Ugh. Rich Warren is now Obama's Booker T. Washington.

Here's another Rick Warren/Booker T. Washington Comparison, this one by DeWayne Hickman in USA Today.

"Just as Roosevelt used Washington to keep blacks from deserting the Republican Party, Barack Obama's effort to befriend Rick Warren could prevent evangelicals from massing in opposition to his presidency."

Booker T. Washington used his personal political influence with Roosevelt to strengthen the Republican Party's committent to equal rights and full suffage for African Americans. Although the results weren't great, he was much more than the Post-Reconstruction Uncle Tom that these people describe.

I agree. Booker T gets a bad rap, and remember this, his legacy to Black folks still remains. The generations of Black folks who have been able to find their own ' American Dream' because of Tuskegee. I really do think folks should take a trip down to Alabama and SEE Tuskegee. See his legacy to a community that he truly loved.

He does get a bad rap. I've always supported Booker T's belief in Black people owning the means of production and being self sufficient. That part of his message gets lost while people focus on the "wait our turn" premise that he promoted as well.

I'm glad to see at least one person of color in the LGBT Community is willing to shine a lot on their hypocrisy...

When Gay Pride committees whereas the board is predominately White with no minority BOARD representation or some minorities can be selected on committees who gives ideas for the celebration where all LGBT's of all races can be properly identified during PRIDE. And then we will no longer have Black, Latino, Asian, or Native American Pride celebrations. When that happens.

When WHITE, BLACK, LATINO, ASIAN, NATIVE AMERICANS can look at each other and understand each other…. Interesting article. I think, though, that the writer is making some parallels to Obama and Washington, not Warren and Washington.

The central premise is that Roosevelt used Booker T. Washington out of political expediency like Obama is allegedly using Warren. Moreover, it likens the objectives of Booker T Washington in seeking the ear of the president with those of Warren. The writer sloppily and inappropriately uses the term "accomodationist" as the link between Washington and Warren. Here a quote that especially bothers me.

But there are stark differences between Warren and Washington as well. The civil actions that had whites so terrified in 1895 were strikes, demonstrations and protests– the sorts of things the gay community is engaging in today.

Civil actions that whites were so terrified of in 1895? Blacks were terrified for there lives! This is an intentional misreading of history. The entire article is illogical and both poorly written and reasoned. I posted it as another example of the tendency to minimize and distort African American history to make a point about gay equality (which I am all for).

On rereading this conflated essay, I will admit, that not only were there strikes and protests, but bombings and attempts on the lives of major industrialists during that time. McKinley was assasinated in 1901 by an anarchist. Nouveau riche, middle-class people, the rich, supporters of the status quo--these were the ones who were threatened by these events.

But these were an outgrowth of the labor movement, not the fight for full citizenship, which at that time was segregated against newly emancipated blacks and other people of color. The Populists, the Grange, the cigarmakers' union, all were mostly segregated movements and organizations that had little, if any, time or money for black political suffrage, if not the rich and the middle-class. Moreover, the Populists and the Grange, being agrarian-based, also had an appeal for Southern farmers who were more often than not involved or sympathetic with the Klan.

Weird and illogical premise is right.

Yeah that quote you excerpted bothered me a lot too as did "The evangelical community is far more extreme in its views." Oh please. And I also noticed the term "accomodationist" ... it's sloppy about something so basic (and easily Googlable) that it rises to the level of disrespect.

J.A. Rogers had a list, too. The Diversity, Inc. one and J.A. Rogers' is almost the same. Rogers wrote a little booklet which is still sold on Amazon.com.

I can believe almost all of the alternative history. For Lincoln, the Melungeon people claim him; he's also a relative of the actor Tom Hanks through his mother, Nancy Hanks. The Andrew Jackson claim is plausible, because there were a lot of Scots and Irish who were transported to the islands for debt or rebellion, and they breeded with blacks both slave and free. Jefferson did not like his mother; she leaned on him heavily after his father's death when he was a teenager; but the pattern was set for him to destroy his wife's things as well when she died. Harding I could believe, but Coolidge?

Some of this stuff was dug up by political operatives at the time to sow doubt in voters, and some of it is based on fact, some not.

J.A. Rogers' books are still in print; however, his research may need updating. So don't take it as gospel. He was working between the Twenties and the Sixties. I still think of him as a great self-taught pioneer in setting the historical record straight..

I forgot to add that J. A. Rogers also hinted at President Dwight Eisenhower's black ancestry as well at the conclusion of his little booklet about the five black presidents, but he refused to put himself out there for a lawsuit, since Eisenhower was still around at that time.

