The symbolism of the shoe is so important to us. I think it will be widely discussed. as a symbol better than that fall of the Hussein statute. Throw a shoe upside his head for lost jobs. throw a shoe for lost life savings, lost homes, 5000 losst lives in a useless war and poverty. If we could have done it ourselves without repercussions we would have. Bush has frustrated so many people that all we want to do is slap him upside the hear. Hit him upside the head for stealing the Presidency.

Bush did have enough sense to duck. However, that didn't last long because he was stupid enough to stand back up. I thought the Secret Service is supposed to take a bullet for the President. Where were they when this man had time to pull off two shoes and throw them. Did the Secret Service have a directive to knock Bush down to protect him. Ooookay, someone is about the lose their job at the Secret Service.

We must insist that the reporters defense fund be placed in the bailout package, NO American citizen would object.
  • D.
Bush should've thrown the shoes right back.

    That's all.
  • TBLU
Should've he? After killing, maiming and torturing iraqis, I think he got off the hook pretty damn well...
  • D.
Friend of mine summed it up best:

"Throw two shoes at the man who gave you the freedom, paid for in American blood, to attend a press conference in a country that just five years ago was a bloody dictatorship."

Yeah, he should've thrown them back. If the journalist had pulled that stunt under Saddam, he'd be dead by now.
  • TBLU
clearly you've never seen any statistics sourced by human rights groups.... how many have been detained without trial by US forces? freedom? Do you even know what he wailed when he threw those shoes?
  • RonnieB
I know, right? He just stood there.

I thought George had a little more gangsta in him than that.
  • D.
LOL!!! Yeah, I expected more from him.

He might've taken a beat down, but with the time he's got left in office, who cares?
  • MsKitty
I wanna buy Mr. Shoe Thrower a drink. He is so my hero.
  • Webb

What a great quote for Roget's and the history books that children will be reading 50 years from now. I'm still LMAO...everytime I see it.
  • TBLU
I guess its better than a "I'm not really sure what that means..." from bush...

The correspondent reporting from Baghdad is kind of stupid.

Tossing your shoe at someone you are pissed at is universal in it's meaning. Often, I have heard the act preceded by the exclamation "M*tha F*cker!!!!".

That guy threw fastballs worthy of Dave Stewart.

Gotta give Bush credit - his reflexes were quick enough for him to DUCK. ROFL

If he were high, those shoes would have clocked him. Period.

Here is some coverage from CNN with words, after the sabotage, from Pres. Bush.

    CNN - Duck and Cover
  • Mona
Setting politics aside for a second, I keep wondering how this guy was able to throw BOTH of those shoes. Perhaps I watch too many action movies, but shouldn't Secret Service have been on that guy sooner? One shoe I can understand (MAYBE) but that second one shouldn't have left his hand...
  • TBLU
Maybe bueracracy took a backseat when the the ss decided maybe he deserved it...
  • CraigHickman
Perhaps the whole thing was staged.
  • evita
Bet next news conference people will have to wear flip flops.
  • tracey
You are absolutely right; they should have jumped on that guy way before he was able to launch that second shoe.

But I have to admit, the President was quick with the moves :-)
  • sherri
I'm not a Bush fan, but seriously. Where were the secret service??
  • isonprize
That's what I said. "Well, at least he had a quick move."

On the other hand, from now on, press conferences may have barefoot journalists!!

This goes under the "You can't make this isht up" category.
  • GreenLadyHere
    isonprize: LOL! :>) :>)

How did that dude get ta fire off 2 shoes?? :>)

The Secret Service shoulda been all ova him like the "proverbial white on rice!" I just think that their REACTION TIME was AMAZINGLY SLOW!!

I have seen clips of the attempt on Reagan's life. The SS "bum-rushed" him to the ground 2 fast!!! They are SUPPOSE to "RIDE OR DIE!"

    Hmmmm??
  • Sepia
OMG! Too bad dude didn't fake Bush out with a stutter throw. He would've hit him for sho'!
  • Beechy
too bad it wasnt a grenade - put that murdering bastard in the ground for good.... aint ever gonna be a war crimes trial...
  • Webb
LMAO...Bush better be glad those weren't stilettos!

    Simply iconic...if a picture speaks a 1,000 words, that video speaks 1,000,000.

seems like he has had on the job training at dodging flying objects. he must've pissed Laura during one of his drunken spells

  • mjohnso27
Below is a blurb from the New York Times with the full quote of what the guy said:

But [Bush's] appearance at a news conference here was interrupted by an Iraqi journalist who shouted in Arabic — “This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog” — and threw one of his shoes at the president, who ducked and narrowly avoided being struck.

As chaos ensued, he threw his other shoe, shouting, “This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq." The second shoe also narrowly missed Mr. Bush as Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki stuck out a hand in front of the president’s face to help shield him.

