Now "wha' ha' happened" was the following: I'm sitting in a aircraft, buckled up and listening to the announcements while taxiing down the run way.

The announcer said "WELCOME to Flight XXX from X to a stop in Las Vegas[my stop] and then onto Chicago."

Well, when I heard Chicago, I started thinking - - Mr. President-Elect Obama lives in Chicago!!

So I raised my hand and said, (Somewhat passionately) I'll volunteer to go to Chicago!! Pick me! Pick me!!

Then I thought, Oh! Wait!. . . . . . . . . He's NOT in Chicago! He's in Hawaii!

So, I said (rather excitedly) Hey Wait! Take this plane to Hawaiii! Pul-------eeeeease take this plane to Hawaiii!!!

Within minutes, some PEOPLE surrounded me - - -I think I saw a weapon???

SOOOOO, here are my questions:

1. "WHYCOME" I found myself in a "DIFFERENT PLACE???" [jail]

2. Who knows a good "bail bondsman??" I'm just axin'. . . . . .

P.S. I think that the charge is something about trying to "terroristically commandeer and divert an aircraft!!" ***shrug*** :>)

KAILUA, Hawaii — President-elect Barack Obama spent over an hour greeting service men and women as they ate Christmas dinner at the mess hall on a military base about ten minutes from the beachfront home where his family is vacationing over the holidays.

It was Obama’s first formal meet-and-greet with rank-and-file members of the military since winning the election. He thanked them for their service and wished them a Merry Christmas. Obama took his time shaking hands and making small talk with the diners, who represented seven Marine and Navy units.

“Good to see you man," Obama said to one.

"Thanks for your service," he said to another.

Wearing dark khaki slacks and a short-sleeve blue button-down shirt, Obama entered Anderson Hall on Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe Bay shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday.

Obama worked the left side of the room, where diners sat at about 25 tables with red or white table cloths, “Seasons Greetings” placemats and green napkins. They had already filled their plates at the buffet with traditional Christmas fare — turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn and, adding a splash of local flavor, pineapple.

Obama on Thursday visited Marine Corps Base Hawaii near his rented vacation home and briefly chatted with enlisted members who ate turkey, ham and roast beef. He didn't make formal remarks or speak to reporters during the stop, one of the few public sightings of the president-elect on what aides call a private family vacation.

"Hey," Obama said as he walked into the mess hall wearing a short-sleeved shirt and slacks. "Just wanted to say 'hi.'"

Obama lingered a few minutes at each table as the Marines and sailors and their families stood to greet their next commander in chief. At other tables, the visitors ate candied sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping, mashed potatoes and simmered corn and broccoli.

"What part of Indiana?" he asked one person. To another: "This is the East Coast table, huh?"

Obama and his family planned to spend their Christmas holiday mostly out of sight, an accomplishment given his two-year, high-profile marathon to win the presidency.

Obama, wife Michelle and their two young daughters opened presents earlier Thursday and planned their own dinner of turkey and ham, according to aides. They did not release any other details.

The Obamas arrived in Honolulu on Saturday with four aides, his Secret Service detail and a small group of journalists. Since then, he has been largely sequestered at the beachfront estate.

With less a month before Obama takes office on Jan. 20, he is taking every step possible to make sure this holiday is as private as possible _ something he bemoaned while walking to a driving range last Sunday.

"OK, guys," Obama said, recognizing the photographers snapping pictures. "Come on. ... How many shots do you need?"

That was one of only a handful of trips Obama and his motorcade have taken. He and Michelle Obama have visited Marine Corps Base Hawaii for daily morning workouts. Twice, he and friends have played a round of golf. He attended a private memorial service for his grandmother on Tuesday and scattered her ashes into the Pacific Ocean.

And that's been it.

While the Democratic president-elect vacations in his native Hawaii through the New Year, he and his aides have taken careful steps to minimize his profile. He has no public schedule while vacationing, although he remains involved in transition plans and has received intelligence briefings.

While Obama's aides have taken steps to keep the vacation low-profile, he hasn't been entirely successful. Photographers captured images of him scattering his grandmother's ashes from a rock ledge on Tuesday while the press corps waited in a bus. Another photographer captured the future first family _ including a shirtless Obama _ in the backyard.

The Secret Service has blocked the street where he is staying, citing security concerns. A few cars a day have rolled into the dead-end street, but they did not get past the checkpoint. And a few neighbors who tried to walk past the house on Christmas Day were rebuffed by agents.

One man left with an aide a Christmas card addressed to the Obama family. It featured a palm tree with the word "peace" written on it.

