Republicans spent much of the year portraying Barack Obama as a socialist and weak-kneed appeaser who would kowtow to America’s enemies.
Not anymore.
It’s been Republicans who’ve been heaping praise on Obama’s national security and economic teams — at times gushing more than even some Democrats. The GOP is finding little to criticize in Obama’s choices, defanged, in part, because their earlier charges of radicalism have been rendered inoperative by the individuals Obama has appointed.
Honeymoon aside, it’s not hard to see why Republicans are flummoxed: Obama has, so far, tapped a range of figures who are not only ideologically moderate but are serious and respected leaders in their field.
Further, Obama has installed people who make it politically tough for Republicans to find fault. In nearly every position so far, he’s named the individual who offered the least inviting target for the right. A few of them would have fit right into a McCain administration.
This extreme role-reversal for the GOP also speaks to that party’s beleaguered fortunes — where its own economic and foreign policy ideology has been sharply rejected by voters. Republicans also say they must tread lightly for now in dealing with Obama, or risk looking like sore losers to an election-weary public.
Much like his well-oiled campaign, Obama’s deft moves are drawing admiration from GOP pros — only now they can say it openly.
"Since election day Obama has been staying one move ahead on the chess board of politics,” observed Brian Jones, a Republican consultant and former aide to John McCain’s campaign. “Good policy is good politics. And there is a positive political by-product that comes with the selection of these individuals."

President-Elect Obama! :>) :>) LARGE and IN CHARGE! :>)
is reporting that Jeb Bush is considering a run for the Senate to replace the retiring Mel Martinez:
Two sources close to Jeb Bush, including one who has spoken to the former Florida governor within the past few hours, say he is seriously considering a run for Senate now that incumbent Republican Mel Martinez has retired.
"He is receiving a lot of encouragement from both in and out of the state," an longtime Bush adviser said tonight. "He is going to take his time and approach this very methodically." Bush will weigh, according to this adviser, how a run would impact his family, his business, and whether the Senate would be the best platform for the causes he'd advocate -- education, immigration, GOP solutions to health care and energy.
Bush did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment.
THERE IS MORE. YUK!!

FYI: Fox News 0-5 Obama's Press Conferences
AP, Reuters, ABC, NYT, Tribune and CBS were called on at the last press conference
Okay, with that kind of record, in the Major Leagues, a starting pitcher gets benched, and a batter gets yanked out of the lineup to go work on their swing.
Fox News needs to quit masquerading as a news organization and just promote itself as the denizens of the GOP, and the far rightest wing of the GOP, at that.

Republican Senator Opts Against Run for 2nd Term By DAMIEN CAVE Published: December 2, 2008
MIAMI — Senator Mel Martinez of Florida, one of the most prominent Hispanic leaders in the Republican Party, announced Tuesday that he would not seek a second term in 2010.
Might give the Democrats that 60th Seat they need in the Senate in two years. And Mel Martinez might be persuaded to caucus with the Democrats since he has nothing to lose. Wasn't he a Democrat that switched parties at one point?

Ebony has a cover with Obama out.
It says simply: Mr. President. I'm looking for it. if you can leave a link to a pic, I'd appreciate it.
rikyrah
THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU.
I LOVE IT.
There is a simpleness to it. Yet, a sophistication. An almost timeless quality to it.
THIS is a poster.
This is something to be framed and hung.
I love it 10x more than the Essence cover, which looked too ' slick'.
Once again, Ebony does what it has done best since the beginning- Making Black people look wonderful.
what the hell is Sandra Rose's problem? she STILL is dogging the President-elect and the future First Lady, while exulting thugs and hoochies.
spirit_55z
rikyrah, I stopped supscribing to Essence and Ebony years ago. I don't know Sandra Rose, but I feel you on the layout of that web page.
President -Elect Obama surrounded by pimps and Ho's. He was the only redeeming image on the entire page.
Miranda
Sandra Rose has true identity issues...she is very self-hating. I'm convinced that just like Michelle Malkin, she suffers from "The Bluest Eyes" syndrome.
freespiritbty
Goodness gracious Sandra is a h.a.m. She was the one who said that the Obama girls were 'acting too grown". She is in the "bitch please" file.
My question is, when are we going to start hearing about how Clinton, Napolitano and the rest of the women are supposed to act and who they should be reaching out to? I mean, we've already heard it for Mrs. Obama, Dr. Rice, and Ms. Rogers. Am I premature here or is there a double standard/bias?
Micheline
I don't think the post is telling how Rice should act. The post is actually mocking Bolton.
spirit_55z
Phucking A, it's a double standard! Where's Joan Walsh, Lynn Swine... .I mean Sweeny, Andrea( Mince Meat) Mitchell and fricking Emily Post?
Justice58
Phuck Andrea Mitchell & Joan Walsh!
Justice58
Am I premature here or is there a double standard/bias?
Yep....double standard! Women with black skin! Like Town stated, people like Cherie Blair have to tell them how to act!
Where is Cherie Blair with her advice for the white women? Sorry @ss witch!

