Emil Jones may not have taken it. He is leaving the IL Senate Leadership because of health reasons and the man is in his 70s. This selection was to be a NO BRAINER. An appointment with a person who can be elected on his/her own in 2010. Now we are looking at a special election, and folks want it because Blago messed up the credibility of anyone getting appointed, even if it is Lt IL Gov Pat Quinn who selects someone.

If a special election, a republican has a good chance winning. The feeling out here is that folks are full of PRIDE white/black/latino in IL on Obama being elected and APPALLED at the selling of Obama's seat. That sentiment is toxic and it will favor the Republican.

I like JJJ. I do, but....

as Jill stated, reading that complaint, now with knowing that Jackson's brother already had a fundraiser for Blago with questionable fundraisers, my thing is how can he NOT KNOW.

It must be tough being named after your father who has done some great things and some highly questionable things.

And I will state this anyone's name that is on that Blago list for the senate seat, can forget it. Jarrett, though not named officially is Candidate #1. Once she approached Blago and picked up on his bullshit, she immediately and smartly removed her name from the list.

The Obama Campaign had an inkly what was going on, may not had evidence, but they had an inkly and Barack immediately put Jarrett in his admin.

Also, I am not surprised that JJJ name was not on the list Emanuel gave to Blago team for who the President Elect wanted to ascend to his seat, this is protocal. Folks must remember, JJJ can win Chicago and the south suburbs, but where I live in Lake County a questionable maybe, DeKalb probably not, Kane no, DuPage no. The issue is JJJ must win outside of Chicago and all the counties I just named are Chicago suburbs and he will have a problem.

JJJ is done at least for 10-12 years. And I will type this, he better come out of this scandal clean, if not he could lose his congressional seat. Black Folks are protective of Obama and this scandal, if JJJ is associated with it, will be the straw that broke the horse's back, for him.

You aren't wrong. He should have come out for Emil Jones to get his Senate seat, thus making it clear that this was to cap off a long and distinguished career.

And, that anyone who wanted to run in 2010, the time to begin was now. Jones would have been a slam dunk vote for the next 2 years, and anyone who wanted to run would be getting their stuff together.

Rikyrah,

I totally agree with your assessment. BUT, I do think that JJJ and Sandi can have at it for the Chicago mayoral race. They can and will be players if they set up their shots strategically. And, with a long look toward the mayoral race, they can actually build the kind of power base that they want and need to win.

Right now, JJJ is Chicago-centric and would have cost him for a statewide race. If he can burst through the South side bubble and build the key and necessary alliances throughout the city, he could do quite well.

Explain: if JJJ was being underhanded, then why was he being so public about wanting the senate seat? He was actively advocating on his own behalf. And as others have mentioned, he know Blago was being watched. ??? I would think that if you were up to no good, that you would keep your activities on the DL.
