I have many perspectives on Obama posted on my blog. One of them applies most directly to this issue of the half white/half black moniker. There are others on the site as well.

Ive always thought Afro American was a strp backwards and defined my race as Black by choice realizing that Black is foremost a political state of mind developed in response to white opression.Since then Ive broadened the Black State of MInd to be inclusive of all people who are aware of that consciousness that drives those people of all races to subjugate people to theit will by means of dividing us through categories of gender race nationality religion and socioeconmic status.

Fucking exactly. I doubt, if this were ANY other race, this would even come up. There is a certain amount of reverence and respect we have never (and may never) receive. We got people busy trying to convince us that Barack is so “different” on the grounds that his mommy was white. YET this is the same country, mind you, that won't recognize Sally's children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren/etc as descendants of JEFFERSON. Are they not bi/multi racial? Oh, my bad: they're black. It's all extremely convenient that now they decide the blackness of an individual like Barack is no longer authentic when in office of POTUS. I could go on and on, but I want Richardson called biracial as well. Let's make the playing field even.

Well young, I had two basic points:

1. We should let people identify how they want.

2. biracial black folks traditionally identify as black, and there's nothing strange about it. It also doesn't mean they have a "complex".

I mean you're right, race is a construction, but that's all the more reason not to force definitions on people.

Heres an article in the seattle times talking about Michelles Slave roots. Its an interesting take ill leave you guys to discuss it. Anyway Barack is what he says he is. He called himself a Mutt in a press conference but from the time he got out of college he yearned for the black community and everything that encompassed it. Baracks experience is parallel to my own. No he does not have ties to slavery but he has to work 6 times as hard to get half the respect. I mean why do you think they had to trumpet that shit about him being the son of a white mother from kansas and his grandfather was in the military? If he didnt he would be an outsider from the majority of americans. Its what Hillary tried and what McCain tried.
