Miranda is right. There are many programs at the 1-AA level finding it hard to keep up. It's more than just football, at the Division I level you have to pay for and sponsor many more sports than if you were a 1-AAA (D-1 with NO football) or a Division II school.

Hell, compare my alma mater (UAB) to the facilities at the University of Alabama. Both play in 1A/FBS, but one program is in its 13th season in fielding a football team period, while the other has been rocking it out in the SEC for over 70 years (over 100 in football, overall). If there's that disparity there, you know there's going to be one with the FAMUs & Gramblings of the world.

I think many of the HBCUs are falling way behind in being athletically competitive in any other way than the level of the conference that they're in. In other words, they can keep up with other SWAC or MEAC teams, but outside of other HBCUs , it could get ugly.

Peruse the ESPN bottom line when an Alabama State or a Grambling faces off against another D-I school in basketball. They don't have to be a Duke or North Carolina or a Tennessee or a Memphis. They could be a Butler, a Bradley, or a Wofford, and you might see the HBCU get blasted. Same thing happens if the SWAC team happens to face off against a non-conference opponent in football, say like a Samford or a Western Carolina in football.

I wonder if the 'classics', as well attended as they can be, are actually putting money back into the coffers of the schools that play in them. I can look at football schedules and see HBCU teams that play a 12 game schedule, but only have like four true home games, with some away and several 'classics' at a neutral site. But home games are the only games where all of the ticket and concession sales come back to the university; they're also the only games that you can invite prospective recruits (per NCAA rules--'Bama State just found out what happens when you don't follow them).

Dare I say it, there might be some HBCU programs that might benefit from moving down to Divsion-II.

Yes, the Anthony case is a tragedy, anyway you look at it. I hope this doesn't sound too heartless, but I'm relieved in a way that the remains are Caylee's because otherwise there'd be two little girls we'd be worrying about.

I wanted to add that you are a doll baby, but I shouldn't get props for (as Chris Rock reminds us) doing what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm fine & having a much better life than my ex-husband who walked away from our kids because parenting them was "too hard".

One, I just want to acknowlege how great you are. Four kids are hard enough but on your own and in tight quarters. Well done. I hope you have good support around you because it is full on all the time.

Secondly, this child had no support from either mother or grandparents. The child ....I just think of her last moments and I get choked up... rest in peace, little one.

I think Casey's parents wanted to be grandparents and not necessarily raise their granddaughter.

It's evident the Casey did not want this child. I don't think had anything to do with mental illness and disability. This woman just did not want to be a mother. Period. Instead of during the right thing (in this case) leaving her with her parents, she took Caylee's life.

All I can do is shake my head and pray for that innocent baby who didn't ask to be born.

I recall that Casey wanted to have her adopted by a friend who wanted Caylee but her parents said Casey had to keep her to learn responsibility. There may be another factor in this. Casey said after 5 mins. with Caylee, she needed a vacation. I'm guessing that both may have been ADHD and Caylee very hyperactive. I'm ADHD, as are my four kids, one of whom is extremely hyperactive (raising them on my own in a two bedroom apt has been...fun). I know there are days when you just want it to stop. I am in no way excusing Casey, but untreated or ineffectively treated ADHD can lead to some major tragedies, especially inside families. People need help before it gets this bad.
