rikyrah: Speaking of the "ENERGIZER BUNNY PHENOMENON!!"
The intense scrutiny of "voter intent" resumed this morning by a five-member board charged with directing Minnesota's recount in the U.S. Senate race between incumbent Republican Norm Coleman and Democratic rival Al Franken, and the first rush of ballot rulings has unofficially put the challenger in the lead.
On Thursday, the State Canvassing Board reviewed Coleman's challenges of hundreds of Election Day ballots, and the day's work saw the unofficial margin between the candidates dwindle to within a handful of votes.
As the board, headed by Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, took up and rejected more Coleman challenges today, Franken pulled ahead in the opening minutes.
...
Franken's move to the lead was no real surprise, given that the vast majority of ballot challenges typically fail. On the previous two days, when the board examined challenges from Franken, most were rejected and Coleman gained.
On Thursday, the AP gave Norm Coleman a mere two-vote lead. Projections suggest Franken will win, but the race will most likely not be decided until next year. CNN reports that Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) is "quietly prepping for the possibility of a temporary Senate appointment, given the increasing likelihood the nation's lone unresolved Senate contest might not officially come to a close before Congress convenes again next month."
I'm getting physically ill watching this...Tony Romo is OVERRATED!!

Miranda, welcome back. Great feedback, commentary & TRUTH on the discrimination/Prop 8 dialouge!
I appreciate it!
Miranda
My pleasure....after reading some of the insane comments at dailykos and Taylor Marsh, I'm convinced the majority of the rhetoric is not about Rick Warren at all.....Rick Warren is the excuse for what its really about!
whiterosebuddy
Well Miranda..get ready for some more. BTW..you definitely broke it down on Prop8/civilrights issue.Wonderful discourse to read as well.
Now, here is the next issue they are going to blow up. Mark my words. I am beginning to believe that the GLBT community wants to politically compromise the Obama administration from the outset with their controversial and divisive issues, just like they hamstrung the Clinton adminstration right out the gate with 'don'taskdon't tell' WJC made a huge mistake in tackling that early on, he pissed off the military and Congress..he caught hell for that and they NEVER let up. Newt Gingrich turned the Congress to majority GOP from that moment on. Gay issues are TOXIC.
First we had Warren and next we will have William White.
I disagree with this. The Clinton's messed up with the issue of gays in the military, just like Queen Hillary messages up health care, and DADT was a sweep it under the rug compromise. Gay people didn't ask the Clinton's to tackle such a divisive issue right out of the gate.
Also, let's not lump ALL gay people any more than we would lump all black people, or all women in one group. Plenty of gays/lesbians etc are not blowing up over Rick Warren.
rikyrah
I won't say you're wrong.