About nine years ago, [Pardo, the shooter] and a girlfriend had a child. As a 1-year-old, the boy fell into a pool, nearly drowning. As a result, the child was left physically handicapped. Although Pardo did not support his son financially, he claimed the boy as a dependent for seven years on his tax returns.

When Pardo's wife found out about it from a family member, she demanded he stop claiming his son as a dependent. The situation helped lead to the divorce, sources close to the family said.

Pardo and his ex-wife, Sylvia, met in 2004 through a colleague of Pardo's. Sources today said the 17-year-old son of that colleague died in the Christmas Eve shooting.

Pardo wooed Sylvia, and the two married in January 2006. Around that time, they moved into a home in Montrose to start their new life together with Sylvia's three children from a previous marriage and an Akita.

Their union lasted only two years. Sylvia moved out in January and were divorced the next month after she cited irreconcilable differences.

What happened to the wife?

Pardo's former wife and her parents, Joseph Ortega, 80, and Alicia Ortega, 70, were among the dead, sources said today. Authorities said the bodies found in the house were so badly burned that dental records would be needed to identify them. The Ortegas lived in a bucolic neighborhood -- their street lined with large homes with swimming pools, valued upward of half a million dollars.

A relative said today that two of Sylvia Pardo's brothers and their wives, the son of one of her brothers and one sister were killed. Her only sibling to survive was a sister, the female relative said.

The relative said Sylvia Pardo had been married three times and that her three children, Selina, Sal and Amanda, were at the party and survived.

Like clockwork, Pakistan is moving troops away from the Afghan border to the Indian border.

This is what the "terrorist" attack on Mumbai was supposed to precipitate. I said it before and I'll say it again: covert agencies are purposely setting the US up for another "terrorist" attack on American soil during the next administration.

Our sources say Brady, who is famous for his QB skills and running errands for Gisele, proposed on a private jet that took off from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and landed in Boston. There were four dozen white roses on board, as well as champagne.

Along with Brady and Gisele were her parents. We're told Brady was nervous before he popped the Q.

Before Mr. Obama can make government cool, however, he has to make it good.

The Obama administration, on the other hand, will find itself in a position very much like that facing the New Deal in the 1930s.

Like the New Deal, the incoming administration must greatly expand the role of government to rescue an ailing economy. But also like the New Deal, the Obama team faces political opponents who will seize on any signs of corruption or abuse — or invent them, if necessary — in an attempt to discredit the administration’s program.

F.D.R. managed to navigate these treacherous political waters safely, greatly improving government’s reputation even as he vastly expanded it.

First, the [Obama] administration of the economic recovery plan has to be squeaky clean. Purely economic considerations might suggest cutting a few corners in the interest of getting stimulus moving quickly, but the politics of the situation dictates great care in how money is spent. And enforcement is crucial: inspectors general have to be strong and independent, and whistle-blowers have to be rewarded, not punished as they were in the Bush years.

Second, the plan has to be really, truly pork-free. Vice President-elect Joseph Biden recently promised that the plan “will not become a Christmas tree”; the new administration needs to deliver on that promise.

Finally, the Obama administration and Democrats in general need to do everything they can to build an F.D.R.-like bond with the public. Never mind Mr. Obama’s current high standing in the polls based on public hopes that he’ll succeed. He needs a solid base of support that will remain even when things aren’t going well.

And I have to say that Democrats are off to a bad start on that front. The attempted coronation of Caroline Kennedy as senator plays right into 40 years of conservative propaganda denouncing “liberal elites.” And surely I wasn’t the only person who winced at reports about the luxurious beach house the Obamas have rented, not because there’s anything wrong with the first family-elect having a nice vacation, but because symbolism matters, and these weren’t the images we should be seeing when millions of Americans are terrified about their finances.

I agree with Krugman's main point that the Democrats Democrats must be clean as whistle(as if Obama didn't know that). But he ruined the piece by using Caroline Kennedy and Obama renting a 9 million dollar home as examples of the Democratic party are starting on the wrong foot. To me those examples are very silly. Obama is using his own money to rent the place. After campaigning for two years he deserves it.

Now, Obama did not have a black grandmomma, nor black momma to tell him this. But I am certain that MRS. Robinson told Michelle and that Michelle knows the deal.

While I do not think anything is wrong with this...folks who are melanin-challenged definitely have issues with stuff like this...to the point that they are writing it in articles and we have never seen such financial detail about ANY other President given that the Bushes and Reagans were Millionaires!! And we know they stayed at far more exclusive residences and NOT one DAMN word was printed about BUSH partying when KATRINA was drowning...flying to celebrate McCain's B-day!!

