But I guess that is your ignorance, not mine.

Look young man please bring facts and substances.

You have officially been hoodwinked by the left wing media

Article: CATO Institute

First of all this meltdown began with the two GSEs began purchasing mortgages from banks to allow banks to issue larger and riskier mortgages with the goal of increasing homeownership.

Now, Fannie and Freddie were allowed to have a lower percentage of capital reserves, needed in case of losses, than other private banks were required to keep. Fannie and Freddie both engaged in accounting practices that the courts have ruled to be improper and fraudulent. Fannie and Freddie have contributed millions of dollars to political candidates, including most members of Congress.

During the Carter administration, the Democratic Congress passed the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which gave federal regulators the power to pressure banks into issuing loans to high-risk households and small businesses. During the Clinton administration, the CRA was given more power to force banks to issue even riskier loans to poor households. Officials of the Bush administration and members of Congress, who tried to rein in the CRA because they saw a train wreck coming, were accused of racism by some congressional Democrats and left-wing activist groups.

The Federal Reserve engaged in a policy of excessively easy money, cutting the federal funds rate to only 1 percent in June 2003, a rate lower than inflation. Thus, banks were encouraged to provide many very low-rate adjustable mortgages that they, in turn, could offload on the GSEs. Everyone knew interest rates would eventually rise and many borrowers would then be unable to pay the mortgages. But each party in the chain thought it could pass off the bad paper to the next sucker. The result, the taxpayer becomes the ultimate sucker.

Financial regulators are supposed to protect the integrity of the system, the investors and consumers. It was the anti-capitalist left that insisted the regulators make banks originate bad loans and made sure that the GSEs would not have to abide by the rules that everyone else did. If you have any doubt about this, take at look at this video, which shows members of Congress attacking the regulator and defending the improper practices of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which touched off the financial crisis.

Link:
http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?RsrcID...

"Following the stock market collapse in October 1929, the Hoover administration tried to spend its way out of the Great Depression, increasing federal spending by 47 percent between 1929 and 1932. As a result, federal spending as a percentage of GDP increased from 3.4 percent in 1930 to 6.9 percent in 1932, and reached 9.8 percent by 1940. During that period, many of the federal programs now being buffed up for expanded action - Fannie Mae, Home Owners' Loan Corp., the FHA [Federal Housing Administration], the FHLBB [Federal Home Loan Bank] - were created."

"While this point of nostalgia has excited many advocates of an expanded federal
government, ordinary citizens and taxpayers should note that, despite all of the new government spending and bureaucracy, fewer Americans had jobs 1940 than in 1929. Furthermore, the homeownership rate of 43.6 percent in 1940 was the lowest recorded by the Census Bureau, even below the 47.6 percent rate of 1890."

Federal government spending has now grown to more than 20 percent of GDP, and the total of federal, state and local spending now totals more that one-third of GDP. Regulatory expenditures have even grown more rapidly. The problem is not a result of too little regulation, but of too much regulation used to line the pockets and power of politicians rather than serve legitimate purposes.

What we have seen is not a failure of free-market democratic capitalism, but another failure of a government that destroyed the normal market mechanisms for dealing with risk. There have been many calls for the "greedy" to be punished, but the political "greed" for power and money is even more dangerous than excesses practiced by occasional business people. If the greedy should pay fines or go to jail for their sins, it is important not to leave out Democratic Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts and Sens. Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Charles Schumer of New York, and many of their colleagues. Their actions have been far more costly to the American people, and others, than the actions of any Wall Street executive.

http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=9684

Harvard University
http://www.wjh.harvard.edu/~dobbin/cv/articles/...

Ok, CPL, since you wanna attempt to blame the Republican Party for the fallout/economic crisis and blame the Republicans for the problems, I would highly suggest you read the below article/link and educate yourself on the truth and not lies from the left-wing media, also please throughly review the third link/aritcle from Harvard University, since you want to give the Democrats the credit for the New Deal, you might wanna double check your information. You're just arguing for the sake of conflict.

By: CPL

Republican 2008:

If you want me to take your positions seriously, post some scholastic articles to back up your assertions or just STHU.

I can post a few articles on whos responsible for:

Deregulation: http://www.opensecrets.org/news/issues/electric...

http://www.scribd.com/doc/2012677/U-S-Bank-Dere...

Changing from the party of Lincoln to the party of Bigots:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

I can be a Democrat because that party pushed through the Civil Rights Act of 1964; not to mention that prior to that, it was a Democrat, Franklin Delano Rooseevelt, elected in 1933 during the beginning of the Great Depression, the economic mess left by your party's boys, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover.' Guess Coolidge had a good reason for earning his nickname, "Silent Cal" - he kept quiet about his part in unleashing the mess that became the Stock Market Crash of 1929.

I'm guessing you're not a POC because how can anyone be a POC and be a member of the GOP, given how they continue to treat people of color well into the 21st Century.

I honestly think you ask this shyt because you don't want to admit you don't know shyt, and hope I'll post links so you don't have to get your hands dirty. The SUVs were everywhere and the normalizing of the SUV was intense. It was like: "C'mon, everyone has one of these, this is what it means to have a vehicle, get one of these." There was more selection and more open-ness to deals, too, if I remember.

Fortunately I am really deeply stubborn when it comes to stuff like this and didn't do what they tried to get me to do. I was creeped out by SUVs for reasons I didn't even entirely understand. The weird creepy energy of the salespeople pushing them blew me away.

But it was an intense experience.

(of course, I also have some major loathing for people who drive big ass SUVs and trucks (unless they need the truck for business). Where I live, before the gas prices went up, it seemed like there were way fewer small cars than huge gas guzzling things. Most of the huge things had one person in them and no cargo. And people in these huge ass things would do stuff like leaving the vehicle on in the parking lot with the ac running while waiting for ... whatever. So I also have some rage in me at people for that.

I hope Obama sticks to his guns about how the oil thing is an addiction and now more than ever is the time to change our habits in terms of its use. He seems pretty solid on this in what he says, and I hope he will choose to and be able to follow through.

It seems like a combination of people agreeing and huge huge pressure from the salespeople, to me.

When I was looking for a “new” used car in 2000, I got leaned on hard hard HARD by the salespeople trying to push me to to get a SUV.