rikyrah: DAY -31 On His "JOURNEY TO JANUARY!"
1. WORD(s) of the DAY: ONE LAST TASK; TAKING A BRIEF RESPITE
HONOLULU – President-elect Barack Obama returns to his home state of Hawaii on Saturday for his last family vacation before taking office next month, savoring the respite in an oceanfront estate in one of Oahu’s most exclusive neighborhoods.
Obama, his wife Michelle, and their two young daughters, Malia and Sasha, will spend the holidays with a small group of close friends at a cluster of privately-owned beachfront mansions on Oahu, the island where the president-elect was born and raised by his grandparents.
Obama has no public events scheduled over the next 12 days. But he will attend a memorial service for his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who died just before her grandson was elected the nation’s first black president.
Obama was last in Hawaii in October for an emotional 22-hour trip to visit Dunham, who died two days before the November election at the age of 86. In a private ceremony, the president-elect will pay tribute to the woman he affectionately called “Toot” and whom he has credited with being a steady, constant influence in his life and the cornerstone of his family.
Dunham had lived in Oahu in the same apartment where she and her husband raised Obama. Obama’s half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, is a school teacher in Honolulu, where she lives with her family.
The president-elect might not escape work entirely. Hawaii’s Republican Gov. Linda Lingle has invited Obama to meet with her while he is here, according to news reports. Lingle also said she hopes to meet with Obama’s senior adviser, Valerie Jarrett, who is among the handful of friends who will be on the trip.
But mostly the trip will be a time for the president-elect to recharge before moving to Washington, D.C., to face an economic recession, a growing deficit and two wars.
Hawaii has served as a tropical retreat for Obama during his breakneck rise from first-term senator to commander in chief. In his memoir Dreams from My Father, Obama wrote, “Even now, I can retrace the first steps I took as a child and be stunned by the beauty of the islands.”
A Hawaii vacation over Christmas and New Year’s Eve has become a tradition for the Obamas and the families of three of their closest friends, Martin Nesbitt and his wife, Anita Blanchard; Eric Whitaker, and Jarrett. Obama contemplated a run for the presidency in Oahu over the holidays in 2006, telling reporters at the time that he would reveal his decision after he returned.
More recently, Obama took a break from the campaign during a trip to Hawaii in August. The Obamas and 17 friends spent about a week in Oahu before Obama accepted his party’s nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
Obama’s daughters – 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha – will have plenty to look forward to in escaping the frigid Chicago temperatures. Plus, a few days after the vacation, they’ll start their new private school in Washington, Sidwell Friends School.
Obama said last month at a news conference that the girls were busy writing their Christmas lists.
Obama’s transition team has been tight-lipped about the Christmas getaway, declining to offer details about where Obama would stay, what he would do or how he plans to celebrate the holidays.
The Associated Press reported earlier this month that the Obamas and their friends will be staying in three multi-million dollar mansions in Kailua, which has been rated among the top beaches in the world. Each private home wraps around a lagoon-style swimming pool, with palm trees, grassy lawns and retractable glass walls, the AP reported.
When Obama visited Hawaii in August, he stayed at an $8 million, 12,000-square-foot oceanfront vacation home owned by a Democratic contributor who, along with her husband, has given more than $62,000 to the Democratic party and its presidential candidates in the past eight years.
Obama, however, had rented the house through an agency and didn’t personally know the contributor, Jill Tate Higgins, the general partner of Lakeside Enterprises, a Burbank, Calif., private family investment company listed in property tax records as the owner. That house, too, was in Kailua, though it was unclear if Obama is staying in the same home on this trip.
The Obamas are also keeping the press at a distance, arranging for reporters to stay across the island on Waikiki Beach.
And if his schedule is any clue, Obama will have a relatively low-key New Year’s Eve. He leaves the following day.
CHICAGO – Seeking to draw a distinction with President George W. Bush, Barack Obama named his top science and technology advisers Saturday and pledged to “once again put science at the top of our agenda.”
The president-elect campaigned on a promise of treating science differently than Bush, whose administration was criticized by scientists as ignoring research and distorting facts suit its own ends.
“Today, more than ever before, science holds the key to our survival as a planet and our security and prosperity as a nation,” Obama said in his radio address. “It’s time we once again put science at the top of our agenda and worked to restore America’s place as the world leader in science and technology.”
Obama said history has shown that the greatest scientific discoveries – from landing on the moon to inventing the Internet – didn’t happen without support from the government and its leaders.
Taking a veiled jab at Bush, Obama said the scientific process is about evidence and facts that “are never twisted or obscured by politics or ideology.”
“It’s about listening to what our scientists have to say, even when it’s inconvenient – especially when it’s inconvenient,” Obama said. “Because the highest purpose of science is the search for knowledge, truth and a greater understanding of the world around us. That will be my goal as president of the United States – and I could not have a better team to guide me in this work.”
He announced Dr. John Holdren, a Harvard University professor, as assistant to the president for science and technology and director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Jane Lubchenco, an environmental scientist and marine ecologist at Oregon State University, is Obama’s choice for administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Obama also named co-chairs of the Council of Advisers on Science and Technology: Harold Varmus, a Nobel Prize winner, and Eric Lander, founding director of the Broad Institute at MIT and Harvard.
Chater plane, eh? Does that money come from the transistion campaign funds for the PE?
I have never seen an article like this about the Bushes where they describe the value of the residents they vacation in. Wonder why that is? Obama rents a home from someone he doesn't know but the article tells us first they are a big contributor so as to infer he is getting perks?
This was a very snide article.