A scrum of security agents descended on the man, who was about 12 feet from the lectern, and wrestled him to the floor and then out of the ornate room where the news conference was taking place. The president was uninjured and brushed off the incident. “All I can report is it is a size 10,” he said jokingly before continuing his news conference and noting the apologies of Iraqi journalists in the front row.
  • SjP
Apparently showing the sole of one's shoe and/or throwing one's shoe is akin to a bird flip in Arab countries. And I certainly will say that doing so certainly does leave a lasting and profound image. I'm sorry (no I'm not) but, I just can't stop laughing! Bush has become the laughing stock of the entire world and obviously the Secret Service want no part of him. Look at the video again and you'll see that it took the showing of 2 shoes before they even moved. They wouldn't take a shoe for our Commander and Chief so I know darn well that a bullet must be out of the question. Hope they don't feel the same about the President-Elect.
  • whiterosebuddy
I KNOW!! that response STRUCK me too!!
I was like they moving like Bush did when he was told about 9/11 and kept on reading MyPetGoat!!

  • JunePearl
I read somewhere that the translation of what the man said is "This is a farewell kiss, you dog".

I wonder how many people felt a sense of "I'm right there with you man! Use my shoes too!"

It's actually kind of sad. Can you imagine what it's like to be the man that most of the world has contempt for? Can you imagine knowing that you will go down as one of the worst presidents of the world? You reap what you sow.

It's actually sad for everyone all around, the lives lost because of Cheney's greed, the cowardliness of the majority of the Administration, and Bush's own abetting of the Iraqi War for money (let's face it, it was not against terrorism, it was for the dollar bills).

I pray that Obama does not go down the same road.
  • Trumystique
But it looks like Obama is going to go down that road as well. Look at the people in his cabinet- they are hawks. He has surrounded himself with militarists. He himself has said hyper-militarist things like bomb Pakistani targets if necessary to fight insurgents in Afghanistan.

Obama will get the same treatment from the Arab and Muslim world pretty soon unless he moves to get out of Afghanistan and Iraq. He will get the same treatment if he appears to be dancing to Israels tune ( remember that first AIPAC speech)

Agreeing to Kyoto ( like that will happen!), pouring more money into PEPFAR or ending the global gag rule might soften hearts. But Obama has to hand over some big olive branches in order to keep Muslim moderates the world over currently giving him the benefit of the doubt in his corner.

Afghanistan is lost. Iraq is not going to get better. Peace in the Middle East requires a 2 state solution. If Obama doesnt face those realities in 4 years they will be calling him a mongrel dog or slave and burning effigies.
  • blksista
From your lips to the Buddhist gods' ears.
  • JunePearl
Lemme tell you something, blksista, Bush better humble himself before God BIG TIME!! 'Cause God asks that we love mercy, do justice, and walk humbly before Him. Shoot, a quick glance at the book of Amos will show that God will rebuke the oppressors.

All people of all faiths can probably agree that God is with the oppressed. Oppressors should always fear God.
  • hustleandfloe
pretty fearful when we think of the universal law: Reap what you sow. I Kings 21:19 And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine. [the whole account is worth reading.]
  • GreenLadyHere
hustleandfloe: ***hand in the air*** LAWD HA'MERCY!!! :>)

    PREACH!!! :>)
  • nickwah22
I COULD DO NOTHING BUT LAUGH VERY LOUDLY.

I so needed that laugh right now. That Bush sure knows how to duck out the way real quick. LMFAO. Back to my slumber. HEHEHEH
  • nickwah22
Now that i think about it, that is some hood shit to throw your shoes. Borderline Jerry Springer, lol!!
  • Lilytiger
Too funny by our standards and a direct insult by the journalists.

    All around a win win.

    Still laughing.
  • dcgatn
while it's funny and shows the level of contempt bush has earned in the world, it seems the secret service were a little slow doing their job. dude should not have been able to chunk both shoes at bush. i need the SS to be on their game when protecting the incoming president when it comes to stuff like this and this is not a good look.
  • CPL
I already said Obama needs to get some NOI brothas security clearances with a quickness and not depend on SS guys who've been around since Kennedy.
  • nickwah22
did you notice the secret service guy who stood up stood to the right of him, out of the direct "line of fire?" shouldn't they've hoped on him and covered him up or something?
  • Miranda
Well the journalists have to go thru a security check to go in there in the first place, so his shoes were probably checked and cleared as...well..as shoes...LOL...who knew he was gonna turn his penny loafers into Num Chucks? LOL!!
  • spirit_55z
This is too hilarious! He could've anounced he's "MAXWELL SMART" too
Maybe DUMB Bush wouldn't have ducked, thinking the shoe thrower actually was SMART.
  • ibeching
    i'm speechless

    gotta admit, shrub has reflexes

if they put this journalist in prison, he'll get a hero's welcome
  • Acts Of Faith Blog
He just did something a lot of us wish we had the opportunity to do!
  • icebergslim
Here is the video of journalist throwing shoes at Bush. The shoe throwing is a sign of contempt. Is anyone surprised at that one?