America ain't changed all that much...and for Krugman to bring it up...we KNOW what time it is!!\

Bitterness that a Black man and his Black friends who went on vacation with him, COULD AFFORD to rent those types of homes.

I'm tired of folks pretending that Obama went to some ' exotic' local for the hell of it.

He went to honor his grandmother and to visit the ONLY other living relative that has been there his WHOLE life - his sister Maya.

He did NOT come from a rich family.

His grandparents never could afford to BUY a house in Hawaii, so they rented an apartment. His grandmother died in the same apartment that they had rented for 40 years.

When it was just him, he went home and stayed in that apartment. When it was just him and Michelle, they did the same.

BUt, when they had children, they went to a local HOTEL.

That was doable.

UNTIL he ran for President. Could you imagine the logistics NIGHTMARE not only for the Secret Service, but for ANY hotel that would have the PRESIDENT-elect of the United States staying there for nearly TWO WEEKS?

Folks need to get over themselves.

He rented a home. That the Secret Service could secure.

They're so petty, it's unreal.

But, I'm going back to my original premise - they are offended that Barack Obama and his BLACK FRIENDS that he vacations with - CAN AFFORD THIS.

The thing is, Obama was the poorest of the group, until he sold his books.

So, this is all about Black folks having THE MEANS to do this.

The double standards NEVER end! White presidents throughout history have enjoyed much more wealth than the average American and they've been accorded nothing but admiration. But suddenly, now that we have an African American President, he's supposed to live like the "common man."

Obama is supposed to serve Pork N Beans and Sunny D at his Inaugeration. Didn't you know? See if Bush 1-2, Clinton, Reagan, etc. have lavish inaugerations it's A-OK but if Obama does it, OH NOEZ!!!

Kind of like when you're at work and Patty the White Lady or Brad the White Guy drive a Lexus and nobody blinks an eye but if Latoya pulls up in a Lexus, all the white coworkers gather 'round to ask her how SHE could afford THAT? lol

Yep, I heard Obama is only having 11 Inaugural balls, the Clintons had 14 but the BushII only had 8...cause you know he always had to be in bed by 10pm and eight balls was pushing it for him...he made them all and was in bed by MIDnight...waaaay pass his bed time and the word was he was not happy about that.

Interesting piece regarding Michelle Obama and the role of first lady:

Media reports have focused on her Ivy League pedigree and her distinguished career as a lawyer and hospital administrator. By giving up her paid position, the argument goes, she has relinquished the opportunity to be the role model in chief for working mothers. But this thinking underestimates the intricate role of first lady, which will call on all of the skills she has developed as a working professional.

Exactly how was Michelle going to be First Lady and criss cross back and forth to Chicago to continue working? Or was she supposed to just step in and get a job at one of the DC area hospitals?

Did they ask Laura Bush why she wasn't still teaching and being a librarian while simutaneously being First Lady?

Did they ask Hillary Clinton why wasn't she still working for the Rose Law Firm while at the same time being First Lady?

Why does MICHELLE have to work, be a mom AND be First Lady? Is this a holdover from the Old Days where Miss Anne got to sit back and chill but Hattie had to clean your house, take care of your kids, take care of HER kids AND clean her house, too?

I read this this morning. I thought it was an interesting notion to consider but creating a job description for a position that in theory changes over every 4 years would water it down to the point that it would be meaningless. Technically any woman can become first lady since she doesn't run or get elected.

What I WOULD like to see is some the concept of the paid role explored. But more so than anything I would like to see the first lady's role to be measured during the election process. For example, wouldn't it be interesting to have potential first ladies to articulate a platform or project they will seek to undertake? I'm tired of their fashion being compared and would rather have a substantive discussion of resumes and educational prowess discussed. And if you give them a salary of say 75K (which is NOTHING,) because the President's salary is barely anything at all for the work involved. If you get paid for a job, no matter the salary there is an expectation that something gets done... Money however isn't the issue. Its the commitment and capacity to get it done. Hillary Clinton tried to leverage her role as first lady as work experience, but it was work experience that she was not evaluated for because it was ad hoc. She did however get a free pass on the asserting it as experience and could do so since no one was paying attention to her daily action or inaction for that matter.

I have a lot of ideas I just posted (lol) brainstorming if you will. This op ed intrigued me.

I would not have interest in a political platform for any spouse. Only the candidate needs a platform. Nor, do I as a taxpayer have any desire to pay a spouse a salary. One elected candidate's salary is sufficient. As the spouse, you can do a lot or nothing at all, it is solely up to the spouse. But getting paid for whatever those choices are is out of the question. We are not electing spouses!!
