Radar and Hawkeye (or was it Trapper John?) were playing poker. Radar won (let's say) $200 from Hawk. He picks up his haul and starts to count it.

Hawkeye says, “What? You don't trust me?” Radar says “Yeah, of course I trust you!” without a trace of sarcasm. And.keeps.counting.the.money.

“Mike, I don’t understand what the problem is. We are just trying to look under the hood,” Garver said.

“If you are looking under the hood, then you are calling me a liar,” Griffin replied. “Because it means you don’t trust what I say is under the hood.”

No Mike –for some strange reason, America has lost some confidence in prima facie “trust me!” Bush admin statements.

… It's called insubordination, because I believe he received a directive to work with the transition team. He has given his immediate supervisor, now or in the future, grounds for termination.

As chief of NASA, Griffin is also in charge of overseeing NASA's role in tackling global warming — which Griffin isn't sure is really a problem.

Last year, Space Daily reported Griffin saying the following:

“I have no doubt that global — that a trend of global warming exists. I am not sure that it is fair to say that it is a problem we must wrestle with. To assume that it is a problem is to assume that the state of earth's climate today is the optimal climate, the best climate that we could have or ever have had and that we need to take steps to make sure that it doesn't change.

First of all, I don't think it's within the power of human beings to assure that the climate does not change, as millions of years of history have shown, and second of all, I guess I would ask which human beings – where and when – are to be accorded the privilege of deciding that this particular climate that we have right here today, right now is the best climate for all other human beings. I think that's a rather arrogant position for people to take.”

Examples of NASA's Mike Griffin's Obstruction!

For example, transition-team interviews have been monitored by NASA officials “taking copious notes,” according to congressional and space-community sources. Employees who met with the team were told to tell their managers about the interview.

When team members arrived three weeks ago, they asked the agency, among other things, to quantify how much could be saved by canceling Ares I. Though they also asked what it would take to accelerate the program, the fact that the team could even consider scrapping the program was enough to spur Griffin and his supporters into action.

According to industry officials, Griffin started calling heads of companies working for NASA, demanding that they either tell the Obama team that they support Constellation or refrain from talking about alternatives.

The companies, worried that Griffin may remain and somehow punish them if they ignore his wishes, have by and large complied.

I'd expect this type of stunt from, say, DOD or DHS. From NASA, it's laughable.

It sounds like Mr. Griffith needs to be cussed out. I don't care HOW much technical knowledge the transision team lacks, I'll be damned if anyone has to tip-toe around his azz for information that should be handed over without any lip. Lori Garver is not there to build rockets, he needs to check himself, plain and simple. If he has valid issues, there is a way to handle it but this ain't it.

This attitude does seem indicative of the “he's not MY president”-mentality and the fact that he himself would not come to evaluate the program is a further insult to them.