    Video
  • Miranda
Rikyrah, they have the actual clip of "The Throw" up now:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/14/bush-v...
  • Denise
I don't think this is funny, and I don't like this type of precedent on the heels of a black man as POTUS. Sorry, but I don't.

(I know I posted that YouTube clip yesterday of the "copter", but the "official" was not the head of state.
  • blksista
I doubt whether any shoes or missiles are going to be thrown at Obama if and when he visits Middle East leaders.

Lighten up a bit. This was definitely had George Bush's name on it. The guy was specifically showing contempt for someone who ran his country into the ground. And as the Secret Service had to frisk people coming into the area, there is no way in the world that they anticipated a couple of sailing shoes.
  • spirit_55z
Agree. It took a lot of courage and SOLE to do this. He's SHOE-IN for the Iraqi discus or shot put events.
  • CPL
    SOLE!!!?

Okay, Spirit, you've been hanging around Town too long.

    ROFLMAO!!!!
  • whiterosebuddy
    Spirit...you truly have SOLE!!!

    lmao
  • Justice58
    LOL
  • Miranda
    LMAO!!!!
  • Trumystique
That aint even right. Though I am ROFLMAO
  • spirit_55z
Trumystique, you know Leno, Letterman, O'brien, and Fergerson get their material from JJP bloggers!!!! :-))))
  • Constructive_Feedback
    whiterosebuddy:

Just think the profound impact that would be had in the security situation for the innocent Iraqi people if this journalist and his Muslim brothers reacted as strongly to the "throwing of bombs" that kill Muslims in Iraq who are in an open market.

Of course where as the American Secret Service would simply tackle such a protester - Al Queda in Iraq would have cut off his head and inserted the shoe in cavity in his neck where his head was.

I hope no one ever dares throw an "Air Jordon" at Obama. Not only would the response in the gallery be different....some folks who called the picture of a waffle box "racist" would no doubt be curious as to why an athletic shoe rather than a wing tip was thrown as this particular presdient
  • CPL
Why don't you post on your 1000 blogs that NO ONE READS and leave the grown people to have their fun, Non-Constructive Bullshytter?
  • Constructive_Feedback
CPL - just as I had figured.

Rather than respond with something of MATERIAL RELEVANCE to the point at hand - you instead post IRRELEVANCE.

And you have flunkies following closely behind your tail being hypnotized by your sphincter muscle that is underneath.
  • CPL
    Unconstructive Bullshyt:

Every time you attack me, I'm reporting your ass. Keep it up.
  • Justice58
    Ouch!
  • whiterosebuddy
Yeah, you right if we being serious...but I was having fun..enjoying the moment.
    Bush hasn't earned any respect.
  • whiterosebuddy
My son called to tell me to watch that loop on MSNBC, it was hilarious!!

But I gotta tell you, Bush had a great response...he said, all I can tell you is it was a size ten!!

Watching it though is priceless. Especially if you know how Muslims feel about shoes and their soles.

It was a most profane moment/

    Loved it!

Brother didn't just throw ONE shoe, he threw BOTH...hahahahah

    Priceless watching Bush duck..hahahahahaha!!!
  • Trumystique
I just searched and cant find it (shoe throwing ). Please help a sister without cable newschannels ...
  • Trumystique
    Ooops here it is http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/2822308...

Dude should play football or something with that arm! It wont be in its socket shortly but damn...
  • Miranda
OMG......but why did I just say the same thing to a friend? I told him that this guy had strength and accuracy like Warren Moon!
  • whiterosebuddy
    He threw TWO line drives!!!

    Football/baseball...don't matte...his aim was GOOD!!

    ahahahahaha
  • Admiral_Komack
If true, Bush had better be glad it wasn't a hand grenade.
  • CPL
Though there was an incident with a hand grenade the last time he was in Russia back in 2005:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/may/19/geo...

People were fed up with Bush THEN.
  • blksista
    No doubt.

The journalists around the shoe thrower, also a journalist, said that it took a lot of courage for him to do that. In other words, they felt what he felt.

That is the biggest insult a Muslim could throw at any one, including another Muslim.

How many millions of Iraqis dead? How many tortured, maimed, refugeed?

This was a big eff you to Bush.

You know that this feed went to Al Jazeera, too. That means it went out to the entire Muslim world. That part of the world must be fairly sizzling this afternoon.
  • whiterosebuddy
Yea, you just gotta know, that show throwing was equivalent to Tommy Smith in the Olympics thrusting his black fist to the sky as they sang the National Anthem.

You just gotta love the expression of revolt by the oppressed, even if we are American.

if you AA you can relate.
  • whiterosebuddy
oops that should be shoe not show
  • Trumystique
Yuo I think this is a watershed moment. And they way in which American forces/authorities treat this man will be critical
