They're like two teenagers all over again together. Black love is so beautiful. Thanks for an amazing b-day, Mr. President.

It looks like it's made out of toilet paper. I have been such a defender of her fashion choices, but this dress sucks and is also unflattering. I was really expecting simple elegance tonight. Oh well. Her makeup is really fresh.

I dig the fact that The First Lady (still hasn't sunk in) is willing to take chances. Might not always like what she wears, but she's never dull, boring and does the unexpected. I like that quality alot.

I loved this morning's outfit. It was bold, beautiful and had an afrocentric vibe.

Maybe it's just me, but when it comes to Michelle and fashion, she can do no wrong in my book. I mean the woman can literally wear a brown paper sack and I would give her two snaps. I LOVED the yellow/gold/green ensemble for the inauguration. It made her skin glow. And the white? LOVED it. It made her look twenty years younger...maybe it's not the clothes, it's her. She always looks comfortable in what she wears and she wears it with extreme confidence. LOVE her.

i think pictures will redeem the dress.

I think that as with all things, it was the expectations game that spoiled this dress for some people. People were expecting more color, and all those designer sketches that people saw colored our vision some what.

Anyway, I like the dress

no lamh - the dress was ugly on TV. LOL But I love Michelle. What got me was that "stuff" hanging from her dress. I thought it was crochet something . . . blksista hit it with her chenile bedspread analogy.

I am not wanting to hate on Michelle. I've liked most of her fashion choices, but there are times when she thinks she is still in high school, or ordering her wedding dress! She needs a stylist that will honor her and yet tone her choices down at bit and accentuate the positive. To me, it was the style rather than the the fabric. Jill Biden carried off her red dress far better, imho. Else, when Michelle attends those state dinners in the White House and in Europe, she's gonna get savaged.

Trust me; I used to work in retail clothing a while ago, and I had to talk women out of stuff that made them look stupid, even though I could have made a fat commission off something expensive. It sure isn't worth it if someone finds out the hard way and brings the dress back.

I'm feeling you on this comment, Black Sis. There is a time for everything. There are times to experiment, but I think that this uber historical event was not the time. I guess Michelle disagrees. If the dress were more flattering....It makes her look wide and flat chested. It looks like a bride's maid's nightmare. I'm sure she's been very busy moving from place to place. Obviously the dress selection was not really a priority.

I like the gown. Critics of course were hoping for a different color and silhouette on her.

Michelle's choices often don't translate well on television.....but often up close and personal they look better. i will say that Michelle often picks designers who put a lot of craftmanship and artistry in their work. And she often wears clothes made of beautiful fabrics...and when you see them up close, the more expensive and finer fabrics translate better in person.

I think she looks pretty. I am not generally a big fan of that type of silhouette. I think that romantic, godess type style generally looks best on really thin women. It can be a hard look to pull off. A girl like me thin, but with boobage would look nine months pregnant!

But Michelle looks good, IMO.

With her figure she could have worn something more flattering.

On top of the chenille bedspread, it was not flattering, and it was white. I could have bought something more impressive off the rack.

I was trying to be nice. I think colorwise she was trying to match his shirt but I'm with you. I could have found something better off the rack too. With all the dresses that designers submitted, several were better.

When I heard he was performing I said a quick silent prayer that he would
not do his verse off of My President is Black. I guess I under estimated the
man. Also, I was hating on Beyonce before, I'll admit it. I don't like her
radio version of At Last but she did the song justice tonight. She showed
emotion too. Beautiful! just beautiful!

I guess I'm in the minority. At the risk of getting another point deducted (LOL!), I didn't like her rendition and I think she came across as phoney IMO. Kerry Washington and Mary J. were sincere. I also wish ABC focused more on the President and the First Lady during the dance. Thank goodness there were other balls.

Bey did a good job, what I am seeing with all of these A-list stars is something I don't think I've ever seen in ALL of them in a gathering like this...humility....President Obama simply dwarfs every other person on EARTH. Everybody is in check...they're just happy to be there, like I would be. Its amazing to me. Its the grandest thing!

LOL!!! I'm loving that gown. It's like cotton candy. She's likely to change. Dancing ad sweating and trying to remain poised and gracious is hard to carry off.

I'll join you in the "I like the gown" corner. I like the balls, it adds a playful quality to the occasion. And the white looks stunning against her skin. It doesn't look that great on TV but in pictures it does.