It was only until the Spanish American War that the U.S. took over the last Spanish island colonies: Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines and Guam.

They are all wearing Hawaiian shirts or button downs with khaki pants to try and "blend in", but they all wear sunglasses, have earpieces, and a look on their faces that says "I will break your mother effing SPINE." They aren't exactly hard to pick out!

I love that 82% approval rating, because it just shows how totally irrelevant the medial flacks are these days. No one is listening to them.

It was like those snap polls done after the debates, where you'd have the pundits bloviating about how Obama hadn't been aggressive enough, or McCain had shown "a real grasp of the issues", and then they'd have to talk about the snap poll which showed that a majority of Americans thought Obama had cleaned up.

President-elect Barack Obama arrived at Sea Life Park, a marine amusement
park in Waimanalo, about 12:10 p.m. He is apparently inside the park with
daughters Malia and Sasha. He left their Kailua vacation home without the
protective press pool.

Your pool arrived at the park about 1:10 p.m. and are holding outside the
park to await instructions on whether we will have access to the Obamas.

Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt issued the following statement to your pool:
"With no further scheduled events for the day, a lid was called until
further notice. The President-elect decided to take the girls to a water
park and we assembled the pool as quickly as possible."

The park is nestled along the shoreline in the sparsely populated and
scenic Waimanalo area, with soaring volcanic mountains nearby.

For the first time on his Hawaii vacation, it appears Obama gave the press pool that follows him the slip. From the Obama press pool report:

President-elect Barack Obama left his vacation home with daughters Malia
and Sasha about 11:45 a.m. His motorcade left without the pool, the first

by Secret Service. Pool will attempt to meet up with the Obamas shortly.

The Obamas are apparently at Sea Life Park, a marine amusement park near

I also know that while some people enjoyed seeing Obama "topless," I thought it was a bit of an invasion of his privacy. Yeah, he is our president, he is attractive(but not exactly my speed), but I think he also asked the photographers to back up a bit.

I think we oughta measure how far we are going to go with helping to abet the press' shenanigans, or else it's going to be the equivalent of the feeding frenzy around the late Princess of Wales. Yeah, there are a few differences, particularly that he's male and she was female. But you see where I am going with this....right?

The exact date of the baby's birth has been a subject of much speculation, ever since rumors surfaced in August that Bristol was the secret mother of Trig Palin, her little brother. The McCain campaign released information about Bristol's pregnancy that would seem to rule out any possibility that she could have mothered Trig - but the biological facts will settle the case. Bristol Palin's Future Mother-In-Law's Drug Arrest: Trooper Says Election Day


WASILLA, Alaska -- The mother of Bristol Palin's boyfriend sent text messages discussing drug transactions less than a month after the young woman's mother, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, was nominated as the Republican vice presidential candidate, according to court documents filed this week.

An affidavit from an Alaska state trooper, filed Monday, states that Sherry L. Johnston referred in her messages to two police informants to "coffee" as a code for the drug OxyContin.

Johnston, 42, was arrested on felony drug charges last week after state troopers served a search warrant at her Wasilla home. She allegedly sold OxyContin tablets to the informants on three occasions this fall, the affidavit states. Police said two of the meetings were recorded by a hidden camera and a microphone.

Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, 18. Sarah Palin announced in September that her daughter Bristol, also 18, was pregnant and that Johnston was the father. Their child was due to be born Dec. 18, her grandfather Chuck Heath told the Anchorage Daily News recently.

Authorities say the case against Sherry Johnston began in the second week of September, when drug investigators intercepted a package containing 179 OxyContin pills. That led to the arrest of the suspects, who agreed to be informants.

According to the affidavit, Johnston sent a text message to one informant Oct. 1, writing: "Hey, my phones are tapped and reporters and god knows who else is always following me and the family so no privacy. I will let u no when I can go for cof."

The trooper's affidavit indicates that Sarah Palin's candidacy factored into the investigation, with state officials delaying execution of a search warrant until this month, when Johnston was "no longer under the protection or surveillance of the Secret Service."

New PETA Game Targets Sarah Palin

As we've found out recently, animal rights group PETA has increasingly taken to spreading its message though the use of video game parodies.

Last month, for example, PETA garnered major attention with Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals, a Flash offering parodying Majesco's light-hearted kitchen game series.

More recently, PETA launched Holiday Snowball Fight. The online game begins by having players target fur-wearers like Madonna and designer Donna Karan, and ends with Sarah Palin as the focus of PETA's ire. Palin, of course, is an avid hunter. The 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee has been criticized by some for taking part in the practice of shooting wolves from airplanes. :>) :>) :>)