UPDATE 12/2 at 9:07 PM EST: And the Associated Press just called the race for Chambliss...
spirit: I'm believin' that P-E Obama "called it" a few days/weeks ago. HE KNEW!! :>)
IMHO, that's one reason why he didn't go to Georgia. :>)
Micheline
I knew he was going to lose but not by 16 points! Watch you are going to see S, Karmi and Indie-ed coming here to talk about victory in a blood red state.
And we will be waiting and ready with six packs of whoop-ass and Troll-B-Gone. Anything they say cannot negate the fact they have to address a brotha as "Mr. President" for the next four years.
They can have their gloat session until they try to bring Obama into it - then it's GAME OVER for their troll asses. PERIOD.
Just pick up your can of whoop-ass and use as directed, okay?

TROLLS BEGONE!!!

US Vice President-elect Joe Biden (C) says hello to Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (R) as he and US President -elect Barack Obama (2nd L) arrive at the National Governors Association annual meeting at Congress Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, December 2, 2008.
AFP PHOTO/Jim WATSON (Photo credit should read JIM WATSON/AFP/Getty Images) Video of Vice Presiden-elect Joe Biden addresing Govenors today.
President-elect Barack Obama will announce his choice for Commerce Secretary tomorrow in Chicago, Democratic sources said. The nominee, as has been widely rumored, is Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM), who spent the day formalizing a transition plan in his state.
No other cabinet appointments will be announced this week.
Labor activist Mary Beth Maxwell has emerged as a serious candidate for Secretary of Labor, Democratic and transition offiicials confirm. The Wall Street Journal reported this morning that Maxwell, who'd be the first openly gay cabinet secretary, is being vetted for the job, along with Jennifer Granholm of Michigan and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas. Of the three, Sebelius has the inside track and the closest relationship with Obama. Sebelius has also been mentioned as a potential pick for Secretary of Education.
Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), one of the earliest members of Congress to back Obama, is the top candidate to be Secretary of the Interior, Democratic sources said. Other potential Interior picks include Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA).
For Education Secretary, Democrats say that Graham Spainer, the president of Penn State University, and Ray Mabus, the former governor of Mississippi, are said to be in the running. (If Joe Paterno gets a vote, then maybe it's Mabus.) Others include John Deasy, the superintendent of the Prince George's County public school system, Linda Darling Hammon, a well-regarded academic from Stanford and an Obama education policy adviser, and Ronnie Musgrove, another former Mississippi governor who lost his bid for Senate.
His own SPECIAL DAY!! :>) :>) That's NICE!! :>)

What happened to Kerry for , well, anything?
rikyrah
pjamma,
I think Kerry was told to think about his state. I don't mean to be glum, but I don't see Ted Kennedy being around for the 2010 elections, let alone 2012. If Kerry left, that would leave Massachusetts without any seniority whatsoever.
I keep thinking Ted Kennedy is going to beat this thing, but then you remind me that he will be 77 next year and probably needs to preserve his health, so that would be a good reason for Kerry to stick around because whoever replaces Ted would become the junior senator with no seniority for a few years.
I'm kinda hoping Ted, Jr. or Patrick will step in for their dad and keep the legacy he started going.
Pjamma, you're real forgiving to think about John Kerry for anything.
I keep remembering how he vowed to do a recount if something went down fishy in the 2004 election. He went skiing after it was over and basically mailed in a protest from the ski slopes in Switzerland, over the objections of HIS OWN RUNNING MATE.
I think he should angle for a more senior position in Senate Leadership. I kinda of like the idea of him challenging Harry Reid for the Majority Leader position, but that's me. LOL

Does that sista hold down a job? In an office, I mean?
I can't even type if my nails are that long. Once upon a blue moon when I was younger and was getting my "glam" on. I look back in horror when I see pictures of myself with my hands flashing three inch nails and think to myself "How the hell was I typing and doing my job with nails like that?"
LOL
Texas_Girl_in_LA
Wow....this is um...hhmmmmm, rikyrah
But you know...this may be extremely ghetto fab, but I really love how our community is so proud and is finding ways to be creative
MsKitty
As ghetto fab goes, the nails are good but only gets a 5 on the creativity scale. I'm holding my high marks for the soul that gets the gold plated teeth that spells Obama (LOL).
Texas_Girl_in_LA
oh snap!
I forgot about getting the grill engraved.
hehehe
rikyrah
I know what you mean..
on the one hand, you see this and go HELL NO..
on the other hand, you see this and go DAMN, that person is creative.
OK, I want to know which city this person lives in.....something that ultra-fabulous looks mighty Detroitish...or could be Miami. I've never personally seen it that fab in the A-T-L, it can get pretty tacky but this is a level I've only seen in Motown or South Florida.
