Blacks did – and still do – have a higher bar, true.

However, it is also true that many white performers of Miss Kitt's day were also true entertainers – they could sing, dance and act very well across various mediums – TV, film and the stage. It was standard. And they were not manufactured like they are today.

Nate sorry, but the criteria for TRUE entertainers is a bit high. Typically, black folks had to do ERRRRYthing just to get the job!! So, being able to do all that to acquire a role was a sign of deep racism. It was an uncommon talent, which is why there were so few who met the bar.

This is an incredible loss. There are almost no TRUE entertainers left–I mean folks that can sing, dance, and act in film, television, and on stage. And Eartha Kitt was every bit one special performer. I really can't think of a contemporary female of color who you could truly call a contemporary equal.