No problem GLH...my commentary was not directed at you. You are providing a wonderful service by being kind enough to post all this and I really appreciate your efforts, time and energy to make the site interesting and enjoyable.
My point was that the journalists have never written these type of detailed monetary remarks about any other President that I can recall...the MEDIA COVERAGE of Obama is snide and just hateful..like he is not suppose to have all the accoutrements that go along with the stature of the office.
Next they are going to be talking about the cost of the horn that plays 'his song' everytime he enters a room.
We have never been told what that 'perk' cost..but I bet we about to find out how much it costs to have someone on site each and every time the President enters a room and they play Hail to the Chief.
Town
Well, no, because he, Michelle and the girls are supposed to take the Greyhound bus to Myrtle Beach. How dare Obama go to Hawaii, the state he was born in and stay at a multi-million dollar residence! We all know black people don't have the money to stay at any better than the Ocean Winds Motel on Pacific Avenue so the fact that he's staying in that nice a place is suspect and shady, at best.
The Archie Bunker Lunchbucket crowd doesn't give a crap whether Obama goes to Hawaii until somebody points out how unfair and shady it is that he's going. Archie Bunker doesn't have a problem with Obama going to Hawaii; Archie Bunker is doing him. The Cokie Roberts and Chris Matthews have a problem with Obama going to Hawaii because he's out of his "natural" element and in THEIRS.
I think it's hilarious that the man can't even go back to his home state where he was born and raised without it causing a problem. Billary can hang out in the Cayman Islands and nobody says a peep. Errybody else can jet off to Europe or Asia and nobody would say a word. Obama goes back to his home state -- OH NOEZ!!!!

As usual, you're on point, Town.

President of the Planet of the Stupid People Opposes Caroline Kennedy Posted by Al Giordano - December 20, 2008 at 12:39 pm

COINCIDENCE?
Mike Connell -- Key Figure in OH Voter Fraud and WH Email Scandals, Dies in Plane Crash
Mike Connell, Karl Rove's IT guru--who was compelled six weeks ago to testify in an Ohio vote-tampering case--was killed late Friday night when his plane crashed into the garage of an empty house. Ohio's Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner had requested that Attorney General Mukasey put Connell and under Federal protection.
Per Cybrinth CEO Stephen Spoonamore, Connell was also considered "vital to uncovering the truth" about the missing White House emails considered a critical link to the Justice Department and White House's involvement in the firings of nine US attorneys. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lisa-derrick/mike...
whiterosebuddy
This sounds way to coincidental. The GOP is corrupt and he had started singing like a canary. This has all the same suspicions as Ron Brown being killed as well as Wellstone...all in 'plane crashes'
See this photograph? (see link) It's of New York political leader Basil Paterson and his family, who has been: State Senator, Deputy Mayor, candidate for Lieutenant Governor and the first African-American Secretary of State in New York. He's a living legend in New York politics.
And see the kid with the afro on your right? That's his son, David Paterson, now Governor of New York, who will fill a US Senate vacancy in January.
Some folks seem to be forgetting that this will be a "primary-of-one." The state Constitution instructs that the Governor appoint to fill any empty US Senate seat until the next regularly scheduled election.
David Paterson has had to suffer the slings and arrows and jealousies of those who said he would never have risen through the ranks of Big Apple politics (first as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens, then on the staff of Manhattan Borough President - and close friend of his dad - David Dinkins, then filling his father's old State Senate seat, then tapped as Eliot Spitzer's running mate and finally filling his vacancy to become governor) if not for the family name and his legendary father's influence.
Of course, Governor Paterson knows the truth about himself, and is well familiar with the sniping of those who say he didn't deserve to rise (or wouldn't have risen if his name hadn't been "Paterson").
My guess is that every time he reads and hears some pundit or blogger or politician railing against an appointment of Caroline Kennedy to the Senate based on her name and family and the suggestion that she's not qualified, calling her a nail-filing princess and comparing her to Sarah Palin and all the other cheap shots taken in the past week, an enormous well of empathy and commonality is stirred.
Ha ha. They fell for it, hook, line and sinker, while forgetting the rules of this process: that only one person gets to decide.
They broke a cardinal rule of community organizing: they should have studied the target audience first.
There may be other arguments that could work on Paterson to pick someone else, but they've been drowned out by the shrill and unfair critiques that he's long heard against him now applied just as spitefully to Caroline Kennedy!
Checkmate.
(Did I say "ha ha"?)
rikyrah
I thought Al was on point with this.
T.
Great news for Caroline Kennedy!
T.
Good news for Caroline Kennedy! Governor Patterson, please appoint her so that I can see people-like-this-lady's head explode. Please.
I still think the worst is Lady Lynn Forester De Rothschild. Yes that's her real name. This is the woman who married into a centuries old banking dynasty and then denounces Obama as elitist.
Damn, this election really was right out of the twilight zone.

