The house has been The South Side Jewish Day School (note the synagogue across the street just visible in one photo), a Lutheran Urban Ministries site and the HQ of the United Chinese Churches of Chicago. (And you thought Obama had a complex background!)

The PEOTUS is definitely one of us. He just told Tom Brokaw that he and Michelle plan to bring jazz musicians and have poetry readings in the White House. LMAO at the idea of a Love Jones set in the East Room.

The surprise pick represents the addition of yet another heavyweight to the Obama Cabinet. Photo: AP
CHICAGO — Retired Army Gen. Eric Shinseki will be named as Barack Obama's Secretary of Veterans' Affairs Sunday afternoon in Chicago.
The surprise pick adds yet another heavyweight to the Obama cabinet, and also takes a not-so-subtle slap at President Bush's original national security team.
Shinseki served as Chief of Staff of the Army and retired a four-star general in 2003. Like Obama a native of Hawaii, Shinseki served two combat tours in Vietnam, where he earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Shinseki, who is of Japanese ancestry, becomes the first Asian-American in the new Cabinet.
He rose to prominence—and become something of a hero to the anti-war left— after he clashed with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz personally and professionally, especially on the Iraq war.
Shortly before the end of his term as Chief of Staff in 2003, Shinseki told a congressional committee that post-war Iraq would require hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops. Both Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz publicly scoffed at the estimate— a rare public rebuff to one of the nation's most senior generals. When Shinseki retired, no senior civilians from the

In an interview to air tomorrow, Obama praised Shinseki's judgement on the war.
"He was right," Obama told NBC's Tom Brokaw in a "Meet the Press" interview taped here Saturday, excerpts of which were released tonight by the network.
Obama also cited his shared his Hawaiian roots with Shinseki.

New kind of chain mail: Got a package from a friend today. Inside was a paper chain, like kids make at the holidays. It was made of red, white and blue strips of paper. Each link has a quote written on it. The red links begin the chain and they contain stupid or untrue things said by George W. Bush. By January, the links are quoting Barack or other sources of hope and inspiration. The final link, the one for January 20th, says simply: "We are the ones we have been waiting for." Enclosed with the link-a-day chain was a card that said: "Celebrate Regime Change: Let this combination patriotic festoon/page-a-day calendar help you count down the end of an error."
Though not intended to be a holiday gift, exactly, this is going to be one of my favorite gifts received, ever.

That's RIGHT!!
WE are the one's we have been waitnig for!
That is the truest statement of the entire campaign...it was the MOST inspirational for me.

You can have whatEVER you want. You want it go it .
Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, mentioned as a potential veep and then as a likely secretary of labor, emailed Kansas reporters that she's taking herself out of the mix, the Kansas City Star reports.
Her choice leaves unclear whether Obama will pick a prominent labor secretary — Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm has also been mentioned — to speak for labor on the economic team, or a lower profile one whose job could be largely to reorient the Department of Labor.
Sebelius, like other governors, face a very tough few years running a cash-strapped state.
The Star writes:
“Given the extraordinary budget challenges facing our state, and my commitment to continuing the progress we’ve made in Kansas, I believe it is important to continue my service as governor of the great state of Kansas; a job that I love and have been honored to hold. The possibility of joining President-elect Obama’s team is exciting and compelling, but my service to the citizens who elected me is my top priority in these difficult times," [Sebelius said in her statement.]
“The good news for Kansans is that we will soon have a partner in the White House working with us as we face our unprecedented economic challenges.”
Sebelius' abrupt withdrawal even as the FBI reportedly was conducting background checks will surely fuel speculation that the governor did not get the Cabinet post she wanted or was rejected for the Cabinet altogether.
Hmmmmm?
President-Elect Obama! :>) Large and IN CHARGE! :>)
WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama and his aides are close to naming a slate of appointees to run the departments of Interior and Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency amid debate on whether to establish a White House-level post to coordinate policies on climate change and dependence on Middle East oil.
The wrangle over the creation of a high-level energy council or climate "czar" could determine which appointees will run the three agencies, which have the biggest impact on energy and climate policy.
It also reflects the bureaucratic challenge some of Mr. Obama's advisers see in managing the many federal agencies that have a hand in energy policy, including the Transportation Department, which sets vehicle fuel-economy standards; the Interior Department; which controls access to oil and natural gas on federal land; and the EPA, which regulates air quality.
THERE IS MORE.

