Black is a race assumed and placed on you by others and much as identified by oneself, ethinicity is another thing entirely, one can be black, white or asian and be multiethnic, its about how one fits into narrowly defined racial categories. How many Phillipinos are thought to be latino, pakistani or vice versa. Come on now "think" some more.

The article was pointing out the MEDIA images of the black family versus the reality of the Obamas and how that reality, which is actually normal for many African-americans, is rarely if ever portrayed or shown.

I personally think this was not a good story from a person of African American Decent's perspective. I read the article and it seemed like it would be good. But the more I read, the more concerned I became. It makes it seem like ALL black people have no form of home training. As if there are no other positive Black influences around in our community.

This is the disease that plagues america. I want it known from me a Christian African American Man that i was outraged after reading this article. Don't get me wrong i love the way the First family portrays themselves in public. It is refreshing and a ray of light. But they are not the one. That is why I am so upset about it.

I applaud the effort of the writer, but from my stand point it was a failure in it's attempt to unite readers.

Anthony Butler
Minister Of The Gospel Of Christ

I am concerned with all the hype about President Obama being the first black president. His mother was white and his father was black. He is as much a white president as he is a black president. His mother was also 3 months pregnant when she married his father. Is that another "first" for a president?

The media is and will continue to be the most polarizing element of society. The problem is that we as "blacks" must not fall in its traps. The Obamas versus the Ghetto Fabulous Family are a symphony of extremes. Most black families are neither. They are more towards the center. I believe that the problems is that those extreme facets of our culture never meet, live together and/or socialize with each other. And if they do, believe me they are careful of what they say.

Well this is my feeling after reading this article: Most of it I disagreed with but Im pretty sure that the writer of it is older than I am (21) so I will say maybe its a generation gap.
As a chocolate sister who grew up in a two-parent home, predominately black neighborhood, these stereotypes havent really effected me internally possibly external to a person who has never talk to a black person(I was going to say a black person with some sense but people who dont have it all come in all colors of the rainbow)But as that dark-skinned girl in the room I've never felt slighted. I've always believed "the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice" I'm being humorous but when we as a people started letting these images be true to life(by things we could control or not) is where we messed up

Some of these celebs need to learn from our new first family. Most times it is hard to believe what is written in the NY Post, especially Page Six, so I hope the Usher story isn't true!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/01222009/gossip/pag...

THE boldfaces were not always on their best behavior before and after Barack Obama's presidential inauguration. Jessica Alba called Bill O'Reilly "kind of an a - - hole" at Sunday night's "Declare Yourself" party. Then, on Monday, during the sardine-packed Huffington Post ball, MSNBC's Chris Matthews was "complaining in disbelief" because he had to wait on line, while "Ed Harris patiently waited on the same line without complaining," said a source.

At the same party, Sharon Stone threw a fit when she found out D.L. Hughley was replacing Larry King during a live CNN segment in which she was supposed to take part. "Sharon was barking out questions about where Larry King was," said our spy. When she was told Hughley was doing the interview, "Sharon turned cold, snapped, 'I'm not doing this,' and went to the VIP room. D.L. did the party coverage on his own."

On inauguration night, Halle Berry was spotted on her way to the Western Ball, "looking lost and confused in the crowd," according to our witness. "She stepped onto the escalator and the long train of her dress got caught, causing a scene of panic."

The source said Berry was "frantically screaming" and "security had to hit the emergency brake." The distressed beauty eventually yanked her dress out of the escalator and went to the party.

Earlier that day, while the entire city seemed to be packed into the National Mall, Usher and his wife, Tameka Foster, were at Barneys in Georgetown. Our source said, "The [shopping] mall was practically empty, and a young girl went up and asked Usher for a photo. His bodyguard very meanly refused, and Tameka laughed in the girl's face. After they left, the little girl was crying."

His rep said: "Usher took as many photos as possible while in DC. He was there to witness a great moment in history. It's absurd that people would try to ruin it."

The media thrives on negative imagery for anyone who is not a white, male heterosexual. Many times in my life I've thought, "Well, no one can really believe what (show or movie or news report or song or book) is saying", and yet, many do. The media also loves to divide and conquer, which is one of the reasons I'm grateful to have a President who seems to do what he can to avoid the politics of division.

Does George W. Bush’s murder of Margie Schoedinger constitute a hate crime?

Barack Obama can choose to “change everything” and deal with the murder of Margie Schoedinger.

Two things: Elizabeth Alexander will be on Colbert tonight. Sh*t! Again, I'm out west; I forget.

I was going to say the majority of black folks, but actually the majority of people I've known have been fairly loving and affectionate. I don't tend to think that all people who live in trailer parks are white trash, every single black mother is on welfare or every gay man is a nympho hanging around public restrooms (in airports).

But we're talking the media aren't we?