Wow, Lilly...I had not seen this. Harriet was a real dooozy!! The funniest part of it was that Hillary had lost the race 3 months ago by the time she went on this rant in May of 2008 Hillary was beat in Feb after Obama won 11 consecutive primaries.
Women like Harriet were so deluded and they were so bitterly divisive on the issue of race. Unbelievably hostile and just spewing anger and vitriol.
Miranda
Oh please....Gov Patterson...I wanna see her head explode too.
carolinagirl
Good evening JJPers. I had to go play w/ my 2 year old daughter and we took a nap together, so I missed out on all the debate in the last thread. :-(
Oh well, I guess I could start something else right? B/c Rick Warren is just tired and I'm soooooooo over it. Okay, what about......This notion of kool-aid drinkers. I've had this label thrown at me by people I consider "perpetual dissenters". These are the people who try to lift themselves up by saying things about P-E Obama (policy, personality, or random crap like he's not really black), but then if you respond to it, you're considered a kool-aid drinker. Why is that?
Do they have this thing where when he does mess up, they can come back and type "I told you so!!" I'm just curious. Are perpetual dissenters the same thing as trolls? I don't think they are. A troll is someone like Karmi. He/she's my favorite. LOL. :-p Any thoughts?
Lilytiger
Re: Kool Ade calling--They have no other argument.
Trolls actually want to engage, dissenters are just that. Dissent is good, but have a logical reason, is all I ask.
Miranda
I really don't make a distinction between perpetual dissenters and trolls...they're pretty much fruit from the same tree in my eyes.
Lilytiger
Uh Oh.
Caroline Kennedy is for gay marriage. Did she just trump Hillary?
Cosign. I think they don't want competition for the queen, plus she's an outright pal of the future POTUS.
Monie
And I think that is what is really driving so many against her....because Caroline IS an outright pal of Obama.
She broke away from her usual silence regarding candidates and came out resoundingly supporting Obama while everyone else from New York stayed loyal to HRC.
spirit_55z
I took a trip to Salon.com to see what Joan Walsh is up to.
Saturday December 20, 2008 06:58 EST Is Caroline Kennedy pro-choice?
Caroline Kennedy's claim on Hillary Clinton's soon to be vacant Senate seat took a couple of hits on Friday.
The Associated Press revealed that Kennedy hasn't voted in at least six major elections in the last 20 years, including the 1994 election for the seat she wants to claim. And on "Hardball" this afternoon, Kerry Kennedy told Chris Matthews she didn't know whether or not her cousin is pro-choice; she said they'd never talked about it.
I respect Kerry Kennedy and her loyalty to her cousin, but her answer underscored all the reasons why Kennedy's sudden pursuit of the Clinton Senate seat feels so off. ( patronizing , condescending C%$T!)
This very private person hasn't left much of a public footprint. I applaud her raising $70 million for New York's public schools, but we know very little else about her political views or involvements.
The idea that she'd make Gov. David Paterson's short list for the Senate appointment without any public statement on the divisive but crucial issue of abortion is problematic.
(JW's arms are just to worn out and tired from carryin all dem water pails for Billary)
Like I said, this ain't nuthin' but Clintonite Bitterness.
It's time to completely eliminate the Clinton faction of the party. They gotz ta go!
spirit_55z
Sepia, yes, I know, and it is sooooo UNATTRACTIVE!!!
Lisa M
I saw that. When I thought about it, I have only talked to my sister about the issue of abortion. I have never brought this up with my aunts or uncles or any of my cousins. I just figured they were pro-choice but I'd have to say I don't know for sure because the issue never came up with them. With friends, yeah, but not with family other than my sister.
Monie
But you know what else is funny. Pro-choice is THE issue that they want to argue against Caroline...I mean really?!
These same critics had no problem with the previously secret donor list to the Clinton Foundation while HRC was running for President. What about the crucial issue of who was on that list---and how the donors may have been possibly been a conflict of interest if Hillary had become President.
It is only now that Obama has won the election and HRC has been designated SoS-elect, do we know some of the names on that list---which includes the Saudi government amongst others.
Some of these so-called progressives trip me the hell out with their selective nitpicking and loyalty to Billary and others.
Ya know...she supported and campaigned for Barack Obama.....every single relative she has that publicly endorsed someone, endorsed a Democrat..her damn last name is Kennedy...yep....she could be a right wing conservative for sure!!
Lisa M
LOL
spirit_55z
Miranda, I really want to see these mofo heads explode!
LOL!
Miranda
Now these idiots are just reaching for ANYTHING....they are just grasping at thin AIR. The new memo is "lets pretend like we don't know where Caroline Kennedy stands on the issues of the day".....yeah....THAT'LL FLY
spirit_55z
True dat. OMG, Caroline's pallng around with President-Elect Obama & PEO's palling around wih Rick Warren!!!!!