Can we just say "Dolla Bill" Jefferson appears to have lost in New Orleans!! I can't believe I have a non-crook Rep.
Yes, you now have a vietnamese-american representative (R) and indian-american governor (R). Somebody is working some powerful roots down there in Louisiana.

hahaha, maybe it's due to our love of diversity and appreciation for other ethnic groups
now, if we could just get you all to love science, "oh what a beautiful world it would be."

Just to drop this in there General Eric Shensiki is going to be the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The first asian american 4 star general and first to be nominated to a top position. He was the guy who said that testified to the Senate that invading Iraq was wrong and would require hundreds of thousands of troops. Bush and crew told him to step down

I just listened to the PE Obama's YOUTUBE Saturday "chat" Why not include public transportation in that mix? Roads, bridges and public transportation.
If buses, trains, trolleys, etc. were timely, clean and convenient, I'm sure more folks in cities would ride to work. Save on parking, gas, help our environment. I also think, in an odd kind of way, riding public transit can bond a community. I have 'train buddies' -- I've found out about the latest book, a good sale, let someone know they dropped a glove. etc.
Anyway, other than that, I wish he was president right now. (I think GWBush wishes the same thing...)
whiterosebuddy
You know the awesomeness of Barack is that I am glued to the tube whenEVER he is on all channels.
I ask myself, how will I get anything done...when I stop and listen to the President.
I NEVER ever had this problem before. What is a colored woman to do?
When the President speaks..I listen ...for the first time ever in my life.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Amsterdam unveiled plans Saturday to close brothels, sex shops and marijuana cafes in its ancient city center as part of a major effort to drive organized crime out of the tourist haven.
The city is targeting businesses that "generate criminality," including gambling parlors, and the so-called "coffee shops" where marijuana is sold openly. Also targeted are peep shows, massage parlors and souvenir shops used by drug dealers for money-laundering. :: Not sure how many of you have traveled to Amsterdam, but I have and it was a culture shock for me. Being able to walk into a cafe and openly order space cakes or pot brownies for a easy high was crazy to me. Well....no more.
And as you walk down the way, you see women swinging behind the window in the Red Light District signalling for you to come in for a little somethin' somethin'....cab drivers asking if you wanted to be dropped off in front of a particular sex shop or brothel. I'm telling you it was crazy and it was all over the place. New Orleans has nothing on Amsterdam. Anyway...no more.
I bet they see a decline in tourism.
However, I was there to visit the Anne Frank House....learning about her struggle.
So...I don't care if you don't believe me!

Go to www.gravatar.com, sign up for an account and follow the directions on the site. Then everytime you post here, a pic/icon should show up next to your name.
It's fun, trust me. I like to change my icon periodically. I started w/ a picture of Samuel L. Jackson (which I may switch back to or the one I have of Jackee') and now my icon is the hot mess of a picture rikyrah posted a couple weeks ago w/ P-E Obama swimming w/ unicorns. LMAO. You can do it GreenLadyHere. :) You too rikyrah. :)

You may have to clear your cache. This is where it gets tricky for me, b/c I'm not much of a techie. Here's what I found at the gravatar.com website:
Basically your computer (in an attempt to make things faster for you) keeps copies of things (your avatar image, for example) on your computer, and the next time you request one of those things instead of getting it from the internet it gets that local saved copy. in this case you don’t want the saved copy, you want the new one from the internet. Thats what clearing your cache does... it deletes all the local copies of things that your browser keeps around.
For what it's worth, I can see your icon in the sidebar where new comments are shown, but I don't see them on the board. I hope this helps. :)
